I actually picked up my car this past Saturday. July 2021 build and can confirm.
I agree. I remember Bjorn doing all the testing and they do work. Someone is in need of it I'm sure.just cool name, not much practical use.. More expenditure on expensive filters..
Interesting that it's not actuated when the HVAC is in 'auto' mode.... Which I guess means it's an add-on the the regular filtration system.... Which I find to be very good.I actually picked up my car this past Saturday. July 2021 build and can confirm.
But you got the heated steering wheel, updated console, auto-dimming outside mirrors, double-paned front door glass, flash drive in the glovebox....This is pretty upsetting, I took delivery of my Y in late May and it came without the lumbar support for the passenger. Now this.. You buy a car and a moth later it becomes “obsolete”. When I bought my M3 back in 2019, a month later Tesla added speakers to the car.
I forgot all the updates that the Y has had over the months...heated steering wheel, updated console, auto-dimming outside mirrors, double-paned front door glass, flash drive in the glovebox....
I know this would be an added expense, but seems likely they might sell a retrofit for Model Y since I see that as an option in the Tesla store for Model S and X. It's something I would consider.
This won’t be able to be retrofitted to existing cars. Per the link the whole location of the filter had moved which means a change to the aircon ductwork as well.

Seems like good news for those who want the retrofit: Tesla Model Y HEPA filter retrofit coming soon to enable Bioweapon Defense Mode for existing ownersSame would definitely pay for this upgrade... hope they do it and didn't have to drastically change the frunk to accommodate new hepa filter where it would not be possible for us.
Mine is 225xxxWhat's the vin range on your Y with the new bioweapon defense mode?
That’s good to know. Curious to how much it will cost. My VIN is 203XXX and built 6/2021. Maybe I’ll wait to get it before spring allergy season. I’d pay $200 for it. I’m betting it will be $500-700 though.Seems like good news for those who want the retrofit: Tesla Model Y HEPA filter retrofit coming soon to enable Bioweapon Defense Mode for existing owners
The HEPA upgrade for the S and X is $500. Assume it’d be the same for the Y.That’s good to know. Curious to how much it will cost. My VIN is 203XXX and built 6/2021. Maybe I’ll wait to get it before spring allergy season. I’d pay $200 for it. I’m betting it will be $500-700 though.
A little on the high side for me. But on the other hand, it adds a cover/filter for the giant air intake hole. The HEPA upgrade for the S and X is $500. Assume it’d be the same for the Y.
