Bertha Benz Challenge Galaride (125 years celebration Bertha Benz ride, 1888-2013) with start directly from the IAA Frankfurt, gala dinner, Hockenheimring etc. etc. This year max. 100 vehicles with alternative, future oriented powertrains.


* December:
Bertha Benz Challenge Shanghai. Finish at the Automechanika Shanghai.

Limited participation only for (PH) / EV, business participants will be preferred this year. More information can be found on the website (UK language will follow) :

Unfortunately Discovery Channel also forgot about a couple of relevant details. Bertha together with her both sons Eugen en Richard drove the Patent-Motorwagen No.3, thus not the far better known Patent-Motorwagen No.1, from Mannheim to Pforzheim v.v.

Press Release: Futureoriented Bertha Benz Challenge will start for the first time from the IAA

• Spectacular vehicles and high-ranking companies participate
• To commemorate 125 years Bertha Benz drive (1888-2013)
• Federal Minister of Environment - Peter Altmaier also supports as patron
• Start 13th september 2013 - 13:00 , area F12 / F13


Several spectacular electric vehicles have been registered for this year's Bertha Benz Challenge: Rimac Concept One (an electric sports car with 1,088 hp, 0-100 km / h in 2.8 seconds, 305 km / h), several new Tesla Model S, the fast Protoscar Lampo 3 from Switzerland, ETH Zurich will also bring 2 special vehicles, several biiista futuristic motorcycles from Austria, etc.

Also the participating companies are all of a high level: Akasol, MAGNA STEYR, MAHLE International, NXP (NL), SEW, TÜV SÜD, etc. The Hessian state government will come with 10 green vehicles from their " Hessen - Strom bewegt " programm this time ...


Already the two prime ministers of Hessen and Baden-Württemberg could be won, Mr. Bouffier and Mr. Kretschmann, and now even the Federal minister of Environment - Peter Altmaier. Thus, the Bertha Benz Challenge wins a lot of weight and attention.

This year` gala edition of the leading driving event for sustainable mobility in Germany was invited to start directly from Frankfurt Motorshow for the 1 st time. So 45 most innovative vehicles with almost 100 international participants - incl. multiple CEO`s - joined at 13.09.23013 for their journey along Bertha Benz ` traces ! It became another huge succes without any incidents or technical troubles despite rainy conditions on saturday morning and the various prototypes participating.

Highlights were the Rimac One, Protoscar Lampo 3, Suncar - Evora Hybrid from ETH Zürich, but also Mahle` Audi A1 RE ( 45g Co2 /100 km ), the Twike XP4 and the biiista boys from Austria. Everywhere the e-bikers showed up they became the epicenter of interest.
And all participants were very enthousiastic about the visit of the Dr. Carl Benz museum, where 125 years automobile development is displayed LIVE with real objects like the genuine Patent Motor Car No. 3. It is the world oldest car in original condition !
But also the rest of the programm offered more than enough content, variation and time for valuable discussions and acquisition of new contacts. And of course the laps on the Hockenheimring were an electrifying experience again for all, especially since the track was quite slippery and the safety car ´speed was not that slow .....

In 2014 Bertha Benz Challenge will start again Frankfurt , then from Automechanika trade fair, which will have a dedicated hall for e-mobility for the 1st time. Ideas to enhance the event further are already being discussed, more info will be released in near future !

Of course we look forward to welcome more participants from abroad again next year ! All cars with valid license and insurance for german public roads, thus also prototypes, can be registered.
