Aftermarket Wheels Installed

Thinking of getting a set of aftermarket wheels for my MY. Martin Wheels or Tsportline. What is the recommended way to get these installed? Order the wheels online then Tesla has to install or can someone else do this? Understand an installer must have Tesla type lift not to damage car, right? What are the recommendations? Thanks

There is nothing unique about mounting tires and wheels for a Tesla. Some prefer to order tire and wheel packages, i.e for winter tires, that come already mounted and balanced. In addition to tires and wheels you will need to buy four Tesla TPMS sensors unless you plan to move the current TPMS to the new wheels.

If you don't want to install the wheels yourself (assuming you even have a floor jack and the other needed tools on hand) you would just need to find a local garage to mount and balance the tires if they did not come to you already mounted on the new wheels and install the wheels. You can ask online in the Tesla forums or clubs in your area for recommendations for auto shops and tire shops that work on Tesla vehicles. Then call and ask to speak with the manager, tell them what you need.

The Tesla Owner's Manual provides specific instructions on how to properly lift the vehicle, where the four lift points are located. Improper lifting of the Tesla vehicle will cause expensive damage to the vehicle and the battery pack if the Tesla is not lifted with exactly the right placement of the lift arms of the car lift or floor jack. There are lift pads sold for the Tesla that make locating the lift points easier. Some shops may use the lift pads but if you know what to do the lift pads are not required. Tesla makes no mention of using lift pads in the owner's manual.

If you live in a remote location and can install the wheels yourself once the tires are mounted and balanced it makes sense to order a tire and wheel package. If you live in an apartment and don't have a place to store tires and wheels until you can get these installed you can arrange to have the tires and wheels shipped directly to the local installer by prior arrangement. Tire Rack, other online tire and wheel sellers have a network of installers and can ship your tires, wheels directly to a local installer. The installer will contact you when your tires and wheels have arrived and are ready to be installed.
