Hi all,

I have a Tesla model S. I don’t have a home charger installed as we’re looking to move house soon.

In the meantime I’m looking to use a 3 pin plug from my home. Issue is our parking is about 10 metres away from our house so I’d need an extension lead.

Is this safe to have an extension lead running from our home wall plug with a waterproof plug socket?

Is there any risk of home fires etc?

Use the shortest length that will reach.
Use the thickest wire you can find.
Check each connection for temperature each 1/2 hour the first time that you use it.
If any part is ever too hot to hold on to with bare hands, stop using it immediately.
If you follow these rules, then you can safely use an extension. On the other hand, if you just use whatever cheap lead you have laying around, you will certainly melt something and possibly cause a fire.
