2016 Model S AC Relay Melted! $2800 Fix?

I posted earlier about my 2016.5 Model S 90D—the AC only works while I’m driving, not while stopped or in park. So I took it to Tesla and they said the relay(s) were melted and needed to be replaced, along with a new wiring harness for…$2800!?! So now I’m utterly depressed (I just bought the car three weeks ago). But while researching the issue, this has happened to others per a couple of threads (which I’ll link below) and so I’m wondering—is there a cheaper fix? And what qualifies as something that should be recalled? Melting components seems valid. If so, how does one get said ball rolling?
Thanks so much as always!

I'm sorry for your pain. It's a risk in out-of-warranty cars. Just because it's a Tesla or EV doesn't mean you don't have to pay for repairs.

There are a few DIY specialists who might give you a better quote, but when you add the cost of shipping your car or driving there to hotel expenses, it might be a moot point.

I guess. $3000 for two burned out relays? It’s a consistent flaw I’m finding.
