Some things to check:
  • Is the wave spring broken? When it breaks the different broken parts overlap and cause it to bind up. To check this you have to unscrew the circular retaining nut under the rubber gasket inside the open end of the connector. This requires a special tool. If the connector is not otherwise damaged then this is the most likely culprit, especially if it binds up worse at the end of locking it all the way in.
  • Did you drop it? They will get out-of-round when dropped and bind up.
  • Are any of the 3 guide pins sticking out or missing from the outer sleeve?
  • Have you lubricated it with Tesla's recommended lubricant? Tesla used to do this as part of the annual service.

What’s is the Tesla’s recommended lubricant? Can we get it at auto parts stores?

Thank you!
Sounds like I have a broken wave spring. It is harder at the end of travel.

Where do I find the special tool?
