Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Yep, those 2 plus the one up in Lewes. But this is the first on the northbound side of the highway, which will be of significant benefit.
It continues to amaze me how much Tesla puts into expanding the SC network.
The Royal Farms on the northbound side of Rt. 1 in Rehoboth (between the Tanger Seaside outlet and Iron Hill brewery) is getting 12 250kW stalls. They've broken ground recently but it looks like it'll still be a few months. This location is across the highway and a little north of the existing...
PS4S "T0" style are still unavailable. My hands are tied, I need tires ASAP.
Tire Rack lists 3 styles of PS4S: regular, Porsche ("N0") and Tesla ("T0"). Since the latter is unavailable, what's the difference between regular and "N0" PS4S tires? Is one noisier than the other? Also, how does...
I was able to source the "N0" variant (apparently for Porsche), but saw where Tesla owners mentioned lots of extra noise with them. I'd really prefer a tire as quiet as the T0's.
My M3P needs tires as well and I'm looking to install replacement PS4S on there. Does anyone know of a source for those (and specifically, the "T0" Tesla variant) in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region? I've not been able to find any in stock for 2 months so far.
Wanted to leave this here for anyone else buying Pilot Sport 4S tires @ U.S. Costcos. As of Jan 2022, the "acoustic" PS4S tires (the "T0" style) are SKU 1237608. I called to find this out since the web site showed 3 different SKUs for the PS4Ses and I couldn't tell the difference.
This is in...
Thanks for the feedback. Treadwear isn't something I care terribly about, but a notable drop in dry traction would bug me; I was hoping for a negligible drop in dry grip. We tend to have mild winters where I live anyway, so the handful of days where I can't get away with PS4s I'll just drive...
Aside from the noise, how much of a performance drop is there from PS4s to AS4s? I have loved the PS4s but it would be nice to have a little winter confidence if the performance trade-off is minimal.
I stopped here on 2/22 and only the 4 stalls facing the adjacent restaurant were working; several drivers attempted to hookup on the backside but gave up and had to use the front 4. But I did clock 153kW on my 3. Very glad to have this charger in north Charleston!
How awesome would that be if you could see the stalls on the Deldot camera!
Don't you mean new v3 service at Lewes? That's a pure v2 facility today.
That Newark SC is ridiculously crowded on weekends; some additional stalls and/or v3 would be nice to have.
Just a follow up, I've now seen my car report power levels in agreement with the Chargepoint charger, and it's been able to max out the available power (~49kW) as well. So I'm not sure why in some circumstances it reports a discrepancy, but I'm convinced it's working properly.
You are probably correct. I'm going to remain hopeful they can get something moving, as I've seen several new SCs come online just in the past month in VA and MD. And it seems to me Tesla would want to keep the SC network expanding steadily as a means to drive new sales, especially with the...
Raleigh to Charleston shouldn't be a big deal if you have an LR 3. I recently went from D.C. to Folly Beach to visit friends and was fine. It's only 65mi from the Santee SC to Folly, so downtown Charleston is a chunk closer. I agree they're overdue for an SC somewhere in greater Charleston...
FYI, the DCFC plug that looks similar (in part) to a J1772 actually belongs to a standard known as Combined Charging System (CCS). There is no CCS adapter for U.S. Tesla vehicles at this time, though you're right, it would be very useful and I imagine they'll produce one in the future.
CHAdeMO...
Ahh, good data point. Was the LEAF claiming power levels closer to the station's numbers?
Maybe this weekend I'll seek out other, non-Chargepoint Chademo stations in the area and see if the 3 is consistent.
Reviving this thread...
A free 50kW Chargepoint station opened in my neighborhood this summer, so I got a Chademo adapter. Similar to you, the car strongly disagrees with what the station reports: 48kW (station) vs. 41kW (car).
Clearly, there isn't 7kW of loss in the Chademo adapter. Is this...
I dug out an old Microsoft Sidewinder game pad -- the ancient 4-button model -- and that at least works with Centipede. :) I haven't tested it with BBII yet however.
Unfortunately, no. It looks way more possible in that photo than it truly is.
The best way to fully utilize available space is definitely going to be a soft-sided cooler.
My Perf 3's Brembos make a loud noise *on every stop* for 12+ hours after it rains. The sound is odd, it's definitely not a squeal but something closer to a groan, if that makes sense.
It could leave swirls in the coating. You would hope that it wouldn't, but if they try hard enough, I could certainly believe it!
Coatings don't seem to be as hard as they're marketed to be, IMHO. I have come to believe the proper perspective is to treat a ceramic coating as a sacrificial...
I have found a hard-sided cooler for the sub-trunk.
I went through this table of coolers and found the largest hard-sided coolers that met the height limit of the sub-trunk, which seems to be approx. 11.75". There were 2 that came up: Stanley Adventure 16 Quart and the Mammoth Cruiser 15. The...
The way those stack is nice. I need to buy one of the shorter ones for use in the frunk, but I wish the taller one was *just* 1/2" shorter so it would fit under the sub-trunk lid.
Thanks for testing this. Just to clarify, you kept the cooler in the main trunk, not the sub-trunk?
Also, Amazon often combines products under one link, which can be confusing. Is this the cooler you have?

The adapter allows you to utilize your stock Gen1 14-50 plug on a 14-30 outlet. The reason I mentioned dialing down the amperage is because the car will think it's on a 50A. circuit. So that's the disadvantage of this aftermarket adapter vs. getting the native Tesla 14-30 pigtail, but it's...
If you can't find a Gen1 14-30 pigtail, you might want to consider this adapter, which isn't expensive. Note you will have to manually set the car's charging rate to 24A.
ONETAK NEMA 14-30P to 14-50R...
Gotta be challenging for the car to recognize and compensate for lane-splitting motorcycles. It seems like auto lane-change in a state that permits lane-splitting may not be wise.
If 2.5 mi/kWh is the e-tron's mild-weather efficiency, that's not great. However I've seen my P3D drop to that level in mountainous winter driving, so in certain circumstances it isn't completely uncharacteristic for an M3. But yeah, this time of year, even the P3D approaches 4 mi/kWh and the...
It sounds like your car has the new v3 computer. I wonder if non-v3 cars will see this as well, since H.265 is way more CPU-intensive to encode than H.264. Anyone with 2.5 hardware have 2019.16 yet?
I bet your car's software is the same as ours, but NOA is disabled due to your region.
It does make me wonder, are features like NOA location-aware? Eg, if you were to drive your vehicle into a jurisdiction where NOA was permitted, would it activate? Realistically I think it might be tied to...
Since delivery in Sep '18, my P3D always says "Pay per Use Supercharging" in the customer portal, and a dollar amount is indicated on my display while I'm Supercharging. However, I've never paid a dime for it, and they did confirm that my VIN shows FUSC. So I don't worry about it.
Ooh I had my first of these yesterday, with 2019.8.5. I'll have to upload some video, it was fairly spectacular. It crashed and rebooted by itself about 4-5 minutes later.
Very rarely, I'll get a sequence of light "pop" noises from somewhere in the dash's speaker bar that initially fooled me into thinking it was a rattle. But it's only happened maybe twice (that I've noticed), and I can't identify any triggering conditions when it does. It's one of those things...
Good point about CCS and the battery voltage. Given the maximum ratings listed in Wikipedia, I think CCS ought to be able to support nearly 200kW on a 400V pack. The question remains, if we get a US version of the CCS adapter, what will its maximum power rating be?
Nice that SCv3 remains a...
While you're right about Chademo, CCS 2.0 maxes out at 350kW vs. Supercharger v3 at 250kW, so CCS wins in that regard. Supercharging is cheaper though and I hope always will be.
I think this is the main point of the adapter and would allow you maximum flexibility while on a trip. I'm always...
I saw it mentioned, but didn't see a link... but the Parkworld 691944 is likely the simplest adapter for your situation (minding the advice on setting the car to 24A)...
I’m definitely interested, if you still have it!
I’m in the DC area, but I’ll have a friend visiting central NJ this weekend if that helps.
Let me know where to PayPal or Venmo.
thanks,
Jonathan
