    Damaged Charge Port: Chargeable?

Good news! I was able to push the pin down and it charged, and released the charge handle as well. Looks like we're good, until we get a rental, if my wife wants to drive a car that looks like it's been through a demolition derby.

    Damaged Charge Port: Chargeable?

I was clipped by an 18-wheeler Peterbilt dump truck that cratered the left rear quarter panel, including the charge port. I can't insert the charger because the bottom post is protruding. We've removed the plate covering the port. Can I cut the post out? it doesn't look electrical. The...

Link to thread on home charging w/o wall charger?

When we got our Model 3, there was a great thread on installing a charger at home which we did and it works fine. Last week we got new neighbors and he was asking me about charging their M3 and would love to share info with them. We installed an outdoor 240 box with clothes dryer plug attached...

    Dashcam, USB, and Autopilot

Does the dash cam only work with autopilot? We don't have autopilot so is there any ability to use the dash cam manually? The instructions I saw said to format the drive using Fat32 (were on Windows). Does it work on drives bigger than 32 GB that have to be formatted and exFat? Thanks, Reid

Epidemic of Model 3 small window break-ins

My wife works in San Francisco and her small window got broken into last week. I called the local Tesla service center, and they said to contact one of three body shops. The shops told me it would take one to two days for tesla to transmit the order for the window once they received it, and 5...

Keep the free 19" Premium Upgrade, or Ask for the 18" Aero wheels?

Hard to say. I only drove the Areos when we test drove the car. I drove on the 19" a month later

    High Beams not working?

Swaltner Thanks so much. That's a big help, and a good reason why we were getting so frustrated. It sounds like auto high beams should be renamed to something like Boonie mode, the Sticks, or No Burb.
  15. R

    High Beams not working?

ok. Took off auto high beams and works. Will auto dim still work?

    High Beams not working?

Car is about 3 weeks old, so this is the likely time of something electrical not working. The auto dim high beams worked initially, and now the only way to turn on the high beams is to pull the stalk toward the driver and hold. When I push forward, I only get a grayed out icon on the screen...

    Surprises for a New Owner

Rachel, I've had our M3 for about 4 days longer than you, and thought my post would be useful: Regenerative Breaking: Oh, I get it! A $50K Golf Cart! Reid
  22. R

Adjust Accelerator? It feels a little too stiff.

You're right... At least it doesn't have the same clutch as my old '71 Datsun pick up...No power steering either!

Regenerative Breaking: Oh, I get it! A $50K Golf Cart!

Oh great! Thanks for letting me know!
  24. R

Closing the trunk: What were they thinking?

Are other people annoyed by the trunk? I have an Acura MDX which closes so easily since all you need to do is lower, and it will engage the latch mechanism electronically. No wailing away, no slamming. You think that a $50,000 car would have a more sophisticated trunk latch than a '63 Chevy. Reid
  25. R

Adjust Accelerator? It feels a little too stiff.

Is there any adjustment for the accelerator pedal so that it's not as firm. I find that it's a little bit stiff and that I start to feel it in my leg after driving for a while. Reid

Regenerative Breaking: Oh, I get it! A $50K Golf Cart!

I'm on about day four with the Tesla. At first, I found the regenerative braking pretty annoying. It felt like driving around in first gear when I took my foot off the accelerator. But then I figured they put this on for reason, so I might as well give the Tesla Way a try. As soon as I...

ELON! Where is my rear wiper blade?

My MDX has one. My Subaru had one. Our Preius has one. Even the econ-box Honda Fit has a rear window wiper blade, but not the M3! Really? So I got our M3 a present today I can keep under the driver's seat: Rain-X Collapsible Compact Squeegee...

    M3: First Impressions

Tesla emailed us with a revised purchase contract with an additional charge of $1,500 for the wheels and no explanation. It took a couple of hours of calls to work things out and having them tell us the revised agreement wasn't the final agreement since it didn't have the VIN (so why did they...

    M3: First Impressions

It's 10:30 on Sunday night, and we just got back from having dinner and driving the M3 back from Freemont. Our appt was at 3, but our car wasn't ready until a few hours later, like waiting at the airport for your relatives to arrive. The Tesla center was right out of the Apple playbook...

Picking up M3 on Sunday (9/23), Anything I Need to Know or Ask?

Keep the free 19" Premium Upgrade, or Ask for the 18" Aero wheels?

DJ, I just thought I'd check and see what the latest is with your M3 since I think you pick up on Tuesday. Any resolution on the purchase agreement and taking off the extra charge form premium wheels? Reid
  35. R

Keep the free 19" Premium Upgrade, or Ask for the 18" Aero wheels?

yes, and all this happens 3 days before we have to pick up the car, er, I mean "delivery." I don't have $50K just sitting in my shoe, so it makes it tighter coordinating with the lender to get the money in time since they need a signed purchase agreement
  36. R

Keep the free 19" Premium Upgrade, or Ask for the 18" Aero wheels?

This has been a real headache since all we got was an email saying that our order had been changed, and it included a purchase contract with the additional charge. I called Tesla and they explained to me that they only issue final purchase contracts for days before pick up, and that would not...

    Outdoor NEMA 14-50 Enclosure

O1, Really great point about not needing fast charging time when the NEMA 14-50 will charge just fine overnight. Save $500! And my electrician said that we may not even be able to install the Wall Charger since it's 50 amp and our box is rated at 125, considering all the other stuff we have...

    Outdoor NEMA 14-50 Enclosure

Okay one last question I think. On the Wall Charger, I know that there is a button that pops the electrical cover on the car. Is that the case with the UMC? If not, how do you open the cover on the car? Can you physically open it, or do you need to open it from an app or inside the car? If you...

    Outdoor NEMA 14-50 Enclosure

Thanks for your great info. So the difference between the two would be length of time to charge? I'm not concerned about theft, especially if it's behind a 1/2 wall fence. The outdoor location appeals as we don't park in the garage, and I wouldn't have to pull the cable in and out of the...

    Outdoor NEMA 14-50 Enclosure

So if I understand things correctly, I have two choices: one, use the 1450 connector and the cable that comes with the car, or 2) use the Wall Charger, which may have some advantages for charging and protection, and have that directly hardwired to the circuit box. So my question is can I...

    Outdoor NEMA 14-50 Enclosure

I'm thinking of installing an outdoor charger based on the following photo. (Forgive my hack Photoshop job) and was wondering if it's possible, safe, legal? I'm in northern CA. I would like to keep the cable plugged in at all times. Do I need to have another weatherproof box. for the cable...

Keep the free 19" Premium Upgrade, or Ask for the 18" Aero wheels?

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful comments, I really appreciate your time and input. Given that the 19" look better, we're willing to eat the increased efficiency of the aero wheels, the car is ready for pick up, and we could swap them out easily in the San Francisco Bay Area, and all the...

Keep the free 19" Premium Upgrade, or Ask for the 18" Aero wheels?

Thanks, And what about the trade offs of ride, noise, wear, and sound? Would the 19" be that different? I agree that the 19" wheels look SO much better.
