Tesla: Highlights from our upcoming Spring Release below

Please tell me there's still an option to have the map (including satellite view) mostly full-screen like it is in the current version of the UI?? Definitely hoping they didn't throw that away just for the pretty AP visualizations! If they did then I guess I just need to hope that I don't get...

What's your odometer at? Who's gone the farthest?

I'm curious about how those that've had a model 3 for a long time and driven it a long way have been fairing. Like how the battery holds up in the multi-thousand mile range. So far my 2018 model 3 is at 75,000 miles, and still going strong, but I'd love to hear other's experiences! Back when the...

    Pause Trip-A/B odometers

I also don't see the point in limiting us to 2 resettable odometers. I have one used for "lifetime" (well, since FSD computer upgrade, anyway), limiting me to only one other trackable trip. It takes virtually no additional memory or processing power or anything, why not allow arbitrarily many...

Tesla: Highlights from our upcoming Spring Release below

Teslas's got us so spoiled with updates, my previous car never got a single update (other than maybe behind-the-scenes recalls at service appointments), but I'm also sad to see that I'm not going to be getting many of the latest and greatest features anymore. They offered a retrofit from the...

The CCS ECU and Combo 1 Harness Retrofit is now free?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already gotten the official retrofit, the price wasn't bad considering it comes with the CCS adapter as well, and that I wanted to have it pretty urgently (for a roadtrip to see the eclipse). It worked well and has earned its keep in that way!

Tesla: Highlights from our upcoming Spring Release below

Personally I finally feel like the current version of the UI has been perfected, they resolved all the issues people had with it when it was first added. Even the notorious auto-wiper problems have become far less frequent, and we're able to turn them off again. Not a big fan of the redesign...

    Validation Prototypes (VPs)

Off topic from the recent discussion, but all the links in the original post from @TEG seem to be broken, either going to the forum list or an "oops, we could not find that page" page. Could those be edited to working links (or maybe archives from archive.org if needed?)

    FSD Released to Legacy S and X - 2024.3.15

When you say "legacy" S and X, what autopilot hardware version are you referring to? Presumably only relatively recently models that have HW3? I'd be pretty shocked if Tesla's trying to add FSD to hardware 2.5 cars without a retrofit, and certainly no AP1 cars that don't even support EAP and...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I've had the same issue as well, there's one particular right turn I often take where FSD will constantly turn into the shoulder (which ends after another block) instead of the actual road lanes. I wish they'd use some special case code for certain locations that it always gets wrong, like if...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I've got 2 datapoints for you: 2023 Model 3 with 2024.3.15 (12.3.4): Bank A: 2.17GB Bank B: 2.17GB. 2018 Model 3 with 2024.3.10 (12.3.3): Bank A: 2.11GB Bank B: 2.17GB Do we know what the total capacity of each bank is? It's interesting how often that 2.17GB comes up in both versions and banks

    mirage problem?

I've also experienced recent phantom breaking while driving on the freeway with visible mirages (running FSD 12.3.3, so still the V11 stack on the freeway). Definitely only happens when there are visible mirages, and not when it's at night, cloudy, etc.
  12. A

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Does anyone know exactly when the transition point is between the V11 stack that's being used for freeways, and the V12 stack used for cities? I wonder if that transition could be related to this issue, like if V11 is initially making a bad decision that V12 needs to correct, or if a more...

    Supercharger - Ozona, TX - 14th St

Even once it does show up in the car's nav, Plugshare, the app, etc, it'll still have more than twice the capacity that the old one does, since it has double the number of stalls and isn't limited to the 75kW load sharing like the older one is, so there'll be much shorter lines :)
  14. A

    Supercharger - Willcox, AZ

Yeah, I'd worried about a potential charging experience like this one at each stop along the way, but so far Wilcox has been the only problematic stop as long as one plans the journey well!

Camp mode, screen, and rear USB?

Update, it looks like the rear USB ports might be powered after all, but not working with non-Apple lightning cables? (See here for more info on that), my question about the screen remains, is there any way to return to the dark view that is presented when first activating camp mode?

Rear USB C Ports not working

Did you ever figure out this issue? I did the USB C retrofit for my 2018 model 3 a few years ago, and just realized we might have the same issue. Apple lighting cables work fine to charge our iPhones, but third party lightning cables and (Apple's official) Apple Watch chargers don't seem to get...

Camp mode, screen, and rear USB?

I'm trying out camp mode in my 2018 model 3, to, well, camp. I've encountered a few behaviors that I didn't expect based on what I've read about it. For one thing, the rear USB ports aren't getting any power, which is surprising since everything I've read about camp mode specifically mentions...

    Supercharger - Willcox, AZ

When I showed up at this supercharger yesterday the line was around 20 cars long, we decided to backtrack to Benson and use the Electrify America station there instead. Based on further Plugshare comments, I think this was the right choice, even though time-wise it was probably pretty similar...

    Supercharger - Ozona, TX - 14th St

Charging here worked great, sad that many don't know about it, apparently there's a 15 minute wait for the other charger in town, but only those who check this forum or recent Plugshare comments know about this option. Also met a friendly gentleman that happens to live in an adjacent town to...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm not disagreeing with your overall point or conclusions, but as a funny aside, I'd argue that technically the part that's analogous to the "prompt" for a language model would be the situation you're driving in, so prompt engineering would be analogous to driving on better roads that FSD can...

    Tesla supercharging during solar eclipse?

I wouldn't be too shocked if some gas stations are low on gas too. Also depends on how many miles you expect to drive on eclipse day, if you're able to get a charge overnight (I'm planning to charge at an RV park, for example)
  22. A

    Supercharger - Ozona, TX - 14th St

I think I've read about it sometimes coming online a bit before showing up in the website/nav/app? Though that was a while back, maybe newer superchargers automate the process further.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Lol yeah I guess I may have been the lowest priority updater (or perhaps the most important one 😎). Also I think the forum software may have automatically decided the message was potentially spam, as I didn't seem to get an actual notification for it like I would expect to when specifically pinged.
  24. A

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Thanks for the heads up, the update is indeed available and now downloading (though seemingly stuck at 0B/s around the halfway point at the moment) . It's an honor to have been deemed worthy of a ping about this :) Coincidentally although I haven't downloaded the update to my car yet, I got to...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I worried about the same thing for quite a while, but since installing V12 and seeing how well it performs, my worries of that are gone. I do think there may be certain situations Tesla will want to hardcode behavior for, or maybe use specific overriding map data (such as for one freeway on...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Another follow-up, apparently he was provided the wrong version of the replacement part to install. He had us drive after him to the service center, where he got and installed the correct part, which did work successfully, as we tested at an EVGo charger on the way home. It was very finicky to...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

The retrofit is currently ongoing on my car, it's definitely interesting to follow the process! It's a pretty quick process to do the actual replacement, most of the time is just waiting on software. According to the technician, the CCS Retrofit option in the service menu has around a 50-50...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

This is kinda what happened when smart summon first came out! People figured out that OpenStreetMaps was the data source that Tesla used for parking lot maps, and started contributing to OSM to fix local parking lot problems! A lot of other mapping providers use OSM as an upstream data source...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I've found that they've been nearly completely solved on recent versions of FSD! Also they reenabled the "off" option for wipers while autopilot is active so it's no longer a significant issue even if you are encountering them, just switch the wipers out of "auto" mode.

Vendor Wish you could reduce Supercharging usage? Looking for testers

Awesome project! If you're still accepting volunteers to get free units for help with testing them, I'd definitely be interested! I'm especially interested in use as a portable device, as a couple frequent travel destinations for me don't have 240v service and aren't very near superchargers. I...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

The way I see it, the actual CCS support is a nice bonus that I'm unlikely to use often if at all. The main benefit is support for NACS chargers from sources aside from Tesla, which will start becoming a lot more common in the next several years now that everyone's committed to standardizing on...

    Got my first coal roll

Congratulations lol. I got tons of coal rolls earlier on, but the frequency has died down since Teslas became ubiquitous around here, so now it's a rarity.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

So apparently I've been driving V12.2.1 for a while and hadn't even realized it (I assumed the last update to 2023.44.30.20 was a minor bug fix, not the update we'd all been waiting for for ages!) It's been really good so far! There's one intersection it routinely messes up, trying to go into a...

Poll: When will we have Level 3 or Level 4 on highways?

For the sake of this poll I would consider the "current hardware" criteria to be satisfied if any currently-shipping vehicles would be able to run level 3 or higher autonomy with no physical hardware modifications, even if it's only a very specific configuration such as only the current...

Poll: When will we have Level 3 or Level 4 on highways?

The nags have gotten stricter, largely due to government requests and in response to the defeat devices, but at the same time autopilot's handling of highways has gotten much better, so that's why I'm strongly hoping (as potentially unrealistic as it may be) that we get a nag-free level 3/4...

Poll: When will we have Level 3 or Level 4 on highways?

I'm curious when (if ever) you expect Tesla vehicles to be capable of (and approved for use with) Level 3 or Level 4 autonomy on highways, allowing the driver to, for example, read a book as the car does the driving. Also curious if you think any existing hardware (HW3 or HW4) will be able to...

NHTSA make roads across the world less safe

Personally, I don't object to the concept of driver monitoring, requiring attentiveness, but I do object to it applying only to the cars that are most capable of safely operating under those circumstances. There's no reason that Tesla should be required to aggressively nag drivers for glancing...

How to arrange Fremont factory visit

According to the latest episode of the Ride The Lightning podcast, Tesla is finally offering factory tours again, but now it's only available if two people buy Teslas using your referral code, and you choose to spend the loot box points on it. So that's exciting that tours are theoretically...

    2023.7.30 and Loss of Autowipers

Is this feature documented anywhere? Or potentially just a placebo? It would be really useful to allow us to set the wiper speed just by manually pressing the button 2-3 times at the rate we want (regardless of whether it auto-adjusts from there or just keeps that speed), that would seem to be...

Meet Electric Sidecar: a new mobile app for vehicle owners [seeking beta testers]

Have you decided on a business model for once you're done with beta testing? Might there be an option for beta testers to get the final app for free or a reduced price? I'm interested in testing the app but don't want to find myself stuck with an expensive subscription or anything like that...

    FSD Beta v11.x

The new 3D view when parking is definitely present on HW3 Model 3s without USS. Though I suppose there's a chance (but unlikely) that it's an MCU2 vs MCU3 difference?

REVR: Proposed affordable Plug-in retrofit kit

It's a clever proposal, installing the motor between the wheels and brake disks. Given the early stage of the project...

how can we encourage tesla to give better audible alert of AP status: full, distance keeping, or off

I'm of mixed opinions on this one. To me the notification beeps are all distinct and obvious what's going on, I've never been confused about the state of autopilot, yet when my mom drives the car she frequently gets confused by it, no matter how many times I explain the beep system and where to...
