We got our LR RWD in July 2018 and the car has been ridiculously solid. Had one of the front fog lights conk out about a month in, but Mobile Service came by and swapped in a new unit. Other than that, our only service has been tire rotations.

It's kind of perverted to sit there and think, "do I need to run any errands...?" And then get excited when the answer is "Yes"! I tell friends that I love my Model 3 more than life itself. Just so damn clean, quiet... and downright FUN. (Note: mine is just a LR RWD!)

Got my rack installed tonight, took about 25 minutes. Having all the discussion about installation made the job go super fast. The rubber strips in the channel seem very flexible so I don't anticipate any problems installing the mounting bolts for my tandem bike rack, which I'm going to try out...

My thinking is that the original clips (the shorter ones) were properly annealed and are likely OK, though shorter than optimum. Then they identified an issue with the threaded stud length and in the process of altering the way they were made, someone slipped up and they weren't annealed...

Yeah I got that email. Never got the shipping notice but they did come via FedEx.

My replacement J-bolts arrived today. Will probably install the rack next week.

They should show up pretty quickly -- I never got a shipping notice, but the new clips arrived about 5 minutes ago. Same silver clips as @outdoors. Shipped from Yakima, so that definitely answers the question of who is making these.

What procedure are you using for annealing? I have a programmable kiln and can anneal mine if I know temperatures and times (I haven't gotten any notice from Yakima). Thanks!

Do these have any kind of serial number on them? That may help with identifying problematic units. I haven't opened my box yet but will this weekend.

I'm hoping they'll just ship replacement hooks that have been properly engineered. Fingers crossed.

Something tells me that someone messed up on the production of these, maybe in the hardening of the J-bolts, when welding on the threaded studs or maybe when spec-ing the material itself. I'm assuming they're snapping due to tensile stress since some of them are snapping long after they were...

Yow. When these break, the hook part of the clip is pretty far down in the channel between the glass and the car frame -- how hard is it to get the broken piece out? [Edit] actually, from the photos it looks like the actual break is above the channel, so maybe that's not a concern. But this...

Just an additional data point re: other high-end service: A friend of mine was a BMW mechanic at a dealership in New York for a time. He did a good job troubleshooting and fixing cars, but at one point his manager took him aside and told him he wasn't "replacing enough parts". Dandy. So far...

Well, considering that they have said that the Model Y shares ~70% of the Model 3's components (presumably the entire battery, drive system and much of the chassis), this is a much lighter lift than tooling up for the Model 3 was -- I definitely don't think we'll see the kind of production hell...

Odd. I expected the marring to be where they clip onto the spokes. No marring here, though I like my aero covers better than the stock wheels and they stay on all the time.

My guess is the Tesla one is the only one that will have the proper attachment hardware, unless Yakima is offering one specifically for the Model 3.
