    Bike rack for 4 bikes?

Yep. I used it for one trip and the driving dynamics made me so nervous that I sold the entire system and moved to the pole mounted Thule in the picture above. I’ve seen lots of folks with 4-6 bike tray systems - I wouldn’t use it or follow closely behind one!

    Bike rack for 4 bikes?

I had a 2017 pano-sunroof with the whispbar system that failed after about 10k miles on it with 4 bikes (I also had TWO tandem kayaks on it for 900ish miles). The amount of wind force is astounding and your range will be cut in half with the bikes on the highway and more than in half if you...

Headlights turning on after parked 2020.48?

You’re right, HW3 is correct. I messaged Tesla and they were very quick to check out the car and issued a new software update which corrected the issue. If anyone has this problem, just schedule an appointment via the app and get them to reissue the software update.

Headlights turning on after parked 2020.48?

I just updated to 2020.48.30 and noticed that my taillights and headlights are turning on in my garage a few minutes after I park and staying on. Sentry is disabled. I turned off the “Headlights after parked” setting, but they still turn back on by themselves 3-4 minutes after parked. I also put...

Can MX 6-seater fit 55-inch or 65-inch tv (new in box) in the trunk?

We fit a 55in with room to spare. I'm not sure with enough for 9 more inches for the 65 though. If you move the 2nd rows up as far as they'll go and imagine that you'll slide it in laying flat from the trunk as far up as it'll go and measure from the 2nd row headrest to the back of the trunk...

    Fit and finish issues

I've owned a 2017 Model S and X, both had very slight issues. My advice, buy a used S from Tesla, have them correct any problems that are not disclosed in pictures (my used X actually looked better than the pictures), pay for paint correction or a wrap, and you'll be happy. Panel gaps are much...

Thinking about trading X for S ... change my mind!

If I only used 2 bikes, then the tray system is the way to go for speed and ease. But, the longer it sticks out from the tongue, the more force is applied, so I don't recommend going beyond 2 bikes on a tray. The hanging system takes me about 2-3 minutes to hang 5 bikes and a bit less to take...

How much weight can the frunk support?

50lbs shouldn't be a problem. I've taken my front compartment apart to add the Hanshow power funk and the tub should easily handle 50lbs long-term. If you plan to put a scooter in there daily, I highly recommend the power funk. It takes about an hour and makes it so much more useful. Video...

Thinking about trading X for S ... change my mind!

We used to use our minivan and a hitch mounted rack when we had the MS - for the same reason as you, I didn't want to install a hitch mount. On the MX, we use a Yakima 5 bike holder and it works like a charm. I usually only have 4 bikes on the rack and a kids 20in bike in the trunk. I recommend...

Thinking about trading X for S ... change my mind!

We had an S with the rear facing jump seats for three years. With 3 small kids, it was the perfect daily driver and road trip car (we moved from a smaller Audi A4) - and yes, we took many week long trips in it. As the kids grew, they started to outgrow the rear facing seats and we moved to a 6...

Power Frunk installer Reno or Bay Area

I agree. I installed it in about 2 hours with no experience. It would've been A LOT faster, but I made the mistake with the Hanshow kit of removing the gas-shock arms and immediately putting the powered ones in on the old sockets. I tried to close the trunk and the new arms were too long. I...

    Thinking to buy pre-owned MX

It depends on what I carry with me. When I have 5 bikes on the back, it's around 205-215 miles. When it's low-country flat interstate driving without bikes or the bike hitch, its around 230-245. Normal driving is around town with the hills around here, it's about the same, depending on regen...

Odd paint rash on Falcon Wing Doors - anyone else?

I hadn't even thought about mud flaps on a car like this, but good call. I just bought mud guards from amazon and installed them last night. Took less than 2 minutes per side. It's crazy they don't come standard given the wheel offset and the likely damage.

    Thinking to buy pre-owned MX

I bought a used May 2017 MX 75D this summer from Tesla A few suggestions: 1) this is a great site to search inventory and apply the filters you want: TeslaCPO.io - Search Tesla's Vehicle Inventory 2) I was moving from a 2017 MS with FSD and had a few specific things I wanted: non-black...

Odd paint rash on Falcon Wing Doors - anyone else?

I sold my solid black model S this spring and picked up a used model X in obsidian black metallic. The paint is a lot easier to keep clean, lacks the deep gloss of the solid black, but looks great for longer than the 15 minutes you get with solid black in the real world. Anyway, I noticed that...

Is a 4-bike rack for Model X doable?

It’s a Yakima FullTilt 5 that holds up to 5. If you use 5, I’d aim for as close to 20lbs each as you can get, heaviest closest to the car.

Is a 4-bike rack for Model X doable?

I’ve used the 1up tray system and Yakima FullTilt for up to 5 bikes. The 1up system is very long and I felt so uncomfortable with 5 bikes on it after 10 miles that I pulled over and put the 20in kids bike and removed the tray and put them both inside the car. After we got home that evening, I...

    Power Frunk DIY Installation.

I installed the Hansshow model and it took about an hour. One thing to note that is not covered in the video: the new electric arms don’t use the same mounting points as the gas shocks. I followed the video and got everything setup, then went to close the trunk and the arms were too long to...

Extra ventilation for dog in rear compartment

Looks great! I use a similar setup with USB powered fans that have clamps for my kids. It’s also helpful to make sure the recycle air option is off - as that will open up vents in the very back of the car for air to flow from the front all the way to the trunk and out.

    Another "Tesla killer" fading already?

I have a 2017 MS 75D and was fortunate enough to be able to borrow an e-tron for a week this summer while my MS was in the shop for a body damage repair. It’s a beautiful car in and out, but not a true competitor to a Tesla for anyone that has a Tesla. The range is 200miles, if you drive...

Sunroof owners, do you have rust on your roof rack mounts??

I have another thread about my roof rack coming off here: Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes? It appears the roof attachment mounts from the factory have rusted and contributed to the bolts coming out. I’ve heard from 5 others with similar rust, but wanted to find out if a lot of others...

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

Those are the factory mounting holes and the original hardware that came with the sunroof option. They’re hidden under little flaps at each corner of the roof. It’s scary to see that much rust in two years. For what it’s worth, the bolts from the Whispbar Rack are stainless steel and look new...

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

The body shop sent back a few pictures of the mounts on the car. They think they rusted and then the threads gave out. It’s hard to tell, but be careful if you use a roof rack. This is from an April 2017 MS.

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

You guys are right on the bike weight. The frames are 18lbs, but as they are they’re closer to 32lbs. It was definitely close or just over the 165 max - I hadn’t really considered that. I have 29k miles on the car and around 4K with toys on the roof rack, mostly at highway speeds. I struggle to...

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

Bike holders are 13lbs each: total of 52 lbs. plus bikes is 133lbs total. That’s 80% of the load. I didn’t know about a 75% rule, just thought I was safe under the max. Honestly, I’ve never had any issues until scraping the bottom and hearing the pops on the roof. I think the front loafers...

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

The boats are 42 lbs each for less than 90lbs total. The bikes are 18lbs each for the adults, 20 for one kids and 25 for the other. Around 100 with the front loader racks. lbs

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

Two kids bikes are ok, but the adult bikes will need some real work. Really, I’m just glad that someone wasn’t behind me or the bikes didn’t fall left into oncoming traffic. That would’ve caused someone to swerve and could have ended tragically. The material stuff is all repairable. For peace...

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

I’ve had the Tesla Whispbar roof rack on my Model S for two years and used it on around 4,000 miles of trips with either two tandem kayaks or 4 bikes. I use Yakima JayLows for the kayaks and Yakima Front Loaders for the bikes. I’m pretty diligent about checking the system and take it off and on...

Model S/X deliveries drop off cliff, down 56%

When I bought a MS, I expected the M3 would have a similar drive/feel just on a shorter wheelbase. Kind of like how a 3-series and 5/7 series have similar driving characteristics due to their DNA and it's not as stark as a Civic vs a 5 series. I didn't expect that the M3 would run off of...

    21's or 22's on my 2018 Model S 75D?

Yep. These are the TSportLine 20s. Very reasonably priced and great quality. I absolutely love the roof rack, even with the “get a truck and don’t ruin this beauty”, “that’s... unique”, etc comments. This is a car - an awesome car - but just that, a car that I use everyday. 20s are great for...

    21's or 22's on my 2018 Model S 75D?

I had 19s and then tried 21s on a friend’s P90D and it was way too harsh and louder. I went with the 20s and they’re not noticeably different from a ride and noise perspective as the 19s, but look and have a more aggressive bite. A few 19 (silver) and 20 (grey) photos for comparison.

Multiple rear-facing car seats in back of Model S?

I’m a foster dad and occasionally have twin 4 month olds on the weekends in addition to my three kids (4, 6, and 7). I can easily fit a convertible front facing booster in the middle seat and two rear facing car seats on the outboard seats. The booster for the 4 year old uses a regular seat belt...

Model 3 vs CPO easier or harder with so much inventory?

Since you’re looking for a family road trip car, here are a few more pics to show you how fun it is with a large 7 seat MS. I’m a foster dad and had twin 2 months old along with my 3, 6, and 7 year olds. They all fit, plus scooters for the park! Also, bikes for 5 and two 13 foot long tandem...

Model 3 vs CPO easier or harder with so much inventory?

I have a ‘17 75S refresh with 3 kids, wife, and a biking/kayaking habit. We frequently take 200-450 mile road trips as a family with all of our stuff and it’s not an issue. We also have a minivan, but haven’t used it on the weekends or for road trips in almost 2 years. It’s a big car and very...

Real Time Chronicle of my Body Shop Experience

I'm in Greenville and about to use Caliber Luxury in Charlotte to repair where someone swiped me while they were cutting corners in a parking lot. Did Caliber arrange for the car to be towed or did Tesla or Geico? That would save me around 7 hours doing two round trips!

    Uncorking for RWD 75 (Non-D)

I called my SC today and no luck for my May 2017 S75. An interesting tidbit, my service guy was really helpful and said several times that the press says it's a software update for the 75D but it's really software and some small hardware change. He said that it's probably a large hardware change...

Model S - Two Tandem Kayaks

I haven't seen any posts about two kayaks, so here's my experience. I used the Whispbars and Yakima Jaylow carriers to carry two Tandem Perception Prescsdors. The good: Super easy to load these 65lb kayaks with just my wife and I due to the low height compared to an SUV; the trunk and trunk...

75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

I have a 196 vin May 2017 production 75. I asked about upgrading performance to the new 0-60 times and after a few days I got a response. I sent a link to an inventory car that was made prior to June that had been upgraded. My service center said they can software update 75Ds, but not 75 RWD...
