Have your watts per mile dropped due to service/update lately?

... and here I am in my P85 trying to figure out why i'm around 400wh/mile at 80MPH whereas I used to be at 350wh/mile at 90MPH. (it got cold is the answer, I know)

Blackvue 750 causing 12V battery warning?

I've had a BlackVue DR750-2CH since last October and just finally got the 12V battery warning a few weeks ago. The BlackVue doesn't use enough power to do any damage to anything. It does increase phantom draw, but more than likely the battery just happened to develop a bad cell around the time...

Is there no option to use/supercharge a US Model S in Europe

I think the simplest option may very well be to swap the charge port on the car... But even then, I'm not sure Tesla would allow it. I fixed that for you :)

    Driver's Seat extremely uncomfortable.

I'm young, and I came from a Cadillac with pretty nice seats, so I'm probably somewhat biased here. I've found that on my normal long road trips (800-1200 miles or so) every week, I usually start to get some pain in my butt after about 2 hours or so. I've found that moving around will relieve...

    What's the Right Tire Pressure?

I’ve found that 53PSI after ~30 minutes on the interstate works well. Gives me good range and pretty even tire wear, but this means my cold pressure can vary between 45PSI and 51PSI, depending on how cold it is outside. As I drive a lot, and may leave an area that’s 80F and arrive somewhere 12...

    Why Tesla Will Fail

The version of Toolbox sold to shops/owners in Massachusetts doesn’t allow things like that. The majority of normal people don’t even know it exists, like most other car manufacturers tools. I agree that most owners aren’t like me, but most owners are going to expect calls to be returned and...

    Why Tesla Will Fail

I don't consider $30 for an hour's access to the tool an unreasonable price. Most procedures i'd be doing in my driveway (coolant change, brake fluid change, etc) could be done within that hour window. It would also give me plenty of time to run the test on the HVAC system to figure out which...

    Why Tesla Will Fail

If they don't want to be asked/expected to do this (Which, they do, very often. I've watched Eric pull the logs from the car and looked over them myself), they should give us ACCESS to the tools to do it ourselves. I am more than willing to buy Tesla toolbox, but Tesla won't allow me to, so that...

    Why Tesla Will Fail

Because my car is out of warranty and I refuse to pay $125/hr for labor. WHAT I’m calling about is irrelevant. It’s that they say “Yeah, we can do that, we’ll call you back.” and they have never called me back. When I have Taken the car in for other issues (such as the leaking seals around the...

    Why Tesla Will Fail

Nashville is roughly the same, in my experience. I’ll call the store about an issue and specifically ask them to pull logs, and they never call me back. If I call Back, they never even bothered to write down the request. As such, I’ve had a heater that only works about half the time since...

Model S with 21" Wheels, Brake noise.

I've found that some runs to 100MPH and then hard braking down to 1 or 2MPH will usually make mine be quiet for a few days, but the sound usually returns. I don't really care about it, so I haven't taken it in to get the noise looked at.

Model S with 21" Wheels, Brake noise.

My car does it, but it's never bothered me. I'm used to this sound from previous cars that had very aggressive brake pads on them.

    Lower Income model S owners

Most days it's about 1 or 2 hours for daily driving. On the front and end of the week I can easily spend 12-16 hours in the car.... Being paid for every mile :)

Advice on cutting it close on range

CharePoint stations usually are pretty reliable. I haven't found a broken one yet that I wasn't expecting, as the App seems to stay pretty updated. If you do 55MPH, you could make it. Since you have AP it would be a lot easier for you to go so slowly, but I would try and find a L2 charging...

    Lower Income model S owners

I make about $70K/year base pay, and I run my budget as if I make that (even though I make more most months). I fit a used $50K Model S financed over 3 years into that, and still had money to spare. I could probably still swing it if I made $50K, but I'd likely finance a bit longer in order to...

    12 Amp Destination Charger

Just wanted to update this. This is the Fairfield Inn near the Savannah airport. I spoke with the manager, and apparently they've had the electrician out a few times to check it and fix it and he's failed to correct the issue each time. She's been in contact with the property owner and is...

    12 Amp Destination Charger

While I agree Some power is better than no power, I’ll be driving ~170 miles/day this week. It is enough to get from 60% (where the taper at the Supercharger really falls off) to 90% overnight, so I’m glad it’s here... it just seemed goofy that it’s a 215v 12amp circuit. It’s not officially...

    12 Amp Destination Charger

Found this gem at my hotel in Savannah, GA tonight... thankfully there is a Supercharger about a mile away, so I was able to fill up the battery (and the tires)... Why even bother installing two destination chargers on a 12amp circuit? Has anyone else run into dumb stuff like this?

    Anyone regretting their purchase

I've had one trip to the service center in 26K miles of driving my preowned (Not even CPO) Model S, and that was to replace the first generation driveunit that had known issues. That happened 10K miles in, and I haven't had any issues since then. Well, I did have a TPMS sensor go bad the first...

Does the 85 Battery have a SuperCharger counter and what is it?

A lot of my driving is ~80-95MPH and in cold weather, lately. My average in September was about 320wh/mile but i'm currently sitting around 430wh/mile for the last 30 days. I was pushing 600wh/mile on a trip to Asheville, NC due to snow building up on the interstate.
  24. FlyingCookie

Does the 85 Battery have a SuperCharger counter and what is it?

My car has 74,000 miles on it, and I bought it with 48,000 on it in September of last year. Of the miles i've put on it, probably 90% of my energy has come from Superchargers spread around the country. I, myserlf, have already put more than 10MWh of DCFC energy into the battery, and that's not...

Who uses the Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus'?

I do as well in cooler (20-40f) weather. I’ve found that 53PSI hot seems to give good range and mostly even treadwear.
  26. FlyingCookie

Who uses the Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus'?

The tires are easier to spin, but i'll take it for the treadlife and for the better snow performance. I haven't had any cases nearly that consistent... My drives happen over several hours (sometimes up to 14 hours in one day), so I don't have any consistency at all in my drives... I can leave...

    My 2017 S100D is silent when charging . . .

I think the difference you're seeing is due more to the difference in battery size than the difference in vehicles. Your car is quieter when charging for the same reasons it charges much faster than any of the smaller packs. The 100KWh pack has a slightly better cooling system, and 116KW is also...

Who uses the Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus'?

I just put these tires on my car about 2000 miles ago (roughly when it started getting cold) and I've noticed that my energy consumption at 80MPH has increased by about 40wh/mile. I've ensured the tires are at the proper pressure, and even on warmer (70f) days I don't seem to be getting the same...

Is my Model S the slowest Tesla made in the past two years?

You could have a P85 that is slower than the base Model 75... thankfully I bought mine used, but I’m sure some of the early buyers of the P85 aren’t loving that they could have saved 50%, received longer range, better traction and handling, and would have been just as fast...

Why Tesla pursued non rain sensor auto-wipers?

Pretty sure the cutting edge of the knife also gets removed over time as the knife gets sharpened again. Just like that material being removed as the knife is sharpened, as Tesla and everyone’s software and hardware gets better, things that used to be the cutting edge will fade away over time.

    Power Steering falling apart

Or a seal in the pump randomly failing while making a U-turn... drove my Cadillac for a week without power steering due to that. Also had a high pressure hose split open on an earlier car. It’s annoying, and can create an accident in certain situations, but losing power steering isn’t the end...

Out of curiosity, what do you hate about your Tesla?

It'd be nice if i could have a range mode that allowed the cabin heater to like... actually... heat... and the battery heater to be disabled. The windshield wipers suck on multiple levels. I really really really really really really really miss the heated steering wheel from my Cadillac, but...

    amazing balancing after 145k miles

It's very easy to balance at a high SOC, so a 2 mV difference at 90 or 100% isn't meaningful. The BMS does start the process of balancing the battery above 93% SOC, but when you start pulling energy from the cells the voltage on the weaker cells will fall faster, even if they were "balanced" at...

Free Tesla Mobile @ home door handle replacement

Makes me feel better about the potential for this failure in the future... Maybe they'll be nice to me, too. Even so, i'd never pay the $1000 knowing that I can just take the assembly apart and fix it with a little time and effort. :)

    Power Steering falling apart

Guess i'm gonna go take my car apart tomorrow... My preowned car has always had a light "purr" sound when turning the wheel quickly. I just assumed this was normal of the older racks (I hadn't noticed it in the P100DL I test drove), but now i'm wondering if there's more to it... Power steering...

    Cabin being kept warm overnight?

Probably not. Even though charging does produce heat, none of that heat will make it through the case of the battery and then the metal floor of the car and then the carpet. You MIGHT get a few watts of heat through the floor, but it won't affect temperature. The temperature sensor needs...

More aggressive (sooner) supercharge taper on latest firmware?

Looking back, it looks like 10,000 miles ago I was getting 103KW at 29%. This was at 58,000 miles. I'm now at just over 69,000 miles and 30% is 99KW for me. 43% used to be 82KW and is now 80KW. Are we really losing ~2KW at any given SOC for every 10,000 miles? Also interesting is that my car's...

More aggressive (sooner) supercharge taper on latest firmware?

I’m used to seeing 90kw at 40% as well. I’m looking at 99KW at 33% right now, so my previous data point may have been a fluke.
  45. FlyingCookie

More aggressive (sooner) supercharge taper on latest firmware?

I saw my car taper down to 90kw at 28% today... I had Been driving very very hard prior to that, though, so the battery may have already been hot. This was about 5 minutes after plugging in. In other news, a P85 at 35% SOC can pace a Mustang GT 5.0 from 60 up to about 100... twice... with some...

How do I let charging port remain opened with J1172 adopter attached?

After you connect the destination charger to another Tesla, though, it will immediately lock to that car and you won’t be able to remove it without the car being unlocked.
  47. FlyingCookie

How do I let charging port remain opened with J1172 adopter attached?

If you put the adapter in the port, it won't auto-close. I don't think it'll lock, though, so you run the risk of your adapter running away. (Though, this could have changed and the car may lock the adapter in place now)

    Can’t Charge Above 97%?

I ended up trying to charge to 100% a few days later, and saw the car charge all the way and hit my usual rated range of 263 miles. I've noticed that on cold days (below 40F) I can usually plan on the car stopping early at 97-98%. I'm assuming this is just the car trying to protect the battery...

Rear Wheel Drive in a Tesla

Snow and mud are less than fun, though snow can be helped with good winter tires... My one trek down a mud road was not fun at all, but I made it, slowly, alright. The 2nd gen traction control is awesome, and the Model 3 will have that. First gen traction control like my P85 has will let the...
