    Autopilot malfunction

This is a training defect which I see quite often, too. It appeared about two software versions back. The left turn lane should be ignored while the vehicle travels straight on. Most of this time, this is the behavior. However, if there is a vertical curve or horizontal curve in the vicinity of...

2019 Firmware Updates for AP 2.0?

It took a trip to the service center, and replace one of the repeaters. Now works great. While doing the inspection, they found a crack in the rim of the left front wheel. So probably all for the best. The no-confirmation NOA works pretty well, but occasionally does something really silly. The...

2019 Firmware Updates for AP 2.0?

Wow, what a saga. Hmmm ... 1) Seems like replacing the camera didn't fix it. 2) Whatever else he did, did fix it. 3) Let me know if the error comes back with 8.4 ? I'll call our local service center tomorrow, and see what they come up with. Thanks for the feedback.

New feature: Autosteer Stop Light Warning

It seems like the 2019.8.3 version has widespread problems on AP2.0 vehicles -- it displays the "camera visibility limited" message, and lane change, blindspot, and NOA don't work. Does anyone (including Tesla) have a solution to this problem?

2019 Firmware Updates for AP 2.0?

I have the identical problem with my S P100D AP2.0 -- seems like quite a widespread problem on AP2.0 cars. Most importantly, has anyone, including Tesla, figured out a solution to this problem?

Navigate on Autopilot is Useless (2018.42.3)

I have used NOA a number of times (4 or 5 times) in the Atlanta area, driving from up north to the airport down south over the I85, I75, and 400 interstate system, and back. V2018.42.2. It has worked faultlessly for me -- appropriate lane changes; appropriate exits; nothing scary. Perhaps I'm...

Alert tones when rolling through stop sign with AP 2.0 on 2018.21.9

I noticed yesterday for the first time a slow down on a back road on AP when aproaching a stop sign at a T junction. I commented at the the time "wow, did you see that" to the others in the car, but did not go back to retest. Not sure if it was the T junction or the stop sign... V2018.24

Testing the Tesla - update 2018.21.9

I don't mind the nags - just keep your hand draped on the wheel and the nags are not irritating at all. However, the big problem for me is that 2018.21.9 is a BIG step backwards in terms of jumpy and nervous behavior on roads that it previously drove very well. It swerves down side lanes and...

Blog NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Autopilot Crash

Thanks for the visit @benfar .Interesting conversation and drive, with a few edge cases that proved quite interesting: 1) a missed detection of a weird trailer carrying a car, stopped at a traffic light as we approached from behind. The system just missed this one completely. It is 50/50...

    Neural Networks

Drove 200 miles today in North Georgia with 2018.10.4 on winding rural roads with plenty of crests, dips, poorly marked roads etc. It is a route I've regularly driven with AP1 and prior versions of AP2. Well, hats off to@Tesla for this version. It really is a significant step forward, and makes...

    Neural Networks

Yeah, you will not regret it. I can't imagine driving without AP, even with the current limitations. I received 2018.10.4 and on my drive today (about 150 miles) the lane keeping; slow down for curves; and detecting stopped vehicles ahead were all substantially improved.

    FSD video completely fake?

Occam's Razor. The simplest explanation is: 1) Tesla is working from EAP -> FSD. Their test drivers sit behind the wheel, with hands on 'testing EAP'. 2) The others are all starting at FSD 3) Tesla lawyers interpret the requirement from CA as only applicable to FSD 4) Tesla layers say 'no...

    FSD video completely fake?

There are two separate issues here: 1) FSD or autonomous driving - a year or two away - still has a driver in pilot/copilot arrangement, and maybe save some of the 40,000 lives lost on the road in the USA each year. This is low hanging fruit that is within reach. 2) Driverless cars. This is the...

    Elon: FSD in 2020

It's a common problem in the software business: 1) Add a new feature, even a really useful one, and everyone is pleased (in very small letters) 2) Remove a feature, even a small one, and everyone is PISSED (in very big letters)! The auto wiper feature worked very well in AP1, and now that I've...

    HW2.5 capabilities

Actually, they are pretty funny! Take it easy, this is a site for enthusiasts, not a forum for proving who is right, and who is wrong. We are all disappointed in the progress on FSD and AP2 this year. We are all hopeful that EAP and FSD are around the corner. We all agree that incremental...

Poll: How often do you use AutoPilot?

I think it takes about 1,000 miles of driving to become fully comfortable with AP. I have 20,000 miles on AP1, and now 10,000 miles on AP2. Once you get used to driving WITH AP as pilot/co-pilot, then you'll never go back. But this takes much longer than a day - it is a new driving experience...

Should I buy AP 2.0, 2.5 or wait for 3.0?

I take your point, 'parity' will always be a bit subjective. However, 2017.36 (in the last two weeks) has seen a big improvement in all the irritating things that made AP2 deficient. The diving for exits may still be an issue, as I compensated for that some time back by driving in the middle...

Should I buy AP 2.0, 2.5 or wait for 3.0?

I have a MS P100D, and about 8,000 miles on AP2. I previously had a MS 90D, and did 21,000 miles on AP1. My view is this: 1) AP2 has finally reached parity with AP1. I use AP2 now in traffic; on divided urban roads; on small rural roads as well as freeway. It works really well now. 2) The...

Autopilot Weaves in lanes with tar road repairs

Yep, definitely a problem. My AP2 sees black tar lines as lane dividers. It also sees the joint between two sections of asphalt as a lane dividing marker. My expectation is that this will continue to improve in future software releases, as more data trains the system. However, the latest release...

Truck Lust is a real thing...

I traded in my S90D AP1 for a new S P100D with AP2. Only 4,000 miles on the new car, and so far, so good. No signs of Truck Lust on AP2 so far, and I have done a number of long trips. So maybe Truck Lust is only an AP1 phenomenon? By the way, love the new car. AP2 is now finally at parity with...

I have traded in my S90D (AP1) for a S P100D (AP2) a couple of weeks ago. Pretty interesting to see the difference in 'personality' between the two AP systems. Truck Lust is a real thing...

it seems likely that the object detection, including lane line detection, is done in the Mobileye processor. Truck Lust is a real thing...

My suspicion is a longitudinal shadow created by an 18 wheeler sometimes 'looks' like a line (hence the wobble). Perhaps shadows created by the bridge railings had a similar effect? Firmware 8.0

Yep, the AP1 performance does seem much improved since initial 8.0. It is tough to tell whether it is from the software update, or the HD maps have accumulated (in a mysterious way!) data which improves the experience. One even gets used to the speed limitation; the 50mph limit when passing...

    Firmware 8.0

It goes to show the need for PREDICTABILITY in autonomous driving system. So we would all be helped by an...

    Firmware 8.0

I like your theory. It may be detecting the bridge as an adjacent stopped vehicle, or maybe an artifact on the map. Or also could be part of the 'white listing of overhead radar detected objects' which Tesla said they are doing. We'll see if this improves over time, or whether it is an algorithm...

I also experienced sudden deceleration in the middle of a freeway (GA400 in North Atlanta) today. There were no reasons with regards to road conditions for the behavior. List of all P100D inventory cars

Thanks for the lists! There are 816 vehicles on the list. Sounds like a lot, until one considers: 1) There are over 200 Tesla stores. So inventory is about 4 per store. Between vehicles on the floor, and vehicles used to give demos, I would have expected MUCH higher numbers if Tesla had a lot...

It seems like AP looks up in the navigation database the status of the road. If it is defined in there as a 'major arterial road' then the AP is not limited.
