I took my friend for a ride and his Neighbor asked "why on earth did he buy a Tesla"

While I still like the rumbling sound of a performance car's engine, when I look at the car, I find myself staring at the hood and thinking, "Plugs, valves, filters, pumps, tubes, lifters, springs, etc, etc." I just see all the parts that I have been changing on ICE cars for the past half...

    Automatic braking in reverse

I don't recall if it was in park or not. I may have triggered the empty seat scenario. I will be more attentive if it occurs again.

    Automatic braking in reverse

On three occasions in the past six weeks, my Model S has come to an abrupt stop while backing up. There were no audio tones, and I did not observe any instrument panel messages. My initial impression was that the car had stopped to avoid contact with something behind, but each time, there was...

    Is rear view camera adjustable?

When my Model S was delivered last fall, the rear view camera seemed properly aligned. But recently I have noticed that when backing into a parking spot with camera looking square to curb, I get out to find car is not squarely in the space. The front driver's side corner is much closer to...

    Cold weather Supercharging rate

We just took our first road trip in the Model S 60. Went to Asheville, NC to see the Biltmore at Christmas. Wonderful display, and wonderful road trip. Lots of very smooth clear interstate to allow the AP to shine. (Even Gen 1 AP). We supercharged twice on the way out, once in Burlington...

    Traffic Cone symbol?

Newbie question. What brings up the traffic cone symbol in top left corner of rear view camera display? I'm guessing the parking sensors are sensing picking up something but it isn't close enough to give range. Tapping it brings up overhead car display , but it doesn't show any sensing clouds

What is the most amazing thing about your Tesla

As a new owner (one month), I am still learning about my car. That, in itself is rather amazing, as every other car I have owned, I felt I knew in a matter of days. What has amazed me the most is what I have found on this forum. I am amused by the people who worry about the color of their...

Letter to Mr. Musk from a 1-day old outdated Model S owner

Your car is not outdated. In fact, is well ahead of the curve of all cars on the road. But it will soon be superceded by yet another Tesla advancement. For some it takes months, for some it takes weeks. Unfortunately for you, it took one day. There is a way to avoid this in the future...

Wow - this is what it feels like to own a Tesla Model S

And as a new Tesla owner, I am excited about the announcement for another reason. I have already had the Nav system use some,,,,,,,"interesting" guidance. (Took me three blocks out of the way just to bring me back to the original road 100 yds further on to continue my trip). I am assuming the...

Wow - this is what it feels like to own a Tesla Model S

I agree. My first thought was, and still is, that I wish I was two months later. But still, I have the finest car I have ever owned, and I am happy with what I paid for it. It is nice to know that in the future (age 66 now), when I start to question my driving skills, there will be options to...

All Tesla Vehicles now being produced have full self driving hardware

No, they are not. We have them in the US as well and the signage is not at all standardized. I have been wondering about that for a while. Maybe fleet learning??

    Unveiling on Oct 17th

I think it will be a new smart phone app. One that will be highly appreciated by Tesla owners, and yet is not expected. It will be an app that looks at every tweet someone makes, then makes adjustments to the time. It will take the date on the tweet and change it to a more historically...

Which candidate is better for Tesla?

I knew this was going to go past the scope of the OP! What a year. Realty TV has come out of the little box, and into the big world. But back to the original question. HRC may or may not be good for EV, but will definitely be good for GM. Trump will change his mind 6 times, then forget...

    Will total autonomy be good?

I think Google cars are doing it. I would love to hear from someone who has ridden in one of the "driverless" taxis. It would be interesting to see how they liked the ride, and if the "standby driver" ever had to take over, not so much for safety as expediency.

    Unveiling on Oct 17th

Side question. Does anyone know when Oct 17th will come?
  18. 787steve

    Will total autonomy be good?

I agree on the desirability of total autonomy. At some point, the only people who drive cars will do so by desire, much like people who ride horses today. This will probably take place in areas out of the main flow of traffic. Perhaps only on closed tracks reserved for such activity. When...

    Will total autonomy be good?

I am somewhat amused at how many people think total autonomy is right around the corner. Some even seem to feel cheated because their Tesla isn't totally autonomous already. The nerve of Tesla to actually expect them to hold the steering wheel while driving within a few feet of drivers of...

WARNING: v8 Cabin Overheat Protection feature NOT for pets

I don't think they say seat belts or air bags are a last resort either. Somehow, I always just considered them to be just that. I didn't think I could just go around slamming into hard things with abandon. It says it will keep them safe, not keep them well, or comfortable. I would have...

WARNING: v8 Cabin Overheat Protection feature NOT for pets

In the notes, on the scales for children and pets, it references limiting outdoor activity, no that it is fatal to endure the heat itself. Many of the posts here will reference people and pets who routinely encounter temps well above those listed in these tables, with no ill effects. Surely...

I can't believe condition of my new MS at delivery

You asked me to come back in three weeks, so here is the update. Everything is still fine, with one little exception. The car has a tendency to get washed more than any car I have owned. It hasn't been out in the rain except for a couple occasions when an unexpected sprinkle caught us. Of...

Has your garage door attacked your car?

That's what I had seen so far. Seems perfect. We only had the car a few days before 8.0 installed. Closing seems to be related to distance rather than time. Once I got a message saying it would close in 20' after we paused just outside the garage for a minute. As we continued aft, it did...

Has your garage door attacked your car?

I saw a post or two saying that people had had their homelinked garage door try to decapitate their Tesla. Ours is only a couple weeks old, and Homelink is working great. But now I am a little concerned. Is this an extremely rare situation, or do I need to be worried? As always, thanks in...

    Can't Summon

Were you on a level surface? Our car is also new, just a couple weeks. I can't remember the message I got, but I think it said Summon Failed. I realized the car would summon out of the garage, but not into the garage. Reading the manual, I found that it won't work on a sloped surface. Our...

Car showed off, but all screens and music were powered on.

Noobie question here. My wife is a wee bit intimidated by our new MS. After two weeks, she has finally started to take it out on her own. Tonight she drove it home without me. When I arrived 45 minutes later I observed that though the car was unoccupied, all screens were on, music was playing...

    Model S Owners With Kids!

Just got our Brica kick protectors. The strap to go around the front seat headrest is too short. Will have to add elastic strap. That might be best anyway as ours are for grandkids, and that will make them easier to remove and install for the infrequent times we will use them. Snapping the...

    Firmware 8.0

I just checked the on board manual. I couldn't find a date, or revision number, but the info is based on the new software. It showed the updated AP display and the new voice command button on-button off setup.

    Firmware 8.0

Got the update this morning at home in my Model S 60, which we purchased one week ago. Too new to complain, still adjusting to driving in the future. But I do have a question as on MY Tesla, on the web site, the notes are still for 7.1. I assumed they would update to 8.0 once installed. Of...

    Firmware 8.0

It keeps favorites, driver profiles, etc. But you need to go to settings to turn on Auto Lane Change, and a couple other items in Driver Assist tab which reverted to off during the reboot.

    Mysterious buttons

Hmmmmm. I'm pretty sure that would leave me needing two You think I'm crazy?? I put one on the floor in front of our dog and he ran and hid in the closet. He hasn't come out for two days! Actually, that might account for the smell that I have been attributing to these things.

    Mysterious buttons

Ok. I know I could have just emailed the delivery team about this, but I thought the responses here would be more entertaining. When we looked in our gift bag, we found four small button shaped items. They look uncomfortably similar to the material the bad Terminator guys are made of. They...

    Tesla moments

Second Tesla moment in 3 days. Driving past cars lined up to buy gas, and feeling very happy to be de-iced in our new MS. Overnight, we have developed gas lines and stations out of gas due to a pipeline problem in Alabama. Feels like 1973 all over again. Only better this time.

I can't believe condition of my new MS at delivery

We took it for a full body wrap as soon as we picked it up. More money than I have put into cars previously, but we tend to keep cars a long time. We are selling my wife's 2004 Lexus RX330 with 207,000 miles. It is similar color to our midnight silver metallic, and looks great from a...

I can't believe condition of my new MS at delivery

    Tesla moments

Our first Tesla moment. Pulled into Starbucks drive in window in our two day old MS. Wife, "What's that noise?". Me, "The engine of the car behind us." Wife, "NO way!". Then the sound of silence as we drove away from thee noisy ice machine. Ah........

1 year in.. we really need better driver profiles!

On the center screen driver profile page, just above the Add New Driver soft key is a blue line "See what is saved", or something to that effect. If you select it, it will show you all the saved items.

How fast does 16kW destination charger charge?

Is this near Wrightsville? I wasn't aware that one was 8 and one was 16. Do note that there are 2 chargers at opposite ends of the parking lot but plugshare still makes it look like there are 3 chargers total. J1772 generally will charge at 16 mph. Because most in our area are 30A. Warsaw SC...

How fast does 16kW destination charger charge?

Picking up our new Model S 60 tomorrow! Planning first road trip to the Carolina coast next week. About 160 miles to destination. Could go by SuperCharger. But if we press through there are two destination chargers which look usable. One is 8kW, the other is 16kW. How long to recharge...
