BMW i3: Good for City, Bad for Highways?

You are right. I had a 2014 BMW i3 from 2014-17, and it is easily the most awful car I have driven on the highway -- kinda feels like being in a small plane flying in turbulence. However, it was surprisingly good in snow (not that you get much of that in LA, but just putting it out there).

    Tesla attacks heating up

I sometimes feel that all these concept electric cars from big makers is just a ploy to keep people interested in their brand while they are secretly hoping for Tesla to fail in the meantime.

Blog Tesla Releases Data on Utah Autopilot Crash

As plenty of others have said, Tesla's data on a driver "holding" the steering wheel is flawed. I sometimes wonder if there are more false positives and false negatives than good data for that? The first visual warning is easy to miss if your eyes are on the road and the flashing visual warning...

    Motorcycles and lane splitting

When I lived in California I would lane split only in stopped traffic. I frequently encountered bikers who would be doing 60+ mph in slow/stopped traffic and lane split at high speeds during normal/low traffic. I always thought that was absolutely irresponsible. I may have been more cautious...

    Chill Mode in Snow

Used Chill Mode this morning in a snow-rain-slush combo we are getting in upstate NY and I must say I felt much better than the normal mode. Just like a placebo perhaps, but it worked for me.

Great idea! I really hope Tesla can do this.

Yay ! We can now resume the elephant slaughter for trophies !

My point was that people need to understand this topic a bit more before coming up with solutions. I see a lot of well-meaning posts (and some insulting ones), but all this won't amount to much. I do not have a practical solution, and I don't think anyone has one. All "solutions" proposed have...

Yay ! We can now resume the elephant slaughter for trophies !

This thread makes me sad. It's not just about the elephants, but also about how well-meaning people can be so disconnected and so sold on the usual narrative around these things (e.g., corrupt countries, severe punishments, need for militarized anti-poaching, hunting economy trickle downs and...

So, when should I start thinking I've got a lemon?

So, the service manager at Mt. Kisco promised me that Enterprise would give me a "luxury" car because there are no loaners to give out (are there so many Teslas in the shop??) and here's what Enterprise had for me... Come on Tesla, if you want people to pay 100k for your cars which has...

So, when should I start thinking I've got a lemon?

Waiting for a tow truck for about 2 hours now. This has been super frustrating so far... just like how it was just about 2 weeks ago. :(

So, when should I start thinking I've got a lemon?

So, I've the Model X for less than a month (delivered on 9/22) and it's on its second trip, on a flatbed, to Mt. Kisco because the car is not drivable. Both trips are for the same issues: 1. The steering will not turn and, 2. The FWD will not open. (pictures attached) The last time it was at...

Both cars unusable at the same time…

Boom! It happened again this morning with the X and this time the FWD refuse to open although the graphic in the display shows the doors to be full open. The steering issue showed up too so Tesla is getting this towed to the service center. :(

Both cars unusable at the same time…

I think I may have (almost) unlocked a new level of Tesla karma here. Our Model S had a flat tire while parked in our local airport’s longterm parking. While I waited for a tow truck to arrive, my wife took the kids in our Model X to a nearby trampoline park. My tow truck never arrived even...

    Gun control

That was a time when the government did not possess big data surveillance, WMDs, billion dollar aircrafts or drones. You really think arming ourselves helps today for this case? It's like bringing a drawing of a knife to a gun fight or something absurd like that. Also, all this talk of anarchy...

    2017.38 f87c64d5

Perhaps someone more aware could explain better, but I believe there's a deep neural network in the car that processes data from the cameras and radars - learning about things in the process. So, if the car improves, it could be either due to a patch or a the car learning itself. I could be very...

    2017.38 f87c64d5

Seemed to be much smoother after the update and the car does not weave much in the lane like it used to before the update. However, I'm not sure if that is coincidental (i.e., car learning) or because of the update. Interestingly, it changed lanes and moved over from the middle lane to the...

"Tesla is a SCAM!!" - BMW Dealership

Here are some fun facts on the i3 (having had it for three years) that you may want to discuss with your BMW dealer: 1. BMW updated the i3 software once in the last three years, and that was because of a recall. There is a $200 fee (or something like that) if you want a software update that's...

    EV Hostility?

You should have asked him to prove his citizenship status and if he could spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. EV Hostility?

Apparently, these days people assume your political leanings based on many things, including the car you drive. This New York i3 owner (not me!) felt the need to put on a giant bumper sticker so that he/she is not confused for a liberal. It is sad that people feel the need to do this, but good...

Is it worth it - Lost Credit Card in centre console

I thought I was I was only one who lost a credit card there! I ordered a new card after I couldn't figure out how to remove the console (and I wasn't a hundred percent sure the console had eaten up my card). Interestingly, the card that I lost in the Tesla was only a few days old and had...

And here’s why I will never buy from a dealership again...

A couple of weeks ago, I was told there was a Model X for sale at our local, friendly(not!) Mercedes and BMW dealership. Picked up new MS, rear-ended the next day

My i3 was rear-ended in similar fashion and it took 5.5 months for it to come back and I had to make the lease payments during that time. Also, 1. It sucked so much to drive some loaner muscle car during that time that I ordered a Model S. 2. They shipped the i3 around to 3 different BMW...

No more supercharging included with CPOs?

Looks like the (unlimited) supercharging feature as been removed from CPO cars? I didn't check every car, but even the newer P90Ds on the pre-owned site don't have that feature listed, so I'm guessing it's gone. That is probably good news for private sellers who are looking to sell in the new...

An Update to our Supercharging Program

I think it would have been better if they said no free supercharging (or an more even more radical no supercharging access at all) within 100 miles of home? [Poll] - are you mad that your new Tesla just missed Autopilot 2.0?

I cannot understand why so many people are mad. We got what we configured/paid for, right? I was one of the first to get the refresh but I had ordered the original version with a nosecone, abd I would have been happy with either. Same thing with this new announcement. It sounds absolutely...

Picked up new MS, rear-ended the next day

First of all, I’m so sorry to read about the car. However, I’m glad that you/others are not seriously hurt. My experience from a similar case wasn’t great. My i3 was rear-ended by a large SUV (Jeep) driven by an underinsured driver. They totaled the other car in a week or so, but they took...

Daylight running light for Refreshed MS

So, it looks like at least one new refreshed MS has DRLs working properly. Is it fixed for anyone who had the problem? Confessions of an i3 owner

I've had an i3 for two years and a Model S for a little more than two weeks now. I don't think BMW does OTA updates like Tesla and I've...

Didn't get much help on the Tesla Motors forum, so re-posting the question here. Apologies to those who have already seen it there. I have a MS version 2 (in NY) and noticed today that the DRLs do not come on. The manual says there should be an option for DRL in the lights settings, but that...

How many of you are upgrading their refreshed 70kwh to a 75kwh?

I've had my refreshed MS 70 for almost a week now and I'm not missing the extra 5kWh or the 19 or so miles. There's a supercharger close to where I work and I don't drive much, so I'm not going upgrade.

Ok, who was this on HWY 880

When I lived in California I used to have a motorcycle and have done many commutes on the 880. I'm not a big fan of lane-splitting and I was one of the few who only ever use it in stopped traffic. Two reasons: 1. It is safer, and 2. That's the "law" if there was one. I've seen motorcycles do...
