    What is your plan B?

It's extremely unlikely that you will arrive at a supercharger to find all stalls down. So the plans you have made should be just fine. If you are worried, you can use a 20% buffer instead of 10%.

    Super Charger very weak.

What were your states of charge when you pulled into the supercharger? Also how cold was it? Those two factors can significantly affect charging speed.
  3. Trailblazer

    Supercharging not up to hype?

What was your state of charge when arriving at the supercharger? Fast charging speeds usually happen when you are at a low state of charge (e.g., 10%).

I would have liked to visit Custer in May with everyone else, but unfortunately my schedule would not allow. The weather was excellent on this trip, and I really enjoyed the relatively traffic-free I-90 in South Dakota with its 80 mph speed limit. I'm up to 97 superchargers now - I would have...

Over the last couple weeks, my wife and I (and dog) took our Model S on a road trip from NC to Michigan, over to Mt. Rushmore, and back. I was able to bag 25 more superchargers - I updated the spreadsheet with some help from @tes-s . Hoping to get to the century mark soon. Added: Mt. Hope WV...

I took a road trip to Mt. Rushmore this month - got to bag 25 new superchargers on the trip. I updated the spreadsheet to reflect that. Trying to get to the century mark, but still have a few to go.

    Just put deposit on 85D

Yes, all 85D cars have the ability to charge from a 110 volt outlet as well as a 220 volt outlet as long as you have the correct adapters for your UMC (mobile charger) - these should come with the car. There is no completely accurate way to get the max rated miles without doing a full charge...

Cross Country trip - things to consider?

Yes, when I went that route, I stayed at a Best Western (with destination charger) in Burkburnett, TX, which is between Denton and Childress. I think you'd really enjoy taking different routes out there versus back - mileage is basically the same.

Cross Country trip - things to consider?

I did Charlotte, NC to San Francisco and back two summers ago in my Model S. It was a fantastic experience. I did spend some time planning my overnight stops and managed to find several places with destination chargers - that saved me a charging stop on the road each time. I took I-40 on the...

    Long distance driving suggestions?

I think he meant that you should try to find hotels with destination chargers so that your car can be in the hotel parking lot charging all night and be ready to go with a full charge in the morning. With respect to the chademo adapter, I would say that it's not needed unless you know you're...

Road trip math - how fast to drive, how long to charge

Bjorn did a video on this topic a while back (using a Model S P100D in Germany) - he came up with 106mph as the optimal driving speed.

Model S range and interior update imminent?

Your post fits really well with today's revelation (just a few hours after you posted) that the 75 kwH pack is being discontinued - here's hoping that we see a new 115 kwH pack option to go along with the existing 100 kwH pack option!

Why does Model 3 need CCS/CHAdeMO adapter? This is why.

I'm all for more superchargers, but I doubt you will see any more expansion along that particular 310-mile stretch for a good while. To be fair, in that stretch there are actually 18 stalls at 3 sites (Kingsland, Savannah, and Santee) so there's no real need for people to charge for long...

First 30 days in my used 2014 P85 with 130,735 Miles

A model 3 will get more miles/hour of charging than a model S because it is a more efficient car (it can travel more miles on the same amount of energy). A model S typically gets 25-30 miles/hour of charging on a 220 volt outlet.

    First Road Trip Questions

Sounds like a great trip - I know you will enjoy it in your 100D! Not sure where you plan on spending the night(s), but you might look for hotels with destination chargers - those will save you some time as they let you skip a supercharger at the end or beginning of the day. The superchargers...

It's safe to to do this. Your HVAC will go off for a few moments, but that's really the only thing you will notice. You don't need to be in park.

86% of June Model 3s "reworked"

Maybe I'm just the exception, but I picked up my Model 3 in late June and could find no problems with it (and still no issues after 2 months). Had the same experience when picking up my Model S back in 2015.

My S85D and Tesla life at 50K miles

Bruce - I completely agree with you - can't imagine going back to an ICE vehicle now. I recently passed 50,000 miles on my 2015 S 85D and pulled the trigger on the extended warranty. I did have an issue with my main battery pack after 40,000 miles, but Tesla upgraded me to a new 90 pack for...

Should I buy now or wait for 2019 Model X?

The problem is - if they are targeting Q3 of 2019 for the refresh, it will most likely be available after that - maybe by Q1 of 2020 - at which point the federal tax credit will be expired. So I would advise you to buy now.

Tip - make the service appt ASAP

I have a June build as well - no panel gaps, no rattles, no errors showing up. So I don't think we can assume that June builds are going to be more problematic than previous builds.

    Supercharger - Charleston, SC

The Santee Supercharger is only 90 miles away - so you should easily make it there and back on a full charge with an 85 kwH battery or better. The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah also (reportedly) lets you charge if you eat in one of their restaurants.

Keeping car on while loading up the family

My standard way of keeping the car on in these situations is simply to make sure when I shut my driver's door, it's not quite all the way shut. In other words, it goes past the first "click" so that it looks shut from a distance, but it's not actually completely shut. The car still considers...

Tent production, any worries about build quality?

From what I have read and seen, the "tent" is actually a sprung structure - something that has been around for decades and is a proven way to get a building up fast. Once up, the building can last for many years with no problems. Read more at their website - Portable Buildings, Fabric...

I don't think that's a hard and fast rule. My ISA emailed me to say that I had a VIN on June 12. She then sent my VIN number on June 13, and my delivery date was originally set for July 14. Since then, it's been moved up to July 10. I am not financing so don't need it for that. I do need it...

I normally avoid extended warranties like the plague, but... I just passed 50,000 miles and pulled the trigger on the 4-year/50K ESA for my 2015 Model S. I plan on driving the car for another 50K miles, and I wanted the peace of mind.

There are two Harris Teeters in Cornelius (one on the east side of I-77 and one on the west side). Each of them are about a mile off the interstate. I'd be surprised if Tesla put a supercharger there - I searched the Mecklenburg County permit database and didn't see anything. But I would...

I just saw this and voted "no" - I am an owner but I didn't reserve a Model 3 until a couple weeks ago (Mar. 2, 2018) - so I'm interested to see if I get a configuration invitation this month or if I waited too long to reserve and won't get to "jump the line".

I have visited 50 superchargers over the past 2 years, and I have to say that I have never really felt unsafe. If I had to pick one, I would say Kingman, AZ (visited in June, 2017). It's in the parking lot of a Carl's Jr. restaurant and there were some sketchy people wandering around while I...

    Cross Country Road Trip

I did a very similar trip from Charlotte, NC to San Francisco (and back) last summer in my Model S. Hotels with destination chargers make the trip more enjoyable, so my advice would be to do some research on those before you go. I'd be interesting in checking out your planned route as well.
