All these issues are great lessons learned by Tesla and will surely benefit Model 3 and other future vehicles' production. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that once Tesla resolves an issue it rarely ever comes back.

Point taken. I would also rather have the Model Y as the first choice but I still want the Model 3. Maybe it's Tesla's strategy to sell more cars for those of us, myself included, who are on the fence between buying a sedan vs. SUV/wagon/crossover?

Why doesn't it make sense? The Model 3 is primarily targeted at the most highly successful BMW 3 Series (non-hatchback non-SUV) demographic. And the Model Y will be here soon enough to capture the rest of the market.

By purchasing the Model S you are buying a fast pass to the front of the reservation line. You should be able to get the tax credit after all, twice.

Even if the Bolt had the looks of a Cadillac ELR I still would go for the Model 3 hands down. It's a pity how GM continues to spew out mediocre EV offerings - definitely nothing close to a Tesla. In fact even their most compelling ICE cars do not appeal to me enough to make me purchase one...

I like your post but I'll have to disagree with you on the statements quoted above. I'm pissed off at GM for coming up with a $37k product that looks more like it's worth $18k, and they dare to compare it with the Model 3 (which btw costs less than that tiffin box). If GM were my only choice...

Some have already mentioned to consider either a Volt or Prius since it would satisfy your needs for long range and reducing gas consumption. If cost is a concern I'd say look for a used one. If not, you might as well go for the Model S.
