Potential new owner has a few concerns [potential purchase in belgium]

I am in the US, so I don't know what the used car market is like in Europe. My wife's cars have been new, but I have always bought used. Just something to keep in mind. Car forums tend to be very slanted towards the brand the forum is associated with. I have spent time on other forums for...

    Philly Area Car Inspection

It's been a couple years, but I got mine soon after picking up the car so you don't have to wait. I still had temporary registration at the time. I think one of the papers Tesla provided at delivery was all they needed.

    Philly Area Car Inspection

In 2018 I stayed with the car and made them aware of using it and the lift points. There weren't many Model 3s in the northern suburbs where I live. Since then I have just been using the closest places to my house. They have seen Teslas before and know how to use the key, where to find info...

    Post your biggest F&*# ups

I backed into a parking spot for an appointment, no issue there. I was smart and parked next to a landscaping endcap so the passenger side could not get a door ding. The parking lot was cleared out by the time I left, and the angle I approached at blocked the endcap, which had only grass in...

Service BLOWS - yep, you've been telling me...

Personally, I find threads like this very useful for setting expectations. Yes, it is negative in this case and I can accept that not all service centers fall into the same generalization. It does, however, reflect a reality that you could very well encounter. With what happened to me at Devon...

Service BLOWS - yep, you've been telling me...

Here is my service experience. I tried to schedule my HW3 upgrade by mobile service. It got rescheduled to my local service center. The day before the appointment I got a text that all non-tire repairs were estimated at 5+ days due to covid precautions, so I rescheduled to about a month later...

what 2nd SUV do you own right now that complement with model 3?

2014 GL450. I got it used a few years ago. We have three young kids, and the GL has a great third row big enough for even adults. The infotainment is archaic, but I use my phone. My only regret is maybe not holding out for a used 550, which for that generation were hard to come by back when...

Is there a reason for no Surround View when in reverse?

This has come up several times before. IIRC these systems are patented and additionally Tesla's cameras are not optimally placed for creating that type of overall view. I think they're too upward facing to see the ground right next to the car in all places. I also have a Mercedes with this...

How do you jack up a low model 3?

I had the same problem when my car was lowered by having the tire blow. The solution is pretty simple, just put a piece of 2x4 in front of the car and roll up on it to gain a little height. That should be enough to get a low profile jack under the puck.

Fatal Flaw with Text Support (2019.40.50.1)

Yes, same here. I also assumed it was due to RCS. Short messages were read allowed as a very long string of gibberish. I'm glad they're trying to bring new features like this, it just needs further updates. None of my texts were deleted, but I guess I'll turn the feature back off for now as...

Car won’t go into D while in Valet Mode, turned that off and it went into D

This just happened to me. I was in a garage for a few days that parks two deep and moves the cars around as needed. It had definitely been moved at least once, but when I picked it up the valet informed me he couldn't get it into drive anymore. To my surprise I couldn't get it out of park...

So is it definitive for practical purposes that AWD and P have different hardware classifications?

I'm very curious about this as well. It's unclear to me how much of an improvement this really is over the current state of the car given that they didn't update the 0-60 after the last power boost. If those of us with older AWD LR become unofficial P3- cars I will do it. If it only brings...

    "Bangs" and "Clunks" when charging?

Just discovered this yesterday, kids were jumping up and down after getting out of their car seats... Suffice it to say I was not expecting that. After they got out I gave the floor a nice open hand smack. Definitely a big metal sheet under there. I am grateful for this thread, it's rare for...

I go running and don’t take my phone: what are my options for locking/unlocking my car?

You can get an armband to hold your phone, or a wrist wallet to hold the card.

New car, not on current version, how to update?

Ours was loaded with v8 when v9 had been out for a little while. It should update pretty quickly once you have it on WiFi. I assume cars are not updated between when they leave the factory and when you take delivery, so whatever software was released to the factory at the time yours was built...

    Anyone got HW3 retrofit yet?

, My car is basically the same. I drove by cones today and no visualization. I had mobile service out a week ago for something and had tried to also request HW3, no dice. I hope i don't have to take it to an SC when the day comes.

Did you have to convince your significant other?

My wife was not all that impressed with her Mercedes SUV test drive a few years ago. She preferred a sedan. I threw out the idea of a Model 3 and within a few days she'd convinced herself. Our kids were two and four at time of delivery. The back is spacious, no hump, and they can open the...

Another Model 3 owner was able to unlock mine

My first thought was to dismiss this as I know for a fact, as others said, that Connected status does not mean the door opens. You have to be really close to it. However, you and OP have similar stories. Two separate owners parked close to each other, and both owners in range to be connected...

Poll on Model 3 Air Vents

This would be nice to have. The dual zone is not particularly effective, like if one person lowers their temperature the other side can definitely feel the air from their vent get colder. Always an issue with the wife and I. I do think the ability of the system to direct airflow where you want...

    Not one. But two flats.

I'm not an expert, but personally I'd switch it so the front and rear match. The outer diameter is roughly the same so you should be ok. We drove our Model 3 for a couple days with one winter tire. Also on our old car we blew out both tires once. At least you have a winter set to swap with...

[POLL] ELDA users, what is your experience? (Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance)

It was a very unwelcome addition for me. It is a fact of life here that potholes go a long time before being fixed, and as I weave through them in some locations it will freak out and try to make me drive into them. It also tried to push me into the left turn lane at an intersection once.

Model X with child in drivers seat allegedly injures woman

You would be surprised what kids are capable of. My son was able to open the model 3 doors by himself when he was still 2, and usually insists on opening his door and climbing into his car seat when we go somewhere. He is probably only around the 20th percentile for height, too.

I need to know about your rattles....

Wow I never realized that, I just had assumed based on the Model S. It looks like brake fluid and battery coolant are the only maintenance items. I guess I'll bring it in when i feel motivated enough to do so since i don't want to wait two years.
  24. S

I need to know about your rattles....

Ours is from October and feels solid. There is sometimes a rattle from near the emergency lights button. If I press on the area it stops. I'm kind of surprised I'm the only person mentioning it. I plan to have that, the misbehaving turn signal that a bunch of cars near our build date got, and...

Why do Teslas have such wide panel gaps compared to other cars?

I would guess it stems from rushing to market, and being willing/forced to accept the build quality coming off the line at the time. Sample of one obviously, but our Model 3 was delivered at the end of October. When I looked it over closely next to our Mercedes they are about equally good. I...

    Can’t purchase autopilot

Before the trial I had EAP available for $7,000 and FSD for additional $5,000. Once the trial started the EAP price dropped to $5,500. After the trial ended I purchased for that price. FSD option has not changed at all, it's still available to purchase for $5,000. Also I should note that I...

    Can’t purchase autopilot

My card also got this error. I deleted it and added a different one, and it worked fine. First one was a MasterCard, second a Visa if it matters at all. First card also started getting rejected at other places some times for a while after this incident.

Pixel 3 on order - Special settings needed to work as Phone Key?

Every now and then mine displays a notification to enable Bluetooth to use phone as key, even though it's already enabled. I think I only have to restart the app to fix it, so not really a big deal.

On fence choosing between Model X and Mercedes GLS

We have a '14 GL and a Model 3. I had a reservation for the MX, which was just coming out at the time, before settling on the GL. I think it depends on how much you value the third row space, because the GL is much better in that regard, and it's probably one of the best things about the...

EAP now $7000 after purchase and “price subject to change”

Yes, I'm pretty sure they've stated EAP does not require HW 3.0 upgrade, and that only those with FSD option would be entitled to it.

EAP now $7000 after purchase and “price subject to change”

Everything with our purchase was extremely smooth, except the AP pricing games are eye roll inducing. To qualify for a state rebate I removed AP to bring down the purchase price with the plan to get EAP after delivery at some point. At the time they offered it for $5500 by Sept. 24, but no car...

    Pennsylvania EV Rebate

As far as I can tell there is no income cap anymore. Previously the most populous counties were exempt anyway.

    Pennsylvania EV Rebate

I took autopilot out of my config today to get below the threshold. Interestingly the configurator told me I could get EAP after delivery for $5,500 if I did so by 9/24. Definitely makes the effort worthwhile to save $1,250, and I like the positive (laughable?) thinking that we'll have the car...

Jalopnik's "love" for all things Tesla

https://jalopnik.com/tesla-did-it-with-a-ton-of-caveats-1827285289 This is probably the negative article they are referring to in an earlier post. I feel the tone in Jalopnik depends on the author, i am fine with that. I have mixed feelings on the site, some times it's just a parade of...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar's own US site states the EPA range is 240 miles. Are you saying they posted the wrong information? If it was closer to 300 miles we would seriously consider it against a LR Model 3.

Exactly what happened to our time frame, but we are non owners in the same region.

    Model 3 RC sightings

I didn't see it mentioned yet, but these are two different cars with different interior trim. One seems more basic with piano black center cup holder and no alcantara on the door. The other has wood on part of the cup holder and alcantara on the door. Looks good. The type of stitching on the...

Model 3 external dimensions and comparison data...

Yeah, that is right in line with A4, 3 series, Lexus IS, and C-class. Even the Highlander has grown quite a bit since 2005. Yours is closer in size to the RAV4 now.

    Poll: Model 3 Dissuasion?

Ha, I guess it could come off that way without context. The X would have been for me, and ultimately I bought a GL instead. My reservation was the victim of the "production hell" that I no longer could wait on, and that the third row on the GL is a lot more spacious. The 3 is for my wife...

    Poll: Model 3 Dissuasion?

This is an irrelevant poll as members of this forum are going to be well aware of the model 3 capabilities vs. Model S. To be quite honest, anyone who considered that new information was extremely uninformed, so much so that it seems almost impossible that such a person would even be aware of...

    18 or 20 inches rims

I always thought the X looked off with the 20". The bulk of the rear was too much for the small wheels. Looks perfect with 22". Hopefully the model 3 won't be the same. The car we're replacing has low profiles. Every other year one gets blown out on a pothole, so no more small side walls...

If it all goes wrong, what will we buy?

Alternative for us would be a small SUV that can fit 3 car seats somewhat reasonably. X1 or a GLC seem to be her preference, but we haven't gone on any test drives. Nothing else electric really fits the bill in that price range.
  47. S

    Model 3 Mule Sightings

I'd be surprised if it was on the screen, you'd have to dedicate space for selector buttons which seems like a waste. The failure mode analysis would be interesting. I don't know if it's possible to even present safety critical functionally (assuming gear selection is) on that screen. The...

    Model 3 with kids

As a second car you can use pretty much anything with four doors as long as you have at most two kids. We had two sedans up until our second one was born, and even took the first on a weekend vacation in the IS250 because it had tinted rear windows. Only reason we're ditching it is that for...

Model 3 with AP 1 instead of problematic AP 2.0

It does seem strange at first to think of AP as a cheap hw option, but as others have said the cost is much more on the software side. An example is in the US you can add the parking assist package to a base Benz C300 for only $1090. You get 4 cameras and a top down view on your display...

In & out in 5 min - Sign, take your money, keys, bye, next!!! why this is a bad idea.

I would like to be able to digitally sign all of the paper work ahead of time, have all financing already done, and go straight to the car when I get there. One signature for acceptance and as much or little time as I want to go over features. That's what I envision from the 5 minutes delivery...
