This is what getting sideswiped in a Model 3 looks like

Thanks for this information. So it looks like I'm good on CVRP, federal tax credit and PG&E credit. For me the only outstanding question then is the San Joaquin Valley Drive Clean rebate (for which I have to send yearly reports as well with my insurance information, so it would be impossible to...

This was with V9 yes. Actually the first day I drove this car with V9 after getting it installed.

This is what getting sideswiped in a Model 3 looks like

My car has moved sideways a few times to try to avoid collision but usually it has been when someone has been slowly drifting into my lane. This happened way too fast I think for anyone to do anything about it. I showed CHP the footage yesterday, and they seem to think that what really...

I already have a multi-coat red Model S, so I'd likely go with something else for the M3 next time (not sure why I got MCR on both my cars). I'm not sure if the CHP issued a ticket or if they will but I'm actually going to be handing over the dashcam footage to them in a few hours. I showed...

Another note, the frunk couldn't be opened, so it was impossible to get the tow hook out without causing more damage (the fender had bent over the hood), but since the car was still drivable the tow truck driver managed to drive it up onto the bed.

I think that was me. The way I remember it was that I had just cleared my blindspot and pulled on the steering wheel to move over to the left (and basically disengaging auto steer) right before he hit. But that's just the way I remember it and brains suck at remembering these things (for...

This is what getting sideswiped in a Model 3 looks like

The right lane in the video is an exit lane. It is very common for people who are sick and tired of having been stuck in traffic to floor it in the exit lane. Traffic wasn't particularly heavy at this point in time. The driver of the pickup claims that another car hit him first (I guess maybe...

The pickup truck was completely mangled and un-drivable. I took them half an hour just getting it up on the flatbed. The driver walked away with no injuries at all though so good news all around on that front. I'm actually surprised he managed to get out of the cab on his own.

Also a note about keys. Make sure you always bring your Tesla keycard even if you always use your phone to unlock. You don't want to be handing the tow truck driver your cellphone when they are taking your car away.

More like later that night. Mostly swearing though since I'm concerned they will total the car, and it will mess up all the tax credits and other rebates that I will have to pay back (and likely not be eligible for again).

This is what getting sideswiped in a Model 3 looks like

I've been thinking about what I could have done different. I was driving on autopilot and listening to a podcast, and I wasn't monitoring my blindspot constantly. Had I known for sure that my blindspot was clear, I might have been able to get out of the way in time. I've been told that it is...

I was on autopilot, but I can't remember if I had disengaged it or not at the time of impact. As soon as I heard the squealing tires, I knew something was up and I wanted to move into the left lane just in case something was coming my way, so I was checking my blindspot before trying to do an...

Ironically I was listening to the electrek podcast where they had just discussed the crash test and in particular side impact tests. Insane wind noise from mirror after replacement

There shouldn't be much wind noise from the mirror. Before mirror replacement I never heard anything on either of my Model S's or my Model 3. The noise I'm getting right now is as loud as if the window had not been rolled up completely. If you are having noise issues you should probably have it...

Dash cam DIY install Model 3

Any concerns that this routing will interfere with the airbags? In particular the A pillar airbag and the curtains? In the model S it is best to route the rear camera cable along the floor, and pull back the A pillar trim to to put the cables in the channel behind the airbag.

    Loud electric whiny noise

I have this noise coming from my headlights, the video doesn't quite convey how loud they really are. The noise seems to vary, sometimes louder. I'm curious if anyone ended up taking the car to Tesla and what the outcome was (is it normal or not)?

Car very loud when on (buzzing/whirring sound)

None of those. After some more experimentation the noise is clearly coming from the headlights. Whenever they are on the noise starts. It is sort of hard to capture the noise due to the noise cancellation in the iPhone, but the noise sounds like in the video, just louder. Is it a deal...

Air bubbles and dirt under touchscreen display

FWIW, it was definitely just a protective plastic that probably should have been removed by the DS. If it weren't for the bubbles though I would probably never have noticed it being there.

Does Model 3 turning signal lever lockable?

They remain on but the lever itself doesn't lock into place. There is no need to hold down the lever. The signal cancels just like in any other car when you complete the turn, but you can also cancel the signal manually by short push up or down.

Car very loud when on (buzzing/whirring sound)

My Model S is almost quiet when at a stand still. At most you will hear the condenser fans, AC compressor and maybe some vacuum pumps running now and then. It is sometimes hard to tell the car is on. My Model 3 however is very loud when the car is on. In addition to the condenser fans etc, I...

    Thoughts on "classic" loaner

As someone who has driven 85,000 miles in a "classic" 85 with minimal options (only tech package) and recently added a AP2 75 (fully optioned except cold weather) to my fleet, I do appreciate a lot of the improvements that have been done, but there are a couple of things that I think are better...

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

Yes, it seems that range should not be a factor when picking between the two cars. I should probably take my new car for the autopilot (unless I need faster supercharging or more luggage space). I'm just really surprised by this. Maybe some other 85 owner on the fence about the 75 battery will...

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

Yes, Supercharging would be one reason. The other reason would be that the old 85 has an actual frunk that can be used to store luggage, while the new S75 barely has room for a chademo adapter. On the other hand, my S85 has no auto pilot of any kind.... Decisions, decisions...

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

  34. schwedisch

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

No, EVTripPlanner gives different numbers for 75D and 75, the 75D is more efficient than the 75, but not as huge a difference as between the S85 and S75.
  35. schwedisch

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

So it is possible then that charging is slightly more efficient on the S75, possibly due to higher amperage charger or different battery chemistry, so what could explain part of the difference in the EPA number. Makes sense.
  36. schwedisch

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

So that lines up with the EPA numbers at ~11%. The curious part though is that the usable battery capacity difference between the 75 and 85 is only ~7.5%, so the S75 should then have longer range than the S85. As far as accelerator response, I can't really tell any difference between my S85...

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

Well, judging by the fueleconomy.gov numbers, the 2014 S85 uses 38kWh/100 miles and the 2017 S75 uses 34kWh/100 miles, ie, the 2017 S75 is 11% more efficient than the S85. If the S75 is ~11% more efficient, 72.6kWh hours would be equivalent to ~81kWh in an S85, and remember, the S85 only has...

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

    2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

I have two Model S, one 2014 S85 and one 2017 S75 (both are RWD). I designated the S85 as my road trip car since it had a slightly larger battery and free supercharging. However, with the recent free supercharging changes, my S75 now also has free supercharging, so the choice of which car to...

Los Angeles - Las Vegas trip with Superchargers

Just my 2 cents, but I have never seen the Barstow charger full since the expansion either. I would try to avoid the Las Vegas Supercharger though, it is just not in a very good location with no amenities. I would rather stop in Primm and top up and skip the Vegas supercharger entirely.

+1 to all of this. I always make sure to have an out. If the only out I have is in front of me, I make sure I leave enough space for me to have something to move forward into. I can't control what other drivers are doing behind me, but I can always control what I have in front of me. I do...

Well, to be honest, I'm always looking for a way "out", so I had already picked my out before I had to get out of the way. Model S driver avoids crash through acceleration (dashcam video)

Yes, my car is too old to have auto pilot, so I had to get out of the way on my own, but certainly the cars acceleration and instant response is what made all the difference.
