One of those six is VW, and across all brands BEVs average 240, which Tesla beats.

Model Y LR built in Giga Austin!!

I’m going to bet that this is not a Mosel Y LR. I bet it’s a Model Y AWD with 279 miles of range.

New 2021 Model S battery cells & packs

Better thermal management and higher margins. what the other companies are doing is for marketing purposes, Tesla doesn’t need to engage in such marketing schemes.

Model Y AWD description in the source code

4416 curb weight is heavier than the existing LR AWD which is 4363. 4416lb WAS the listed mass for the LR AWD, either this mass figure is weong… or I’m disappointed …

    4680 Developments

Should have added that 828 is not divisible by 96 so voltage will be different, closest is 92s9p.

    4680 Developments

Counting the cells from images and video at gigs rodeo the 4680 structural pack is divided into four segments with 207 cells each for a total cell count of 828 cells and total cell volume 2.8% greater than the 2170 based packs. I’d hoped for a bigger volume increase.

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

Welp, this is awesome news! I’d rather pay $500 than spend a ton of time tinkering around with it.

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

This thread is to explore the feasibility of retro-fitting HEPA filters to Model Ys that were manufactured without HEPA filters standard. I don't own a Model Y but my parents have one that was manufactured in December 2020. My mom is quite sensitive to pollen and other particulate and I'd like...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

765LT and SF90 also beat 10 seconds in the quarter handily. Gives me hope that maybe the tracks will give an exemption to stock cars. Re-gen braking is kinda like a chute too

If 24 kWh per 100 miles is EPA best/reported consumption, what is typical for great, average and poor driving?

This depends on what model 3 you have. 300 is way too high for a LR RWD, SR or AWD With aero wheels even with aggressive driving. A performance on 20" tires with moderately aggressive driving will get you to 300. In AZ with LR RWD 3 on aero wheels with moderately aggressive driving I get 247...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

The voltage plus amperage plots shared by Omar clearly conflict with the power plots previously shared. Assuming the power plots are incorrect as previously speculated by (I believe) @Torque Monster that would imply >92% motor efficiency at max torque through a wide rpm range. This would be very...

Car & Driver: The Mach E is simply better than the Model Y

I'm much less positive on the Mach-E after seeing the Munro battery teardown, that is a very weak thermal control system. I've been lauding the Mach-E as a decent Tesla alternative if not road-tripping, but will have to re-think that now.
  19. LargeHamCollider

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

Not a bad post from Ritter. For what it's worth I'm also an engineer, Aerospace not automotive, but I did design the battery pack for a land speed record electric car. Note that Ritter's post is speculation and that EPA docs (at least ones involving motor power) are notoriously inaccurate. Also...
  20. LargeHamCollider

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

Eh, this is some pretty poor pontification. It's possible that the plots Omar has shown are wrong, but that's very unlikely. If they are right then 100% the battery is making 1400hp, it's right there in the plots. This would NOT show the EV is substantially less efficient than ICE, this...
  21. LargeHamCollider

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

So it looks like this is indeed electrical power to the motors not power output by the motors. It’s not surprising to me that the motors are much less efficient than normal at these super high power levels (though they should gain substantial efficiency as rpm increases if I remember the...

Any way of finding the units? If hp that's over 1150hp to the motors, if kW it's even more. Not sure what other units would be used.

M3 vs. 2022 Bolt EV vs. 2022 Bolt EUV thoughts?

If your wife won't be doing any road trips a cheap bolt should be fine. It's half the car a M3 is but I know certain ladies don't want to drive a car that's too similar to their husband's. And the bolt is a much shorter car if she likes that. If any road trips are in the future then M3 without...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

If that doesn't do it another (expensive and inconvenient) way to save 50+lb is replacing the factory glass roof with a thin plexiglass one, I'd guess it would be <100k for this mod if you want to replicate the 3D curvature of the original, less than 15k if you go with 2D bend and roll the dice...

New 2021 Model S battery cells & packs

Meh, the drive train, battery, interior, electronics/speakers/infotainment, 12V, suspension and HVAC are all new. I know "fully" could imply "every component" but autocos use the term imprecisely all the time, it's normal. (But the Tires are the same and there's still four!!!! NOT fully...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

The LR is significantly lighter (~10%) than the old P100D, and with less power fade. IIRC P100D was down to 660hp or so at the end of a quarter mile run. So power to weight could be > 10% better than the P100D at the end of the quarter mile. Pretty crazy for the “slow” version of a car.

Just in case anyone has a tinfoil chapeau around, the owner of the burned plaid was Bart Smith, an executive at Susquehanna known as the “Crypto King” who leads crypto trading. Wiki Model S Delivery Update

”full” packs in Tesla have been 96s since the original model S. Tesla makes max voltage about 4.15V at 100% SoC and 3.7V is nominal for NCA cells. So max voltage in “full” Tesla packs is 398.4V and nominal is 355.2V. plaid changes this. 450V implies 108S, the number of parallel cells will...

Model Y review after Test Drive

As others have said the 20” rims make the ride much “sportier”, they also reduce your range (a lot!), wear out quicker, are more expensive to replace and are more easily damaged. Autopilot makes road trips WAY less stressful than in other vehicles. It takes some people a while to get comfortable...
