Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Interesting comments considering that the video wasn’t really negative on the Tesla, at all.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

That checks out. Another component of this kind of discussion that I haven't seen mentioned here (but did see over on the corvette forum back then) is this old conventional wisdom saying any tire becomes directional after it's been run long enough in one direction. That didn't seem to matter...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The manual that came with my C7 Grand Sport recommended rotating tires side to side. Those were 285f/335r high performance Michelins that are marked “OUTSIDE” on the outer sidewall so you’d think they’re directional, but despite quite a bit of arguing on Internet forums, I didn’t see a single...

Let's just say I never see it happen during the daytime when these individuals would be putting "normies" in danger with their antics, and I live much closer to Mexico.

Absolutely there are plenty of people who do that on a regular basis. I see it all the time.

    Tesla S Plaid battery

I remember reading here some time ago that this was really only an issue with the 3 and Y. It's also only an issue with LFP batteries, which I don't think there are any in an S or X?

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

my wild ass guess based on nothing: I suspect the difference would come down to how they decided to manage the airflow underneath the car and through/around the wheel openings, which might not have been considered as thoroughly on the BMW. Maybe?

Discussion: All Season Vs Summer Tires

That’s the reason I didn’t try to go back and get the summer version of the ION Evo’s to replace the AS version I just got a few weeks ago. I really like how quiet these are.

And backlog matters for the stated goal, but not nearly as much for the actual goal, which is to make profit.

It’s almost as if the goal of every company is to create wealth, regardless of what they tell you their goals are.

Is the Model S worth it over the Highland M3?

I just read this thread from the beginning and I have to ask, am I the only one who test drove a highland 3 LR and a MS LR back to back and found the 3 to be the quieter car? I mean until you enable the active sound reduction in the S, but that’s headache inducing for me and for my fiancée so it...

    Ventilated seats vs. Model S/X?

I test drove the S and Highland 3 back to back. They’re similar enough that I didn’t notice a difference.

This seems pretty much right to me.
  15. Sellout

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Absolutely. I think the ultimate reason to do this is the additional publicity; they probably end up selling more cars by leaving that little bit of mystery out there to drive discussion and then a bump when the discussion goes nuts later on as we realize we had the right idea in the first...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I really don’t understand how so many people don’t see right through this. It’s 100% obvious that it’s a ludicrous badge, indicating that ludicrous mode is coming. They don’t want to say that out loud because some will choose to wait until ludicrous mode is available before they will purchase...

They absolutely lowball trade-ins, but so does everyone else. Carvana, Carmax, Tesla, normal car dealerships, etc. they all offer $10k under the real market value of the car. Every. Time.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Obviously. The thing is that OEM's don't generally seem to market their new cars against the used-market examples of their own pricier options... I mean, I thought it was rather obvious that the discussion I was responding to was around the idea that Tesla themselves are the reason we don't...

he also said that was averaged out of runs going either direction with a passenger. I can’t wait to test drive this thing. The comments he made in the podcast sound like this car would make a great dual purpose daily/fun car.

That new red is so pretty that I’m considering it even though I’m typically not a guy who likes red cars, but I have to say, Quicksilver might make the deal for me.

Hankook new iON tire, an "EV" tire (not the same as Kinergy GT)

It’s too bad I didn’t wait another week for tires. Would have been able to save $120 with that promotion. Looks like it started the day after I bought them.

The quest for the ultimate efficiency.

Wanted to follow up on this after a few more miles. The initial squirmy feeling I noticed when these tires were freshly installed has mostly disappeared. Must have been a symptom of something on the surface of the fresh tires. They’re definitely far quieter and more comfortable than the worn...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It could be ever so slightly faster on the top end, but we’re talking about a difference that’s so slight that it seems ridiculous to bank on it. You’ll see bigger differences in back to back drag strip runs in the same hour which should tell us that one isn’t faster than the other.

The quest for the ultimate efficiency.

Currently running 41 cold, same as I was running with the Michelins. I did set that myself when I got home from discount tire. I haven't tried experimenting, too lazy. Just sharing my experience, really. I’m not terribly concerned about either range or handling, but I did love the steering...

The quest for the ultimate efficiency.

I just got a set of these ION EVO AS 235/45-18 tires installed about 250 miles ago, was running Primacy MXM4’s prior. The Hankooks are quieter and much more comfortable than the worn Michelins, but I can’t say if they’re better than those Michelins were when they were new. Handling is actually...

My suspicion is that it’s either that he wants it to happen on 4/20 or that they need time to work through some supply issues with the existing new car orders before they open the floodgates with 3L orders.

The highland ones did seem like they were capacitive/haptic to me, but there was definitely a click that didn’t happen in the S. Drove them back to back and was actually kinda surprised that I couldn’t decide which one I’d buy at the time.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I can fit an S and I am not impressed by the M3P’s speed anymore. It’s probably about time I went and got myself a Plaid, but you know what stops me? The lack of buttons on the steering wheel. Capacitive touch BS makes me want the highland 3 steering wheel. I wonder if it could be retrofit into...

I do generally agree with what you’re saying. I just don’t see the $7500 credit actually coming to anyone but Tesla with the way they’ve priced the lease payments. Admittedly, I don’t have documented numbers from when I checked the lease payments estimated on the Tesla site before and after...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Well, you have literally paid for the depreciation when you hand them back the depreciated car at the end of a lease. The only way you’re winning in that sense is if you’ve somehow gotten away with paying for less depreciation than you caused.

I think some of you guys are putting a little too much weight on that non-linearity. Just because it’s not a linear relationship doesn’t make what he’s saying false. What the article actually shows is that neither of you are *wrong* You’re just focused on it from different perspectives, trying...

Unlike almost EVERY other OEM. It's just a different way of thinking. When they put the 400hp 911 S engine into a cayman in 2016, the GT division decided to market it as 385HP with a wink and nod saying "but it's Porsche horsepower" They just don't advertise once in a while numbers, they...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It's almost as if you modified the car specifically for yourself because you wanted it to be faster. OEM's literally CAN'T make that choice because they want to sell the car to the masses. It's hard at that level. I got half a second faster with a slow ICE car back in the day doing FREE...

Porsche sells six figure sports cars with incremental 0-60 improvements every year. People will buy it because it’s hard as hell for an OEM to improve a 0-60 time by more than a tenth at a time at this level.
