What Percent is Your Tesla Charged to While at Home?

Because some people like to do that. Like me, I don't care about loosing a km here or there but I do like to keep my battery in good shape. I find the subject interesting so motivated to learn more. I don't bother you about your likes and dislikes so leave me to bathe in my battery gloriousness...

What Percent is Your Tesla Charged to While at Home?

Agreed. I think it's dangerous to just take a "photoshot" of battery data at a specific time. It's better (at least from my experience), to understand how it's obtained and then to look at the data over a longer period, see its form. Then it can be treated in some way to bring out the most...

What Percent is Your Tesla Charged to While at Home?

Agreed, as you and Dr Chaos mention, I have that feeling too. Look at the database in the @eivissa battery survey: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/survey-battery-degradation-all-models-from-2019.308945/ You are already familiar with that as I recall. The graph, Daily SoC Limit v Calendar...

Wh/km (or mi) / range grossly mis-advertised, if not fraudulent... srsly.

It's hard to be very clear for range and consumption when you try to mix displayed range and kWh charged - amongst other possible errors such as capacity and phantom drain etc there are a lot of rounding errors which can make your calculation inaccurate. You might be better approaching your...

Sentry Mode not draining the battery?

You will have some "phantom drain" as mentioned above - more or less depending on the current state of the car and sometimes the season.

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

Yes thanks for the comments, I appreciate though that it's a hard coded value. As far as I can tell from my vehicle's French registration document and EU homologation it's an LG M48; "75" kWh). I've always used it (74.5) as a starting reference point for capacity comparison though (right or...

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

I have used the cable that was supplied with the OBD2 dongle (oups, "harness", I should remember my international English 🤣). What is an interrupt cable?
  9. Steve446

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

Yes agreed; in my case I'm talking about when the car is first woken up. When SMT is started I always get a mostly complete page of data immediately in for example Temps or Battery it's just that some appear and some are updated from old values ~20 seconds afterwards. I never bothered really to...

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

As supplied from SMT's e-shop Jan 2022, a Nexus Nexlink Bluetooth 5. From reviews it's middle way "high speed" between the LX lower speed and the MX+ I think you have. When the app is launched on my Galaxy S22 with the car awake it's always fast to load a complete page such as Temps or Battery...
  11. Steve446

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

I don't want to get lost in the details but sorry that's not entirely my experience! When my car has just woken up it takes a few minutes to acquire the actual current values for some of the parameters, others I agree are straight away. Yes, agreed, but that's not 1% of FPWN if you wish to...
  12. Steve446

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

Possibly. So, where is the criteria (actual situation) that makes Tesla move to a battery replacement. The rules say 70% Surely there are several criterial that provoke a battery replacement: - >70% "degradation" (how is that measured) - major cell imbalance (BMS errors?). The car in question...
  13. Steve446

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

Hmm - I think you just demonstrated how difficult it is to estimate your battery capacity with significant accuracy. It looks like your battery is an LG M48 like my car (and for @Bouba). You mention that your FPWN is 74.5 kWh (same as mine). That makes 1% battery, 0.74 kWh or thereabouts. First...

Only 3% battery degradation on M3LR (E5D battery) after +3 years and 75.000 Km!

Sounds good for that km and timeline. There are several ways of obtaining a good idea of your battery status. Regards the battery health check, there's some discussion on exactly how it works and the subsequent result you get. Refer the thread, "HV Battery Health Test Confusion" posts #10, 27...

M3 LR Wh/km (or Mile) Driving Gradients

Thanks for that suggestion. I had tried that too but it did didn't seem to work. I planned the route in the app and in the car for the Ireland route but afterwards the car tried to start the trip from my current GPS location (at home in France) and to then drive there via the UK "land bridge" /...

M3 LR Wh/km (or Mile) Driving Gradients

I'm planning a springtime road trip to Ireland end April in my M3 LR 2021 and certain routes will have quite significant gradients. It's not the Himalayas but some areas are rather isolated so this will have an impact on charger search and charging times even after regen on any downside. Whilst...

Planning a road trip to Ireland M3 Wh/km or mile and gradients

I'm planning a road trip to Ireland end April. ABRP is very good at estimating energy consumption for most of the routes I will take. However it has a few bugs on certain routes and will not always complete a circuit in remoter areas. I think it believes that in some cases there's no though...

    The sound . . .

I can't speak for the USA but in the EU (and I believe the UK) PWS (Pedestrian Warning System) at sometime previously became an expectation and then a legal requirement for EVs over the summer of 2021. That's led to a hodgepodge of EV makers programming various PWS sounds, some with wow factor...

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

Yes, and for an individual trip I also find it's very reliable right down to 0% on screen, temperature permitting. It's only after a few weeks, when the BMS gets frustrated and wanders a bit (~6-8), if you follow the low SoC principle, that the real energy value might be a little bit different...

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

Nice, thank you. You can also find battery temperature in the HV battery and HVAC coolant cct sections of service mode. The temp seems to correlate broadly with SMT, good enough for many people probably. I imagine that it all depends on where the data comes from, SMT data=BMS reporting I guess...
  21. Steve446

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

Nicely said. The energy screen is enough for an occasional update on battery capacity. However, if you want to look more deeply into the car's data, and over the whole battery operating range, then SMT becomes a more useful tool.
  22. Steve446

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

There are several ways of estimating capacity and I guess they all work according to your preferred poison. We should just remember that the data all comes from the same place though, it's just expressed in different ways then rounded: however, the more ways you express the data the better the...

    HV Battery Health Test Confusion

This seems to have happened for my car after it installed 2023.44.1 on Dec 03, 2023. That update seems to have impacted the CAC reporting 😢 . CAC has been off ever since then. I asked Amund Børsand from SMT but at the time he was waiting for that update on his car. Haven't heard anything else...

    Vampire drain again?

Thanks and that's ok. I'm just a geek over data :D Interesting comments too about the range changes and efficiency!
  26. Steve446

    Vampire drain again?

Sure it was just my curiosity. I totally agree, I've observed similar figures too. The reason I mentioned average speed is that there's nothing like a 5-10 minute section at the start or end of the drive at lower speeds which rounds down the motorway/highway real value.
  27. Steve446

    Vampire drain again?

Informative thank you. If I've understood correctly, your SoC change fits well with a previous discussion around this in one of the other battery threads: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health .
  28. Steve446

    Vampire drain again?

So, if you have that data, what was your actual average speed and Wh/mile?
  29. Steve446

    Vampire drain again?

Just a question - do you think that "capacity recovery" would be that great (4-5%). That's quite a lot of kWh. Regards my own car I have seen minor display SoC changes but nothing like 4-5% (and hardly anything at all via SMT). Did I wrongly interpret that? (you can say yes or no, I'm not...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

@conv90 and @Bouba. Here are three graphs with NFP and FRR for my M3 via SMT that I mentioned yesterday. Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

No I got the points that were raised and understand the fustration of many EV owners on this issue. You have nicely, clearly and without doubt, helped clarify those irritations with your explanation. I'm not convinced that the problem will go away anytime soon though. But - I am sure you will...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Thank you for the details @conv90 ! Doesn't seem like my car, weird that 20-60%. Not the same battery I realize. So, 158 Wh/kM similar to my M3 from your data of Nov 20. I've seen a greater impact of charging to 100% from time to time. I'll dig that graph out tomorrow.

I have some data on that and will dig it out tomorrow.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Very pragmatic. I have a couple of comments. 1) Everybody talks about using % battery instead of actual RR, I totally agree and do too. But why all this debate about EPA and WLTP range and driving down below zero screen display (with all the risks involved) etc, Honestly who cares, the real...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Thanks for the update. Yep sounds pretty much the same as my M3 (74.5 kWh FPWN). I've just done a road trip to the UK too beginning December and I get the impression that the NFP has slipped down a little bit more... To see in the next 2-3 months!

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Hi Bouba, can you give your initial max range ? It would be interesting to estimate if your FPWN is around the same as mine was. Here are the first 4 weeks from my M3 (same as your car's spec): 544 540 538 539 After 19500 kM here's my FRR: 530 529 528 530 528 529
  40. Steve446

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Your plot is interesting and nice data, particularly the biggest change in the middle left of the graph! The question is what provoked the changes? Do you have any other SMT data? I would be interested to see what happens to the graph if you, 1. Put markers every time (if and when) you dropped...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Thanks for the explanation, I understand this better now. Attached is a slide I made from my TeslaFi Battery report I made this morning. So yes you can use it to get a general idea/indication of degradation but the signal is noisy. Also it's not so good for "fleet" comparisons as my example...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

St Nazaire / Loire Atlantique / Pays de Loire seems to be around 12-13°C yearly average based on historical meterological data. Similar to that which you found. The data I have for the last couple of years (as recorded by my M3 and extracted by SMT) seems to be a bit higher than that - I suppose...

  44. Steve446

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I agree, with you. So maybe I wasn't totally clear - I was talking about real world range and not rated range.
  45. Steve446

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Maybe not by the hour (!) but; averaged out a bit, shouldn't we see that the real world range of the car will change as a function of the battery capability to provide energy at any given temperature? However, the fact that we generally don't see this effect so much in Teslas is maybe a...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

It certainly is. My interest now is to see what happens to the average of M3 cars like ours using data as seen in the TeslaFi battery report. I'm fasinated to see if there's any difference but it will take some time...
  47. Steve446

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Yes just a bit less than 3% @ 19500 kM - it varies a bit depending on whether you use NFP or kM range. Actually I think my M3 is holding up better against this crazy Breton weather than the plants in my garden 😂

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I have two EVs, a 2017 Renault Zoé R90 41 kW and a 2021 M3 LR 75 kW. Where I live in W France by the Atlantic coast, weather systems can be a significant impact on ambient air temperature from one day to the next, particularly in winter when the air temperature can change from 4-5°C to 14-15°C...
