    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

That's what mine shows, too, and I now have safety scores. Pretty sure that's what it shows for everyone.

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

Actually the statements you agree to said that the evaluation would continue as long as you have FSD beta on the car, and that if your scores got worse they'd remove the FSD privileges. So folks wanting FSD are signing up to monitoring for the foreseeable future.

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

Yes. With all the telework I'm doing now, my normal week doesn't include many days of driving, but this week I'll find an excuse to drive a little every day (and drive carefully, though it sounds like my normal driving would score pretty well except maybe for lateral acceleration. I want my...

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

It was implied that we'd need a week of good safety scores to get it. I suspect that might coincidently stretch to two weeks if they aren't ready to roll the firmware...

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

I'm not a yoke car, but my half hour drive in my Raven X this morning never registered for some reason. I just went out and did a couple more, including stopping and turning the car off away from home this time, and they worked fine and gave me scores for today. I think there may be some...

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

True. But we knew it would be from Elon's tweets. And it feels so much closer than we've ever been. I want. I want.

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

The official Tesla page on the subject says the drive must be 0.1 miles or more (down in the FAQs.) But my ~15 mile "I'm a good driver, please give me FSD" loop this morning hasn't provided a Safety Score yet. I'm thinking they're overwhelmed with data this morning and we'll be seeing them...

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

It's a pretty cool advertisement. Notably missing are any sort of numbers, anywhere. They don't actually run at the same time as the pace car on acceleration, and nothing gives any indication of how they compare. No indication of how long the distances are. But lots of cool shots of cars...

    CCS Adapter for North America

I have been told that with the voltage and current levels involved, the cutoff systems available may not be able to act quickly enough to ensure safety without the locking mechanisms.

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

He's arguing that the EA 150 kW chargers are capable of going to 800V directly. Apparently the BTC supplied cabinets that some EA sites use are capable of it.
  11. S

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

That would be interesting news if it proves to be correct. AFAIK, all 150 kW rated CCS chargers are 500V units, but I could easily have missed something.
  12. S

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

The only cars that can break 200 kW on EA chargers are the 800V cars, on the single 350 kW/1000V rated stall EA installs at each site. Ironically, if that stall isn't available or isn't working, they charge slower than other cars, having to use an onboard transformer to get battery voltage from...

    CCS Adapter for North America

I don’t think frying the car is a realistic possibility. Either it has the right hardware and the car has the right hardware and firmware to allow CCS communication between them or not. If the CCS communications work, the car sets voltages and currents just like CHAdeMO or Supercharging; if...

    CCS Adapter for North America

I don’t disagree with anything you just said. On the other hand, Tesla has been perfectly willing to spend scads of money on custom solutions when they felt it benefited them and the car. So it really all centers around what Tesla saw as important or superfluous at the time of the revision.
  15. S

    CCS Adapter for North America

They could have been building the required chips in to the chargeport electronics for some time now, or not. You’d think that they would have known both that they’d want it eventually and exactly what it needed to be ever since they started building CCS2 compatible units, so having it included...

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

Sounds great. But if the technology was actually close to mature, it should be showing up in cell phones, where those benefits are even more important and the potential profit from a better battery is greater. I haven't heard of a single one of those, so I think this tech is still pretty far...

What charger comes with the Y?

Any Tesla can be set to a scheduled start time when charging from any AC source using the center screen. There’s a departure time mode now as well, but that has been buggy in the past, including charging past the set maximum when you don’t leave sometimes. I don’t know if it has been fixed yet...

    CCS Adapter for North America

That’s true, but Type 2 is less clunky than many, and Tesla needed a solution for Europe that supported three phase charging since virtually all businesses and most homes apparently have that available and it’s much faster than single phase for a given wire size.
  19. S

    CCS Adapter for North America

EU spec S/X have never had the same charge port as US spec cars - they have a Mennekes Type 2 port instead, to take advantage of the common availability of three phase power in the EU. CCS2 in Europe reflects that, with a Type2 top half.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

Having access in the car or on the phone to real time data on the site usage or at least functionality is essential for worry free travel. Tesla has been giving us that for a couple years now. I think EA has added that feature recently? Hopefully the rest will get onboard one of these days...

Tesla needs to move to CCS in North America

Interesting. So the car has an actuator that pushes down on the lever, not something pushing a pin through a slot like some J1772 units?

Interesting. It sounds promising. I guess we'll see how it works out in a month or so.

What is it with ICE truck drivers? Is it just me.....?

Modifying the emissions systems to enable coal rolling is a federal crime that's basically never enforced. There are a few jurisdictions where rolling coal in front of an officer will result in a ticket for a local or state violation., but I'm not aware of AZ being one of them. It's been a...

Tesla needs to move to CCS in North America

I suppose I should be careful making universal statements like that, because it's hard to be sure there isn't an exception somewhere. I made that comment based on the logic I laid out here after vdiv had made a similar comment and led me to do research, and especially the content of the...

What is it with ICE truck drivers? Is it just me.....?

Given how often people ignore the law with no consequences except for the pollution they put out, clearly something else is needed, either in law or in enforcement.
  26. S

What is it with ICE truck drivers? Is it just me.....?

Tampering with emissions equipment (required to get any diesel built in the last 20 years to show even a hint of smoke) is quite illegal already, under federal law. Unfortunately there’s virtually no system for enforcement. Some areas do inspections when you register and renew your plates, but...

What is it with ICE truck drivers? Is it just me.....?

It usually isn't slow and timid drivers that provoke incidents of road rage - it's much more common for that to happen when they feel like the other driver was being aggressive around them. And yes, there are a lot of idiots on the road lately. The changed freeway environment with so many...

Tesla needs to move to CCS in North America

Not impossible, no, but significantly more effort than the EU adapter was, and they can’t just adjust the plugs on the ends of that and use it.

Tesla needs to move to CCS in North America

In addition to the points MP3Mike makes above, the US CCS1 spec has more challenging requirements than CCS2. It's not just a different shaped plug on top. J1772 locks to the car using a manually actuated lever on the charging handle (there's also a slot where the car can lock it.) The energy...

Tesla needs to move to CCS in North America

I don’t think you’ll find anyone here who is opposed to Tesla offering an adapter to allow Tesla cars to charge on CCS at their cost or a little above. If you look at the top of this thread, what the OP is suggesting is something else entirely - abandoning the current protocol entirely and...

Tesla needs to move to CCS in North America

I just planned a trip where I could have avoided using the fastest charging, most prevalent, most reliable, and least expensive charging network available if only Tesla had been willing to sell me an adapter that would allow me to spend hundreds of dollars on the adapter so I can charge slower...

FSD rewrite will go out on Oct 20 to limited beta

This is a good question, and I think a lot of people would like a clear answer. I think Tesla didn’t give a clear answer because they want to hit a specific level of maturity/stability/safety before wide rollout, and they don’t know how long that will take. I think Elon said something about...

FSD rewrite will go out on Oct 20 to limited beta

The other problem, bigger with relying on a map too much is what happens when the map doesn't match the terrain - construction, police activity, whatever. But if the car is generating its own map dynamically, that won't be an issue either.

    FSD pricing confusion

I hadn’t seen that intermediate reply in the couple posts/articles about the date change I saw. I guess it’s good that Tesla is listening to people, but I was hoping it would be something more interesting, like opening FSD up to volunteers from the general fleet, maybe. :)
  36. S

    FSD pricing confusion

Yeah, sorta. That tweet came out after the limited beta started for the lucky few, and named a later date - which was then moved a few days out by another tweet a couple days later. That shift is the part I’m speculating about. Nothing external changed in those couple days to suggest waiting...
  37. S

    FSD pricing confusion

The newer Elon tweet is Thursday, so I'd assume it will happen then. The move is interesting - not sure why that happened unless Tesla is planning to pair the price increase with some other event (firmware rollout to the fleet? New hardware on new cars? Other announcement?) that got delayed...

FSD rewrite will go out on Oct 20 to limited beta

That's pretty much the same point I was making a bit further up thread - the difference between a Level 2 system that works in all conditions and a Level 3 or 4 or even 5 system in those conditions is a business decision, not a technical boundary - the company choosing to make it a higher level...

FSD rewrite will go out on Oct 20 to limited beta

It can be level 3 or level 4 tomorrow if Tesla decides to make it such - the only difference is whether it nags for the steering wheel and who pays if there's an accident. Of course, if Tesla or anyone else decides to make it Level 3/4 too early, the increase in accidents will have serious...

    Real World Heat Pump Effect

Did you actually watch the heating mode videos linked above? They specifically include drive motor heating... Not sure what you’re trying to prove here - the data says even a single motor heat pump car has access to more cabin heating than my PTC car, and the far more common dual motor cars...
  41. S

    Real World Heat Pump Effect

If the car gets into an extreme situation where it needs the raw heating power, we’ve seen that the drive motors can each do at least 3.5 kW of stator heating, and the octovalve can pull that heat into the cabin as a base for the heat pump to work on, potentially outputting over 10 kW to the...

What is added resale value of newer year

Near the end of the first year, it might be worth several thousand dollars, decreasing progressively over time - a lot will depend on how well informed the buyers are, since Tesla is different from the rest of the industry in terms of model years.

What in the wild wild world of sports is this? Tesla LIDAR?

Without a peak under the covers or a part number, it’s nothing more than a guess. Those packages say phased array to me because of the flat, square shape. That’s exactly the geometry of a typical phased array, to get the phase timing between elements correct for beam steering. Other types of...

What in the wild wild world of sports is this? Tesla LIDAR?

Definitely a bunch of extra sensors for some reason. Those flat plates facing to the rear and a little bit out and down look like phased array radar units. The others look like cameras, but could be something else - the fixed sensor LIDAR in the new iPhone sorta looks like that, maybe.

    Charging Snake

The lone prototype video we've seen appears to store in a vertical position with the connector at the top. They could easily build a solid box around it with one side (facing the car) that opens when the snake activates if it seems necessary.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

I think Tesla still gets substantial value from the halo effects and the news stories about the performance of the upcoming upgraded S/X. I do agree that I’d rather see them spending engineering hours getting Cybertruck and Semi out sooner instead of making a modernized S/X. Once they have...

    Charging Snake

Having a level 3 or level 4 car is worth a heck of a lot on a road trip regardless of charging - no more focussing on the road for hours on end. I do think that Tesla will start rolling out an automated charging solution shortly after they make FSD available, but I really expected to see at...
