Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Those who are disappointed by the AH price action: I'm curious to know what you think the market was expecting to see today vs what we actually saw.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Substantial, iterative improvements on battery cost, efficiency and performance was my "base case" for what the market was expecting from Battery Day. That's what I saw in this presentation. Which is great! But don't see anything that should have surprised to the upside.

Really crazy action on 7/2 puts today. Somebody has bought about a million dollars worth of contracts, strikes $500 - $700, largest position $660 strike (about $700,000 worth). Additionally, volume on $200 puts is 11,525 contracts which dwarfs the previous open interest of 20.

Well, I presume that's because there are no delivery centers within 100 miles of that town. It would be a useful exercise to find the zip codes of all the delivery centers, query each one for availability and use that to gauge inventory over time. And to see how that tracks with reported...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

If this were the case one would expect to see pretty low inventory, no? I just did a search and found 24 new S, 50 new 3 and 26 new X within 25 miles of my zip code. Is this considered low? I remember looking some previous quarters where there was literally zero inventory available.

That is exactly my point. My comments were in response to another commenter suggesting that the lack of guidance update is bullish. I come in and say that "hey, that's not necessarily bullish" and everyone gets their panties in a bunch.

LOL it would be kind of silly to reaffirm guidance on a Q4 report no? Seeing as how the actual numbers for the year are known and everything. See my earlier post about the Q1 2019 letter. The whole context of this conversation is another commenter suggesting that the lack of update on guidance...

Yes, that’s kind of exactly my point.
  14. D

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Not trying to be a dick here but need to chime in. Tesla has historically used the delivery reports to reaffirm guidance. That they did not address guidance at all in yesterday’s letter is not necessarily bullish.

This is incorrect. The Fed does not currently have the authority to buy equities or index funds without congressional authorization. Recent comments by J Powell suggest the Fed is not currently seeking such authorization, but things may change rapidly.

Paper losses are still losses. Holding shares indefinitely without regard to what is happening in the world is a valid strategy. Probably the optimal one for mental health. But it begs the question of why such an investor would spend time on an active trader forum.

I have no doubt that TSLA will survive and thrive in the long term. But my impression was that the point of this forum is to discuss the many factors that might influence TSLA share price in the short, medium and long term. And to use those insights to make money. The macro situation is a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Money will indeed be destroyed. Many companies operate with slim margins and too much debt to withstand more than a quarter of sharply and unexpectedly reduced demand. They may default. Many people may lose their jobs. That scenario is no less likely as a swift and full recovery over the...

Exactly this. Price wars with the potential to destabilize major economies are not bullish. Things could get much, much uglier from here on out folks. The yield on the 10-year T Note just dipped below 0.5% which is absolutely unprecedented and indicates a titanic flight to safety. The fed...

I need to point out that this is not totally accurate. Maybe you know this, but shorting is still allowed, but only on upticks (hence "uptick rule") In other words, you can only short TSLA if the previous trade was at least a penny higher than the trade before that.

While this run has been great, 2013 was something else because options were just stupidly cheap. It took market makers a while to properly price in the volatility as TSLA had been range bound for so long. Buying calls felt like printing money. You really need to pay for options now.
