    Tesla and Zappi

I made a video about the Zappi charger, what it can do, and some things you might want to think about if using it with a Tesla. Hope it's useful for someone! Quentin

So I tried camping in the car for one night......

Well, I've been trying out Camp Mode recently and found it OK, but with limitations. At this time of the year in the UK it comes under the 'mostly better than a tent but not as good as a campervan' heading :) In case anyone's interested:

Here's how to charge with 32A commando in UK

Here's a question: I have a type-2 socket at home and was about to buy the 16A blue commando adaptor for use when travelling. Does it tell the Tesla to restrict the charge current to 16A? It occurred to me that if I bought the 32A one I would have more options at the same price, especially...

    Roof box recommendations for m3?

I've got some Seasucker roof bars, and one of the reasons I got them instead of the Tesla ones was because I could put them farther apart. Haven't really made use of them yet, but I offer them as a suggestion in case they'd be a useful option for anyone with a long roof box. The big advantage...

2021 Holiday Firmware Release - Predictions and Impressions (after release)

I wonder if Tesla gathers actual usage data from the buttons on the UI? That would be the smart thing to do. It may be that things that have been moved into a submenu are actually things that fewer people use (though that doesn't stop it being annoying for the few people who use them regularly...

Holy crap Tidal makes the audio system come ALIVE.

LOL - audiophile and you listen to music in your car? :) I guess the best sound, with no extra cost and no risk of dropouts etc, will come from my USB stick full of FLAC files ripped straight from my CDs! But I haven't discovered whether the car supports any kind of playlist formats for those...

2021 Holiday Firmware Release - Predictions and Impressions (after release)

I'm surprised to discover that I change the temperature of the cabin heating a lot. Lots of short trips with or without coats and with or without energetic activity in between, I guess! So I find I really like the split temperature displays in the bottom corners of the screen. Easier to find...

2021 Holiday Firmware Release - Predictions and Impressions (after release)

The dashcam viewer's a separate app that you reach from the little 3-dot menu at the bottom (and so you can pin it on your dock if wanted). Looks like the camera display icon but with a little red 'recording' dot.

Wiki [UK] V11 UI Changes and Features

I'm not sure how much of the FSD stuff filters down to those of us who have plain ol' basic Autopilot, but that did feel much smoother today. That's only a general impression so far, but I have a long trip in a few days' time where it may get quite a bit of use...

New update 2021.44.25 adds customizable app launcher like Model S refresh plus other major upgrades to system.

Yes, this is one of the top new features for me. When I got the car a year ago I couldn't believe how primitive the navigation system was compared to everything else I'd used in the last decade, so it's great to have it catch up with the rest of the world a bit! From my very brief tests today...

Wiki [UK] V11 UI Changes and Features

I was really keen to have this feature, but I do agree that the blind spot camera view is pretty distracting... I'm going to leave it on for a bit to see if I make use of it... It does have one big benefit for me: In the past I found it very easy to leave my turn signal going accidentally...

UK Full Self-Driving Capability v Enhanced Autopilot

PCN at supercharger Kings Lynn despite reasonable efforts

Just FYI, I got a PCN notice from the Dragonfly Hotel in King's Lynn when I charged there last week (for 18 mins). It was a dark, cold and damp night, and (not having seen this thread) I presumed that any warnings referred to the car park area rather than the charging area. There may have been...

The never-ending download! Anyone seen this?

It was still there after several days for me, so I followed n.one.one's advice, and sure enough, they'd made the update available again within a couple of hours, which fixed it for me. Thanks, all!
  20. quentinsf

The never-ending download! Anyone seen this?

Yes, and the functionality's there. The question is whether the car will think it's capable of downloading the next update, if it doesn't think it's finished with this one. And how long I would have to wait to discover that :)

The never-ending download! Anyone seen this?

I installed 2021.40 and all seems to have gone fine, but both the car and the app seem to think the download hasn't finished. This is after a few days, and after rebooting both car and phone. It's not causing any issues; my only concern is that the car may not think it's ready for the next...

Type 2 charging cable - 'Tesla button' retrofit

I normally unlock mine using a couple of clicks on my Apple Watch, but it still has to wait for things to wake up, so a button would be quicker, and I've wondered about this. I don't have a 3v feed going down my cable and I was wondering how close you actually have to be to open the port with...

    UK Model X out-of-warranty issues

To make Tesla owners feel better (perhaps!), before I had a Model 3, I had a BMW i3. At one point after the standard warranty expired, the backlight in the screen died. You can't, apparently, replace the backlight, so it required a new screen, which was just under £2000. That was when I was...

    Alternative roof rack - SeaSucker

Useful info - thanks. One thing that appeals to me is that you can, presumably, put the Seasuckers farther apart than the standard Tesla 28ins? (I gather it's 28 ins on the Model 3, at least.). Seems as if a wider separation might help stability for longer loads...

    Roof rack bar separation

Glass top of Model 3 severe crack, safe to drive?

I might be tempted to put some duck tape on the inside, or outside, or both, just to stop the jagged shards falling on me :)

    Roof rack bar separation

I'm thinking about getting a roof rack, and the sensible options seem to be either the official Tesla one or the SeaSucker Monkey bars. I'm guessing the Tesla ones are more streamlined and quieter, and the SeaSuckers more flexible - especially when it comes to ease of removal. One thing I...

    Trunk/Folded Backseat Dog Bed Option?

We did, for a while, just allow our spaniel free access to the whole trunk and folded seat area. She liked getting in through the back, but was a bit uncomfortable about having nothing to brace against as we were driving, and it did seem a bit daft devoting the majority of the space in a large...

    Granny charger options?

Back when ranges were much smaller and chargers were much scarcer, I looked at options for my first EV. But my main interest was being able to go to 16 or 32A if, on my travels, I found a commando connector that could do it, and that meant that I was looking at rather more expensive ones. But...

    4WD doesn't mean you're invincible

Mmm. Interesting... if he had let the wheels turn, he might have had enough control to steer to the right of the other car. On the other hand, he might have ended up picking up quite a lot of speed going into that junction! Or hit the other car harder. Not easy to make those kind of...

Does anyone find their Model 3 seat very uncomfortable?

I'm starting to be convinced that the more expensive the car, the less comfortable the seat! My Golf was great, the i3 not so good, but a small cushion in my lower back made it work for me. The Tesla I haven't yet had a chance to drive long distances, but it starts to become uncomfortable after...

Dash Cam issue on 2021 Model 3 LR

The thing that looks as if it would intrude the least into the central console is one of these cables: https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Degree-Compatible-MacBook-Samsung/dp/B086DP8Q9N/ref=sr_1_27_sspa as long as you have something with a socket on - like an external drive - to connect to the...

Dash Cam issue on 2021 Model 3 LR

I agree that the USB C ports in the 2021 are a bit inconvenient; they get in the way of everything. I wonder what the least-protruding right-angle adapter would be... In the meantime, I use one of these for music, which doesn't stick out too far and has USB C on one end and traditional USB 3...

Dash Cam issue on 2021 Model 3 LR

Here’s a small related gotcha I found yesterday: I went to play the music from the USB stick I had plugged in in the centre console, and there was nothing there. Instead, lots of camera footage! It turns out that when you tell the car to format the USB stick, if you have more than one plugged...

Feeling blue...[trouble finding door handle in the dark]

Ha! It’s on my own driveway! But I live on the edge of a field - not much ambient light around here. There’s even a light on the garage but it’s directly behind the car, so it illuminates the boot nicely but leaves the door handles in darkness. You’re right, though: if I follow the line of the...

What would/will you pay for heated steering wheel?

The suggestion to wear gloves isn't so good in a car that depends so much on the touchscreen! I haven't felt the need for a heated wheel in the past, but the Tesla one does seem colder, somehow. Perhaps it's the material, or perhaps I'm just doing lots of short lockdown-constrained runs in the...

Feeling blue...[trouble finding door handle in the dark]

:-) Yes, perhaps you're right. On the other hand, if I have to take my phone out to unlock, it would be much quicker just to turn on the flashlight! Unlocking on my watch is much quicker though; perhaps I'll do that. For now, it can go on the (admittedly fairly short) list of things I miss...

Sadly, no - I just went and tried. Well, yes, it turns on the interior lights and the headlights but neither of these actually help you see the doorhandles :-( Not, I'm sorry to say, as cool as my old i3 which did light up the doorhandles... and had cool blue interior LEDs until you opened the...

    Park animation. So dumb

(Yes, I agree that this UI is generally a retrograde step, though I got used to it pretty quickly.) I have a non-Tesla charger, so no button on the handle. When arriving home, when the car is still unlocked, I can just use the sensor button on the charge door to open it. When departing in the...

Feeling blue...[trouble finding door handle in the dark]

Have found a problem with my (otherwise fine) new blue Model 3 in the middle of a northern-European winter... Black de-chromed door handles on a dark blue car are really hard to find on a dark night! This was never the case on my previous cars which (a) didn't have such aerodynamically-flush...

UK mobile provider and roaming with your Tesla?

On a recent podcast I heard about a guy in the US who drove his Tesla across the Canadian border and discovered that the data SIM didn't have any roaming capabilities, so he lost his streaming services and navigation (though the maps were downloaded and so still OK). I was just wondering idly...

    Regenerative Braking - regen

I find it interesting that my i3 didn't have this issue. It was one of the few areas where it was cleverer than the Tesla: if it couldn't do regen (usually because the battery was completely full, rather than cold), it would apply the brakes when you lifted your foot off the accelerator. It...
