Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
It was always going to be a paid subscription. The trial was supposed to end awhile ago but obviously it took them longer then expected to build the back end for this service. I took a test drive in June 2018 of a long range and was told about the subscription service being around $100 a month.
Same thoughts here. I don't have an issue with $10 a month (about the same as a tablet data plan) but I would prefer a yearly fee instead of per month....
I usually charge my SR to 90% because my normal commute only uses about 30% battery but charging to 100% is not a concern at all. If you need the extra range, 100% is not an issue, otherwise 90% is a good number.
If that is the case and depending on temp, the HVAC can easily consume the remaining 9kw. To me though it is not very useful to only measure driving consumption.... Total consumption is much more useable and what I thought the system was measuring.
The kw used from my understanding should account for things like the cabin heater and other high voltage output. Not sure if it takes into account the 12v system but the 12v system is charged from the high voltage system so possibly but the 12v system should be a minimal draw. The assumption is...
I am curious to know what this is based off of? Did you actually drive 100% to 0% where the car stopped driving and then recorded 190 at 212? At 212 wh/mi you should be getting close to 236 miles assuming a 50kw battery.
Just charged to 100% yesterday. 216 miles reported. Everyone seems to be freaking out about how they have lost range..... Have you ever considered that the reading may be off? Has anyone actually drove from 100% down to 0% and recorded kw used and consumption rate? I doubt anyone has lost range...
I understand what your point is (have an SR so 220 rated miles). My point is that unless someone has recently confirmed through a real world range test or a controlled environment test that what the car is reporting in range on the battery meter is actually correct, we are all just making...
I have seen consumption rates as low as 186 wh/mi for a ~30 mile round trip...
Unfortunately I am not going to see those numbers for another 6 months or so as the temperature has dropped into the 50-60s and will continue to decline... Just did a 90.3 mile commute today, 23kw used, 254 wh/mi...
Question for everyone complaining about their "lost range"... Have any of you actually done a real world range test or are you just taking the number the car gives at 100% as hard fact? Ever stop to think that your range never decreased but the way the car calculates range did change? My SR...
Confirmed in this thread that the SR is top limited. Charging to 100% will result in a 90% physical state of charge. I charge mine to 90% for daily driving and routinely bump it to 100% whenever I feel I need that extra few miles since I know that even at a reported 100% I am only at 90% from a...
I have not tried but I was told by my SA during the order process for my SR that it would be just the difference in model cost ($3990) plus tax difference. The upgrade will make the car a complete SR+ so all features that come standard on SR+ will be included (AP included).
Not sure. My release notes indicated that LTE streaming was enabled "temporarily". I'm guessing the temporary timeframe is until they can get their system together to start accepting payments for full LTE connectivity.
V10 successfully downloaded and installed! Current software revision 32.11.1. As far as I can tell, my SR got all V10 features with no downgrades. Streaming (music and video) functions through LTE and my vehicle got the browser. No Sat maps or live traffic.
That is a good question... I have not bothered to check yet. Have to search the forum to figure out how to identify. Car was built in August so I would think it has the latest 3.0.
Interesting. So I guess CCS 1 can support up to 350kw. The CCS 2 adapter in the EU works on older Model S and X vehicles since all Model 3s have the CCS 2 as standard no? Did those vehicles get any hardware upgrades to communicate with non tesla chargers? Or is that adapter only meant to connect...
Very hard to find specific ratings but from what I have found, CCS 1 tops out at 80kw with CCS 2 at 350kw per the standard. Electrify America must be using a different connector (CCS 2) for their higher kw stations which I have yet to see any of these stations installed. That or I am not...
So you are saying that even with an adapter, because Tesla uses CAN to communicate vs PLC with the CCS that another Chademo style connector would be required? Or can the vehicle get a software update to be able to communicate?
8/19 build and had clearnace but very little. Took a chopped paint stir stick (or anything stiff but soft to not damage the paint) and pulled the corner out. Opened the door and placed the stick under the corner behind the fender and carefully applied outward pressure. Now have 3mm+ of...
Chademo requires a small computer to convert the vehicle language to the charger language (explained simply) which is why it costs $450. Again, from my understanding, the car should be able to directly communicate with a CCS1 fast charger with just software update and a simple adapter similar to...
The connector is just a mechanical connection between the charger and the car... As long as you size the connectors properly it is not difficult to re-pin the connector to adapt to the Tesla port. The hard part would be writting the software in the vehicle to properly communicate with the...
CCS 1 (what most chargers in the US support) is just a J1772 with two additinal lugs for DC high current. It should be pretty straight foward to create a CCS 1 to Tesla adapter from my understanding.
My guess is that they give everyone this "free" trial and then when their billing is ready (most likely Q4) they will tell everyone who ordered after 7/1/18 that they must pay the $100 annually to keep functionality.
It's been reported that there is a software bug in the range reading. I wouldn't read much into it. Remember that the SR has that smaller software locked battery. Degradation should be far less noticable on an SR vs an SR+. I can charge mine up to 100% and get anywhere from 215-220 range reported.
So this is just my guess after seeing these reports of music streaming over LTE.... I see the SR/SR+ cars getting most of the software features of the premium models (live traffic, streaming, video) and then within the next month or so Tesla will announce that all cars (aside from maybe S and X)...
I agree. I saw a theory in another thread that they are waiting to announce the preminum connectivity package until after end of Q3 so that they can have the revenue bump for Q4. V10 is certainly the time to release it.
If that's true then it's likely a bug IMO. Wouldn't be surprised if it stopped working all of a sudden. That or it's more proof premium connectivity is coming that we pay for.
The wife has that setup. I have been debating for awhile about being added to her plan for the additional $5 a month but haven’t had a real reason to until now.
Far as I know, wifi will only be used to download the update. Your car will receive the notification of an available update regardless if it is connected to wifi.
"Streaming Media & Browser Support Coming to all Model 3 Vehicles
To take advantage of the advanced media features in Software Version 10.0, we are also enabling browser access on all Model 3 Standard Range Plus and Standard Range vehicles. The update will also enable streaming media access to...
Right. So at the time my SR was $35k even and the SR+ was $38990 which gives a difference of $3990. I have seen though that they also want the difference in sales tax included so that might account for the $4500 price others have been given.
