Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Kind of a strange one here... curious if our electrician friends have any insight. We had some crazy high winds the other night where I live, and that sometimes leads to power outages. In this case, however, there appeared to a sizable power surge. The kind that makes a power strip go POP...

Trouble with homelink/garage door under 6.1, anyone else?

This won't solve any problems for people who have already programmed their HomeLink and are encountering issues, but if you're reprogramming and not getting the flashing headlight confirmation, make sure you're holding your remote no more than an inch from the front bumper. The illustration...

There is a 0% chance I'm letting my kids drive this thing as teenagers, for multiple reasons! @stevezzzz - interesting. On my end, I haven't noticed any difference at all in the regen. I didn't even know they had adjusted it for the D.

Traded in my S85 today for a shiny new P85D. Two headlines. 1. Tesla has gotten much, much better at making cars 2. "Insane Mode" is absolutely accurate My S85 was VIN 2600, so I definitely had an old school Tesla, if you can say such a thing about a relatively new car model. I loved driving...

    Transferring settings on trade-in

Checked with the SC today... the answer was: 1. No 2. Boy, that's a good idea. We should do that. Maybe they'll kick it upstairs to someone. Seems like it would be simple to do.

    Transferring settings on trade-in

Apologies if this was asked and answered already... couldn't find it via search. I'm trading my S in for the P85S... I'll be dropping the car at the service center and getting the new one. For those of you who've done this, did the service center offer the option of transferring your settings...

    P85D - NEW Seats Announced - Finally!!

I can confirm that P85D seats are definitely black only, at least for the time being. Initially there was also only one headliner option as well (black, natch), but they're now doing the tan headliner as well... although I'm not a fan of the two-tone interior. My current S has the tan interior...

Will you trade up to "D"?

I have an early model non-perf 85 (Jan 2013) with 19K mileage, and I'm upgrading to the P85D. Range isn't an issue for me; it's all about performance and the new hardware. I'm trading my car in to Tesla... the quote was pretty reasonable. I know there's a bit of a hit baked in to that number vs...

Tesla to Open a Store in Pasadena - and it's not even posted on their website yet!

Sadly, I have to agree with AEdennis. I live in La Cañada, and while the addition of the Van Nuys service center was a huge improvement from the West L.A. location, it would have been great to have one right near me in Old Town. Unfortunately, that spot is only suitable for a showroom... and...

    No Parts Available

No question there's a squeeze on parts. I live in Southern California, which means someone backed into my car in a parking lot and dented in my bumper a month and a half ago. New bumper finally arrived yesterday.

HPWC charging at 40 amps - (Resolved)

I had the same issue. Two things to troubleshoot. FIRST: cycle the breaker servicing your HPWC. Then try and charge at 80A. If that doesn't work... SECOND: check the dip switch settings inside the HPWC and make sure they're set for a 100A feed. If they're not, adjust them per the manual, and...

High Power Wall Charger - Tesla recommends temporarily cutting amps

Interesting. "Early Wall Connector." Are all current HPWCs "early"?

Tesla head on collision with a Honda

I must admit, I'm a little confused about this "forced over" thing. My understanding is that there are two lanes that eventually merge into one. This isn't a rarity in the world; a lot of freeway entrance ramps work this way. Two lanes that merge into one. And we've probably all encountered...

    Tire And Rim Insurance

Because I live in L.A., and because I have the 22" tires, I opted for it. I fully expect one non-reparable puncture a year. That's what I was averaging with my 335i.

Alas, new problem: Windshield Stress Fracture. Anyone else?

Ah. That makes sense. I suspect they bump up stress fractures in priority because they qualify as a safety issue. I'll check the distortion factor when I'm back in the car. I never had a problem with it before, but if it's gone now, all the better.

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Flasher, flipping the breakers did the trick. Thank you so much. Your expertise and advice is a true service to us all.

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Flasher, that just might be it. I'll try that breaker step when I get home. Thanks!

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Waidy, per my initial post, I did set the dip switches to reflect a 100 amp feed.

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

I had approx 144 miles of rated range when I plugged it in... so about 60%-ish. Service Center seemed to feel that was enough of a depletion to kick the twin chargers in.

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Apologies if this has been asked an answered... HPWC is now installed. I have the 85kw with twin chargers. I'm still only getting 40 amps. I tried manually setting the amps to 80... plugged in the HPWC, reverted to 40 amps. The HPWC is connected to a 100A breaker in a subpanel, which is fed...

You should. I'm picking my car up in an hour. New windshield has been installed.

Alas, new problem: Windshield Stress Fracture. Anyone else?

In terms of windshield inventory, there doesn't seem to be a shortage here in L.A. I brought my car in yesterday. I was given a rental, and the new windshield will likely be done at some point tomorrow.

    Random Model S sightings

Let a brown MS pass in front of me on the entrance ramp to the 210 West in Pasadena. Color looked gorgeous. It was fun to drive behind a MS for once... the car looks amazing on the road.

    Model S Software/Firmware Updates

I'm also on 4.2, and I got the update notice two days ago. I initiated the update, but got an error message that it failed. I haven't received a renewed update notice since (no little timer icon). Am I missing some way to re-initiate the update?

    Low frequency sound/air pressure sensation

You're not the only one. Far from it. There's a thread somewhere in here where a few of us discuss this. The rubber screw trick definitely helped *a lot* for me, although I still feel it from time to time. Search the forum for "buffeting" and you'll find the old posts. And rest assured, you're...

Phone: person I call cannot hear me

This is most likely an issue with your phone, and not the car. My wife's iPhone began exhibiting the same behavior, regardless of whether she was bluetoothing in her car or mine. Happily, it was under warranty, and Verizon promptly sent us a replacement.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

I'd love to hear how you aligned the headlights. I've had a few people flash their brights at me when mine weren't on-- usually a sign that my headlights are too high up in other drivers' eyes...

UMC - charging cable not locked

I've gotten this error message a couple of times... wondering if anyone else has experienced it. I plug the UMC into my car, either on its own in my garage, or with the 1772 adapter at a public station. The cable makes the "locking" click, and the car starts charging. However: 1. The flashing...

A Different Approach to Valet Instructions

I went to the Palm in Los Angeles a couple of nights ago, and thought about bringing these instructions, but forgot. When I pulled into the valet, I asked the attendant if he had parked a Model S before. "Oh, yeah," he said. "That's my specialty. I've parked about twenty of them so far."...

Owners delivery stories, photos and first impressions

Just to follow up, Vince at the LA service center confirmed that my UMC was bad-- very relieved. Obviously, that was the most favorable conclusion. Tesla will be Fedexing me a new one. So far, I'm a very satisfied customer. Also, as a point of interest, I asked if they could force update my...

Owners delivery stories, photos and first impressions

Okay, just received my car... VIN 2600. Thrilled. There were really only two issues (well, three if you include "condensation in one of the tail lights," but I'm not particularly concerned about that sort of thing. ISSUE 1: The buffeting noise described elsewhere in this forum. I solved it to...

Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

If all cars were like mine, I'd completely agree. However, if you subtract all non-85kw cars and all non-active air suspension cars, it appears it does. I say appears, because until the car is in my garage, we're all guessing. He did seem awfully confident, though.

Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

I just spoke with a rep, who said my car (#5714 non-performance 85kw) should be ready for delivery by end of year or very early January. Based on some of the things I've read in here, I asked him a few questions. His responses (some of which you already knew, no doubt): 1. They are only...
