Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Yeah, I totally agree!
Like “buy FSD before August 16th, 2019, when we will increase the price!”.
“Your car will pick you up anywhere in the parking lot, really. For the low, low price of $6000. Buy it now!!!!!!”
I agree with your point but given how mature iPhones have gotten, maybe iPhones aren’t the greatest comparison.
I have an X from 2017 and that is still so good that I won’t upgrade until maybe 2021. I wish my P3 would stay that up to date over the years.
It’s great the way it is. I’m not missing anything (I had the seats reupholstered).
I wish I could complete disable AP (including the visualization) until it’s working better (I cannot stand the dancing cars - it’s neither cute nor acceptable but taints the whole product for me because it’s a...
You seem to be under the impression that Musk is doing the actual work.
The main difference between his past successes and the FSD flop is that his personal value add (money and ability to motivate people) worked with development as in engineering something based on existing science whereas...
If it’s that minor that only you can spot it, I’d let it go. I’ve seen too many “little fixes” morph into major repairs because the repair process itself is risky.
No, that’s not what they plaster on their website (marketing) but stated in the documentation that is presented after they already reeled you in.
I just went to the Tesla website on my cellphone and it still markets the Model 3 Autopilot as an effectively future Robotaxi (not using this word...
I think it performs like a drunk baby with the visual acuity of a short sighted 100+ year old, the ambition of an enthusiastic teenager and the brain of an ant.
I think that’s a great example why I lost confidence in AP. It’s 2019 and this is far from a corner case. I’m hoping V10 will show significant improvements.
I disagree. If it isn’t safe (!) to use on non divided limited access roads then it should be disabled. It’s not a video game like some on TMC seem to think it is.
LOL. No, it’s not that easy. If your fancy driving automation can’t handle a HUGE percentage of roads, then you can’t advertise it like Tesla does, add fine print in the manual that it really only works on the simplest traffic conditions on a small subset of our road network and expect that...
Well, the car knows what road it is on. So it’s not just user error but irresponsible programming by Tesla. Why doesn’t the car disable AP on roads that it cannot handle?
I find that the Model 3 is pretty well baked. Super crisp acceleration for example. Well done range. Sharp looks.
AP, well, nothing is perfect. That seems too raw.
Fernand, you seem to be taking critique of Tesla’s AP very personally. Your whataboutisms don’t change the impression that others have of Tesla’s AP and none of the criticism is meant to offend people like you. It comes with the territory if Tesla promises sci-fi abilities and then releases some...
For me personally, the main issue that I have with AP is that I don’t trust the current vision system to the extent that I would feel comfortable going 70mph.
I always feel like I need to be prepared to step on the accelerator to avoid someone rear ending me in case it phantom brakes out of the...
Just don’t flirt with sexY Heather when you first see her on a highway. Spurned Nicky will happily crash drive you into the next fire truck for revenge.
The H.265 encoder produced corrupted video files so Tesla changed that to H.264 for HW3 also. Mine is HW3 and used to write H.265 files (that were often glitchy).
Oh please. Go jump in a time machine back to 2016 and tell that to Musk so that he shuts up about FSD. And while you are at it ask the TMC forum programmers to include a “you stupid” button that you apparently want to have.
I never said it was an easy problem to solve. My point is that this is...
I don’t think you got my point.
You seem to assume a simple linear relationship between video stream rate and data rate into the storage media.
It’s not that simple unless the total system (the whole stack from user level app code all the way to the media controller driver, firmware and even...
Yeah, I didn’t clarify that I was talking about the latest iteration of Tesla’s hardware. Which was a mistake when commenting on a thread about an AP1 car crash.
My point was that several years and significant HW improvements after AP1, stationary object detection is still not working well...
Seriously? That explanation may make sense from a technical point of view but it’s a testimony what a travesty all the talk from Musk about FSD is if this late in the game it is apparently a huge problem to detect MASSIVE stationary objects?
And people excuse this? Wow, this is unbelievable. So...
What I find really weird is that Tesla doesn’t apply “common sense” logic to what the UI presents to the user.
It seems that the UI simply displays whatever the NN identifies above some thresholds. And that multiple times per second, giving us these freaky visualizations. The car’s sometimes...
It’s a nice touch how around second 30 the SUV to the left disappeared for a while only to teleport back into the lane as a pickup truck.
And how at second 37 the vehicle in the lane that EAP wants to change to disappears suddenly and then reappears as a red obstacle.
How can that even pass...
Yeah. But the difference is that the BEV and the rocket are real and the BEV is excellent with its core functionality. Don’t know about their rocket as I don’t follow SpaceX.
I doubt Tesla would still exist if they sold the BEV like they sell FSD.
Then the BEV would still run on lead acid...
What’s with this “haters” argument? This forum has a share of people who throw this word at anyone who criticizes something.
Look, I personally am kinda disappointed that Porsche decided to price this in super car territory. I don’t hate them for this. I understand the reasons.
This car will...
Nobody here criticizes Tesla’s accomplishments in the EV space. And many if not most on this forum spent quite a bit of money on a Tesla car.
You seem to be one of those interesting enigmas who don’t mind spending $6000 on a set of lies. That’s great for you.
Personally I am puzzled why Tesla...
I find this to be very worrisome and disappointing.
That machine vision can’t figure out if there is a massive stationary object in the path.
In my many decades of driving I’ve had my share of situations where the car in front of me abruptly changed lanes because of a stationary obstacle.
And...
The one reason why I don’t agree with this is that in the ICE world, getting the performance of a $180k Taycan requires a lot of expensive improvements to the engine, especially if it must be reliable.
Therefore this comparison is purely based on marketing.
In the EV world, performance is...
The Panamera starts at $87k, the Taycan at $151k.
It’s a totally different class.
The Taycan starts $60k higher than a 911.
I don’t think it’s “wrong” generally to price it that high but it tells you something about how serious they are with EVs. I do think that the range (miles) is not...
Porsche’s pricing is about $80k too high to be a competitive EV. They position it as a niche super car instead. Tells you something how serious VAG is with their EV strategy.
I have an i3. It’s the ideal city car. Nimble, great visibility, adequate range.
It’ll “work” on a highway but it’s squirrely, loses all punch above 80mph and the comparatively poor range gets totally slaughtered at highway speeds.
