    Off-grid solar car charging

Victron are indoor use only. So if it ends up on a trailer I need a really big NEMA weather resistant box that has the ability to vent/blow out the hot air. At least 36"x24"x18". And probably kludge together some type spring/tensioned contraption to dampen the road bumps. Ideas? I really don't...

    Off-grid solar car charging

Yes, sadly no rad-hard cells. The $0.54/W I paid for the Silfab panels (US made - apparently there are still a handful of US suppliers) is "slightly" more cost effective than the III-V cells used for satellites. (The four- and five-junction cells next generation technologies we make surpass the...

    Off-grid solar car charging

I recently decided to make an off-grid "portable" solar car charger and finished my project yesterday. I designed the system to charge my car during the day based on my daily kWh usage (I typically use 10kWh/day and work from home a good portion of the day). The system has a some (required)...

Solution for saggy roof sunshade (for some)

In my old Model 3, on long trips I let the kids watch a movie on a cheap tablet that was mounted to the roof glass with a Sosche suction cup mount. It worked and stuck flawlessly for two years. However, I resorted to mounting the suction cup on the front-most portion of the roof, slightly...

Adding a lot of plastic to my 3-row Model Y (car seats, protective films, more)

And...a few days after my Y arrival, I left my old Model 3 in the street for the first time. My father was coming the following day to buy it and pick it up. I was planning on detailing it that evening but something came up and it ended up sitting in the street overnight. I woke up to the...

Adding a lot of plastic to my 3-row Model Y (car seats, protective films, more)

I've had my 2021 Model Y for about a week and I've been busy buying plastic. My build is near perfect, but arrived with lots of dirt/grease spots on the seats. Overall it feels so much tighter and quieter than the 2019 Model 3 it replaced. Wind noise is dramatically lower. Suspension is quieter...

Remove passenger side 2nd row seat in 3 row Y?

I submitted a service request essentially asking if the car would brick if I disconnected the seat harness. One would of course expect that it wouldn't, but Daerik bricked his car replacing the center console so who knows.

Remove passenger side 2nd row seat in 3 row Y?

I would like to try and remove the passenger side 2nd row seat in my 3 row Y. Turns out it's not that easy to pull up and out of the way to get in the 3rd row - especially for a kid. Has anyone attempted to remove this seat? Unscrewing the bolts for the rails is a no brainer - but I'm...

    7-seat config waiting room

Greatly disappointed my performance order on hold for 7-seats will not be fulfilled (at least yet?). Come on! Is it the lower suspension? That is the only thing I can think of. *privileged problem*

    7-seat config waiting room

Out of curiosity, I called up sales, was routed to Colorado, and asked if I could order a 3rd row. She said sure, I'll just put in a note to make you "unmatchable" because you're waiting for a 3rd row. No more checking the website every day!

What floor jack to use with pucks?

I use this (yes scary) but I would never crawl under the car w/o a (non harbor freight) jack stand. You can also drive up onto some wood planks and then use a non-low profile jack. 3 ton Low Profile Professional Rapid Pump® Floor Jack - Orange

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

Great posts Alan. (I'm only through page 5 out of 11 now!) However, I do believe I've read that rebalancing occurs below 90% for 3's & Y's. For what it is worth, I read page 1 of these posts a bit ago as in (a) don't always charge to the same level and get some sleeps at different levels, and...

Model Y Driver Door Alignment DIY Help

I fixed my M3 driver door a few weeks after arrival. You can adjust the loop/latch bolted to the main body (probably isn't your problem) or adjust the two hinge points. You need to be super careful and only loosen the bolts a tiny bit - just enough to let the door move with a good tug, twist, or...

This can't be good, front motor issue?

14k miles, long range AWD Mobile service appt scheduled. I started noticing a knocking noise while going over bumps at slow speeds while the accelerator pedal is not pressed (regen braking). I lifted the vehicle and I think that I reproduced the noise by oscillating the front wheel back and...

    Front drivetrain noise, normal?

UPDATE I should have put in original post that of course it wasn't the lug nuts. But I did some more poking around. This time rocking the car back and forth to see if I could hear the noise. No noise while rocking, but after the car stopped oscillating, I could hear the knocking...

    Front drivetrain noise, normal?

2019, 13k miles, dual motor. I've been noticing that when I go over speed bumps or other bumps very slow, I hear some knocking noise coming from the front. Don't really know if it has been there all along as I have more recently been needing to go through a parking lot with speed bumps. I...

Charging level at 80% & Long Roadtrip

80/20 rule. Try to stay between 80% and 20%. Above 80% is OK, but discharge soon (despite there being some apparent magic in cell re-balancing at 90% and holding there for 24hrs or so - do so every few months). Try very hard to not go considerably below 20%.

Gen 3 Wall Connector 3 red blinks fault code

When I got my Model 3, I had issues with the particular adapter I was using (14-30). This was about a year after release of the 3 and the engineers were very interested to see the issues. They sent me new adapter(s) and they fixed the issue. Fortunately I could still charge with the normal 120V...

Are Service Centers Correcting Door Hinges with Hammers and Chisels?

I fixed my front driver door on my model 3 about a year ago. It was off where the chrome trim of the front and rear door meet by about 1 cm. It wasn't closing very well either. After watching an ancient youtube video on door alignment, I first attempted to only adjust the loop that the door...

Model 3 Regeneration vs. Temperature & Accessory Consumption
