I have read several posts about problems charging at Las Vegas Strip locations, either due to overuse, difficulty in finding the chargers or other issues. An alternative is to charge in downtown Las Vegas at the County building, 500 South Grand Central Parkway. There are 6 free ChargePoint chargers, just to the south of the large brick office building. The ChargePoint website map has the correct location. I tried it today. There was nobody there, and the charger was running at the typical 30A, 18 mph rate. Not fast, but no worse than what's currently available elsewhere. There's lots to do downtown, and it's a nice change of pace from the Strip. Amenities include:
- Las Vegas Premium Outlets, just across the street to the west.
- Downtown casinos, about a 10-15 minute walk, or bus service to Fremont Street from Grand Central Pkwy.
- Lunch or dinner at Triple George (N. Third Street) or Le Thai (Fremont east of LV Blvd.).
- The Mob Museum, at the end of N. Third Street.
- Buffet at Main Street Station or Golden Nugget.
- Lots of other buffets and restaurants, mostly in the downtown casinos.
- Zip line under the Fremont canopy.
- The Fremont St. Experience light show.
- A real concert, play or musical at the Performing Arts Center, not a shortened Strip version. Within walking distance to the north.
- Fewer rolling shootouts than on the Strip.
- If you happened to be arrested on your vacation, park before being booked into the downtown Clark County Detention Center! Once you make bail, you should have a full charge to head for the border.
