    Long time lurker, 1st Accident

Way more often than not, it will be blamed on the car that does the rear ending. Their fault for not keeping distance. It is what it is...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Yeah and none of this 0-60 weak sauce. We need a good romp to 130mph to get a 1/4th time! 😁

    IONIQ 5 N vs Model 3 Ludacris | Nürburgring

Agree but the M3P will more likely will be the stoplight champion. Its going to easily outsell the 5N as its also much cheaper (which may be a great selling point for the 5N). I bet if there was no EV6 GT or 5N, Tesla may not have offered a more powerful M3P. I'm happy that there is...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

SoC doesn't impact 0-60 near as much as the quarter mile. All of these anecdotes driving the car are nice to read but really can't put weight on them until we get some instrumented tests. At this point, I'm just hoping they improved the 60-120mph a bit more given the battery limitations. Also...

Agree. The 19s would definitely be my preference

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

There is about a 0.2s difference to 60 in the US spec M3P between 90% and 30% It’s been tested before by Bjorn. Look at the results at the 7:50 mark. After that, the power falls off more noticeably with lower SoC.
  7. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It’s probably battery output limited at the low SoCs. Maybe not much faster than current model below 50% SoC? Won’t make much of a performance difference to me if that’s the case.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I'm upgrading after a year. Let them get the bugs out first. Agree that the new car is very nice outside of the increased power. The improved suspension, insulation, build quality and ventilated seats are alone worth the upgrade for me. The power increase and static price are just icing on the cake.

Sounds like even the gimpy battery feels fast. 😁

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Nope. He had to take a side trip to the track and get a time slip to get a reliable measurement of speed. None of this draggy nonsense.
  11. A

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Those are NOT DRAGGYS! They are digital timeslips supplied by the drag strip! Not every drag strip uses actual paper these days! I just posted a slip and you keep asking for slips...why is this so hard to understand? Not going to argue any further but most people with a long-range Model S...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

What are you talking about? The Youtube video poster clearly showed every digital timeslip he ran. Example below. He's clearly running 10.85 at 128mph. He has multiple timeslips he shows throughout the video and its similar times. Drag Times clearly runs the same times as this guy. You are...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Please. A simple search on Youtube yields multiple instances of it trapping around 129mph in the 10.8 range. It will runaway from the M3P because it simply has a more capable battery.
  14. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Model S isn't as nimble or fun for sure. I really like how relatively light the M3P feels. If I were to go Model S...I'd have to splurge for the Plaid as that at least has a unique parlor trick of going to warp speed. Also, the Model S doesn't have much more passenger space than a Model 3...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

No one outside of Tesla matter though. If Tesla never named it Ludicrous, its simply not Ludicrous.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Go peruse the Model S subforums and their drag times. Its there for everyone to see. Model S LR is not a slow car and I doubt the new Model 3 Performance is as fast after 60mph. Helps to have a much better battery in the LR.

Help me decide Model 3P or Model YP

Trouble is the new Model 3 is a much better car than the Model Y. Quieter, better handling, better ride quality, better seats etc... The new Model 3 Performance is a much much much better performance car than the MYP with the upgraded motors and adaptive suspension. If you don't need the...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

LR is much much faster after 60 mph. I saw a timeslip in the 10.6s on the S forum. Damn fast.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Definitely had higher expectations...but also thought the car would be significantly more expensive. Given it's low price point, I think the car is a great value. There is also room for another higher level trim actually if Tesla wanted it. I'm excited to see the actual performance results...

Ceramic is limited in protection. I got my whole car PPFed and it’s scratch proof 😁

Long-Range M3 or Long-Range MY for local driving, no commute

If you like driving dynamics and qualify for the $7500 tax credit, then I'd get a Performance Model 3. Its cheaper than the long-range and will probably drive like its on rails.

There is officially no ludicrous badge. There is either the Plaid or there is Performance.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Yeah but it has an 8 speed virtual tranny and yours is only a 1 speed reduction gear. 😁 It will beat the current M3P in the quarter though and highway pulls will be better. I think I saw a range test on it and it got low 217 miles at 70 mph. Thats not great given our current M3P with 20s...

Not really yet. Everyone is waiting for these to get into the population first. Hopefully, we will see them in a month.

Help me decide Model 3P or Model YP

Performance Y drives great and nothing wrong with a fast SUV. For corners, the M3P is much better though as it actually feels pretty light on its feet (especially for an EV). I'm not that much of a fan of the RWD Model 3...i think it just doesn't have enough punch.
  27. A

    Chill Mode usage

Chill mode? I don't think Performance models have chill mode... 😁

    Beware pot holes

There is a marketplace right here in the forums. I sold my 20s here pretty easily.
  29. A

    Beware pot holes

I guess wait until the actual car is in people’s hands. I bet T-Sportline will confirm whether they fit or not pretty quickly.
  30. A

    Beware pot holes

18s will fit. Go to T-Sportline and they offer 18s that fit the legacy M3Ps with the bigger brakes too. I switched over awhile back and couldn't be happier. I bet the new 20s will fetch a pretty good price too being forged.
  31. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I bent my 18 inch wheel over a pothole so if the pothole is bad enough, nothing can be done. i had multiple pinched tires on my 20s that required fixing and the 18s are definitely way more resilient to that. Agree that 19s do look better than the 18s though.
  32. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The 20s are forged now so maybe a bit more resistant to damage. Of course tires will be the same susceptibility to damage
  33. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Minimal benefit to that though. Rears will wear out faster due to the rear motors now being significantly more powerful. Main benefit of rotating is front to back to even out the wear. I bet I can wear those suckers out in 10k miles 😁
  34. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'm just happy there isn't really a launch mode needed to access the power. It's still simple and usable anywhere vs getting into some sort of cheetah stance.
  35. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The Performance have different seats and MBL said the seats were pretty good on ventilation and go all the way to the neck. Hoping the seats are better than what you experienced.
  36. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I like the badge. I think it’s quirky and something a lot of Tesla (and spaceball) enthusiasts enjoy. Better than the red underline in the legacy model.
  37. A

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I see way more blues than reds. I bet statistically, red is the most rare simply due to cost.

Discussion: All Season Vs Summer Tires

There is no doubt the summers are much higher performance and feel better in spirited driving. I only drive spiritedly maybe 5% of the time. Most of the time, I'm going through traffic or driving at a steady rate on the highway. Seems silly for me to pay for nice summers when they get used up...
  39. A

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Did the venting actually work well? Also, Kyle from Out of Spec sat in them and he was wider than the bolsters :D How is the padding compared to an non-performance model?
  40. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I went through my summers in about 12k miles so i switched to A/S. I'm getting about 20k miles from these so thats a benefit. Noise? Incrementally more noise in my super noisy 2019 model 3 doesn't make a difference. Its all deafening to me anyway 😁
  41. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I don't need ultimate speed either. It sounds like the new M3P is just a more fun car all around and seems highly RWD biased with the new motors and very tossable. Will definitely test drive both and see which one I like more.
  42. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

To be fair, no one from Tesla ever said that the badge indicated Ludicrous. It could just be their new "Performance" badge.
  43. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I am waiting a year to purchase this or a Ludicrous. I am always contemplating a Plaid but its too big for my tastes...maybe i'll change my mind.
  44. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Standard range is the only one that uses LFP. The long-range uses China sourced NCM LG-chem packs. Nevada can't make enough Panasonic packs to supply all Model 3s. Most of them go to the Model Y and only a limited supply are there for the Model 3 Performance.
  45. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Honestly, you won’t notice. It’ll still feel like a rocket. Congrats on your purchase. I still love my M3P after 5 years.
  46. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Performance models use NCM from LG Chem in China. LFP isn't energy dense enough for the Performance models. US just gets better batteries overall.
  47. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The new M3P has different power characteristics than the old. I think the rear motors now generate 80% of the power vs. 65% in the old Model. Jason talked about why they tuned it for a staggered setup in the Youtube video.
  48. A

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

A full second slower to 60 is not slightly slower...pretty noticeable and significant. I wonder if downgrading to smaller wheels gives comparable ride given the 2 different settings on the M3P
  49. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'd be surprised if it in the upper 10s range for the quarter. This is looking like a low 11s car. I'm still hoping they have a "1 more thing" by releasing a Ludicrous version later 😁
  50. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Nowhere near Plaid in performance...but also price. This thing is a great upgrade for the price. $53k is really good value
