How well does phone key work compared to the old key fob?

It is very easy to lock yourself out of the car with your iPhone in it when you don’t have a keyfob. I just ordered another keyfob, because I am tired of calling my husband or my daughter from my landline at work in order to get someone to unlock the car with one of their iPhones if I don’t take a keyfob with me and forget to take my iPhone out of the charger in the car.

How does that happen? I've never had the car lock itself with the phone inside

@mouldsj, why not carry a keycard as a backup? It is less bulky than a fob.

This is what I do because occasionally, the iPhone will not work for some reason. However, it does not allow you unlock the car from a distance, so a fob might be better in this instance.

I set a pin to drive because I’m always leaving the iPhone in the car. I’ve never had the car lock with the iPhone in the car.
