Today's Roadster Orphan

How did he get wind of this car being offered for sale? It wasn't on the usual sites such as CarGuru or Autotrader.

That one was briefly on our Facebook Roadster owners group.

Yeah...that part stuck out to me as well. Radiant Red would be a similar paint to mistake it for, but 1443 is Fusion Red, and significantly brighter.

@TEG - any idea which VIN was the commonly used press car? The 2.5 that had silver forged on one side, and black forged on the other? Evidently 1443's owner was claiming that 1443 was indeed that press car. My understanding was the press car was an earlier 2010 2.5, since it was used well before production expired in late 2011.

This would also mean the interior was completely swapped to Executive Beige/Black Rally with Carbon Fiber. Seems like a stretch to me.

Umm, you might have been thinking of #805 ?

I think Tesla (North America) had stopped trying to promote the Roadster here by the time #1443 was made since they knew it was nearing the end of production and they were "gearing up" to start Model S production.

it's amazing how much everyone here knows about the roadster. someone should put this all in a book and sell it on Amazon--everything from the technical to performance, history behind each roadster out there, colors, modification, etc. seriously.

To answer his question, whether to buy it or not, I would say "Yes" if the seller is considering selling it to Tesla to be crushed for parts. Save the car!

My wife is considering selling her Roadster Sport 2.5 #972. Very Orange, with carbon, and in very good condition, in the Los Angeles area. I sent a message to the Tesla email today and got a reply in less than two hours. They are going to get back to us, but as an initial matter I appreciate the quick reply and response, and having been provided a phone number and point of contact for the process.[/Q

I was a little surprised that he didn't know what the "R80" meant. Or maybe he did and he was just trolling to drive up comments on the YouTube post. It's pretty easily googled. Or, a few minutes here would yield the answer.

I can confirm 619 is indeed this Very Orange 2.0 Sport. I wonder if they’re confusing it with 621 in Twilight Blue not too far away...

Yes, that is #619. I think DRM's old posts were about some reservation sequence number, not the actual VIN. He had #512...

By the way, #619 was originally in Connecticut.

I heard back from Tesla on their offer for my wife's car (972), which is in Southern California.
Very Orange 2010 Roadster Sport 2.5 #972

I post here to update those who are interested.

We got an offer in the low-to-mid 50s. It has a small premium/increase if we opt to apply it to the purchase of a "2020" Roadster.

It was a little less than my wife and I had in mind, given that her car is in good condition, it's a 2.5 Sport, it has lots of carbon fiber on it, it has been well cared for by Tesla, etc... But it is, after all, a trade in.

On the positive side, I have to give Tesla a thumbs up on how our interaction was handled - I'd grade it an 8 or 9 out of 10. As many of us know, Tesla communications can be very good, or very not good. For example, our delivery experience on our Model 3 was a 0 out of 10, for reasons I won't get into here (but message me if you want to gory details). My wife's delivery experience with her Roadster was about a 2 out of 10. But I've also had some great experiences/interactions with many people at Tesla. To go from an 8 or 9 to a 10 out of 10, I would have liked the offer to have come more quickly (originally told it would take a few days, whereas it ended up closer to two weeks).

The offer from Tesla is good for 30 days or 1,000 miles.

I received inquiries from a few folks about selling the car to a private party. It looks like we will explore that route, so I will get back now to those of you who expressed interest. I don't know about listing the car on one of the autotrader or similar sites. First I will see about folks here. Or she may end up keeping the car.
