From the Tesla website:

"Please note that we may withhold credits, discounts or other awards where we believe customers are acting in bad faith or otherwise acting contrary to the intent of this program. To be clear, commercializing or otherwise selling referral codes is not appropriate, and we will not honor such codes. We cannot cover every nefarious scenario, nor will we attempt to, but we do promise to be fair and reasonable."

This seems to be new language for this round. Does anyone know if buying Google Adwords for "Tesla Referral Code" etc is OK or not? I noticed a lot of the previous leaders were doing so last round. Personally, I didn't think that was really any benefit to Tesla... all that's doing is picking off people who were about to buy anyway, it's not like that creates new demand. But hey, if you had the $ to spend on buying ads and took the risk then more power to you I guess. I just wish they would spell out a little more clearly what's OK and what's not. Of course, this time, it's a lot more risky to spend $ on ads since the $1000 credit is gone and there's really only 1 large prize with cash value.

Do you have a link to this (or any other information about the referral program) from Tesla's website?

If Tesla is going to continue referral programs, and basically just have "prizes" (no cash or discounts) for the people doing the referrals, it would be nice if they had at least some prizes that weren't restricted by the time period of a single contest. What I mean is there are a lot of people who aren't going to make five referrals in a couple of months. These people may make a referral here and there, and perhaps over the course of a year or two they reach some significant number, like five. If Tesla keeps renewing the program for a couple of months at a time, and has minimum prize requirements set at five, with no cash or discounts, these people will never see any rewards at all.

Or offer some kind of consolation prize for people who get 1-4 referrals like some Tesla merchandise or something. Considering how popular Chademo adapters were in the first round, giving away one of those for 2 or 3 referrals would probably be popular. Even if the winner already had one, they could flog it pretty quickly.

For people who already have an invitation to the Gigafactory from the first round, they should make multiple wins transferable to someone else if someone wins a second one.

$100/referral would be appreciated. It's a jacket, some adapters, save up for a console. I liked the $1K per referral previously, but get that was a one time deal.

I completely agree. Its boring for me, and most likely of interest for the handful of people who have the time and energy who think they might win the contest.
You're welcome to give people my code and if I get an invite to any event, you can hang with my wife and me. I'm a dork, but you'd like her.

New location for referral link post since I can't create my own thread. I won't create too many of these, but will occasionally re-post with updated info in this thread.

If you want to be added to this chart, please PM me. Keep me informed on your status (number of referrals) and I will occasionally update this thread with a new chart. The goal is to stop anyone from going over 10 referrals since there is zero benefit, and to pass the referral along to another TMC member that hasn't hit 10 yet. If you are participating in this, the goal is to inform and help future Model S owners as much as possible, not to just share your link and sit back though. Please do your part.

I will be passing on my personal referrals as well as online referrals to anyone on the list below once I hit 10! Let's chat in this thread or feel free to PM me if you want to discuss your future Model S!

To kick things off, I added my link and few others. If you want to be included on this list shoot me a PM! Thanks everyone, hope to see you all at the Model 3 event...VIP style!

There is a way to make a WIKI reply. I do not know how exactly, but have seen some WIKI replies which allow updating and do not lock up.

Ok you go to the GO ADVANCED button when you do a REPLY and when the advanced tool box comes up the WIKI reply is the last button on the right....

So I contacted Tesla yesterday with my disappointment of ending the $1k referral credit. Someone was kind enough to offer me their referral credit for helping them with the electrical advice. Then I got the e-mail from Tesla saying they were eliminating the referrer part of the credit (which I could have used for another HPWC to donate).

I told them I found it hard to believe that owner feedback would be to eliminate the $1,000 referral credit (and encouraged Tesla to be upfront if not). The reply:

The alteration to the program was indeed genuine. There was a great deal of feedback on various forums, direct feedback to our store teams, and conversations with our Inside Sales team that owners felt the $1,000 credit somehow cheapened the referral and made it seem as if owners were recommending the car for their own personal gain, not because it’s the best car they’ve ever driven.

We took that feedback to heart; we didn’t want to seem like we were simply buying endorsements, hence the evolution of the program for the balance of this year.

That’s not to say we won’t consider every piece of feedback we receive this time round. So, while I can’t say we’ll change the program at this point, we will look at owner opinions seriously when evaluating our next steps.

I'm not sure that's the consensus that I saw, although I can understand *some* owners. If anything, it's the "most referrals for a free car" that represented the largest part of the "personal gain" component. Thoughts?

It was flawed after Ohio and Virginia wouldn't allow credits, those owners didn't see a dime and everyone else didn't think it was fair that those being referred from those states were getting 2k and thus it was easier to get referrals. Either way, they could have come up with a prize per referral, hpwc, chademo, jackets etc etc. Not offering anything of real value unless you get 5 is a BIG difference to the previous program.
