Dual motor all-wheel-drive will not be an option for Model 3s produced this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet.

The news will likely disappoint those with Model 3 reservations who hoped to see the upgrade available in the early run of vehicles. Musk said Tesla is “minimizing configuration complexity to keep the production ramp on schedule. RWD only for early production, just like Model S.”

Musk suggested that an all-wheel-drive option would not be offered for the Model 3 for 6-9 months.
