load rating 18 X 8 wheels and SL tires for MYLR

My previous vehicles include Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage with "meaty/tall" tires. basically, the treads are wider than the actual overall width of the wheel, and the sidewalls are 5-6" tall and bulge out. And i can deflate to 15# or lower when driving on soft sand when I go surf fishing.

I know some MY owners have down sized to 18 x 8.5 wheels. I see a few 18 x 8 wheels on Discount Tire website. The ones I have bookmarked have a load capacity of 1700, 1800, and 1900 LBS.

The MYLR is around 4400 LBS, 3 people around 500 LBS, and maybe 200 LBS of fishing gear. So I'm looking at 5100 LBS. Weight distribution is 46% front and 54% rear. So about 2754 LBS on the rear, which is about 1377 LBS per rear wheel/tire.

Any reason I can not use 18 x 8 wheels vs 18 x 8.5 wheels?

For the tires, I did a lot of comparing what's available at Discount Tire and their wet traction test on TireRack. I've narrowed it down to the Conti DWS06 Plus and the Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3. The 245/55R18 sizes are SL 103 rated. supposedly 103 is 1929 LBS. max psi is 51 for both tires. i'm currently running 38psi on the stock 19 Gemini with Pirelli Scorpion MS.

Is SL a must, if they have a 103 load rating?
