Sorry to hear about your bad experience with that company. I witnessed a guy redo the very same tint on another Tesla winshield twice in my shop and still had it wrong...I do know the MS has a tricky winshield
Good news: Tampa service center is now doing tinting, including windscreen. I talked with Mark yesterday and he talked me through the difficulties of putting tint on the windscreen, but they've done a few now and it's going well. I already have 3M Color Stable on my sides and rear windows, Tampa will put Crystalline on the windscreen this week.
Marty, it's worth giving Mark a call and see if he can remove your tint. I'll be happy to show what Tampa manages to do when I get my car back after the weekend.
I just discovered this thread and want to provide another data point for other Florida Tesla owners regarding the tinting options in Tampa.
My Tesla was the car that Pete spoke about earlier in this thread. I had 3M Crystalline applied to the entire car (front, back, side, and pano) at the Tampa Service Center. To my knowledge, the installer applied the 3M film
twice to the front windshield while at the SC because the first one failed. In spite of the redo, my delivery specialist noticed a few large bubbles in the middle of the front windshield prior to delivery. I also saw a very noticeable ½ inch gap between the tint film and the top edge of the front windshield. This, of course, prompted the need to reinstall again. As Pete witnessed, the tint installer apparently applied the film
two more times while in Pete's detailing shop. The final tint job was still unsatisfactory: residual glue marks, streaks, and small bubbles. Even more disturbing was seeing linear cut marks on the edges of the windshield, which resulted from the installer cutting the film directly on the glass. The side window edges were also jagged and uneven. They offered to redo the windshield yet another time, but I declined because I was unconvinced that they could do any better and perhaps, make it even worse.
In contrast, PCA Precision Car Audio and Window Tinting applied the same 3M film to our first Model S and did a
fantastic job. They laser cut the 3M film from a pre-made template. The result was superior all around. We did not see any bubbles under the film and all the edges were sharp and even. I wished we had gone back to them for the second car. At the time, I simply thought that it was more convenient to have the tint applied at the SC so that I wouldn't have to wait at PCA for several hours on a separate trip.
I think the take home point is that the quality of the tinting job depends on the skill of the installer!
