Tesla not planning a Model S recall: CNBC

From the National Fire Protection Association: "Collisions and overturns were factors in only 4% of highway vehicle fires, but these incidents accounted for three of every five (60%) automobile fire deaths." Also about 152,000 car fires per year.

    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

It's just the fact that the battery pack spreads out over most of the car's underside that the risk of damage from road debris should be significantly higher compared to Leaf and Volt battery placement and compared to gasoline tank placement. I don't have statistics, this seems obvious to me...

    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

First I'd like to say I'm a fan of Tesla and have a desire to buy a MS. Previously the lack of automatically folding mirrors was an obstacle for considering purchase of a MS. The MS is wide and we would only have 6 inches on either side to fit through the garage door. Once in there's lots of...

Social Chat - Short Term TSLA Movements

Elon uses tongue in cheek logic based humor. "It's not as crazy to short Tesla now" - translation: before they were super crazy $30-to-$120+ now they are just crazy $160-to-$250. His comment on stock price and valuation is simply that the other car companies couldn't afford Tesla based on market...

How a BMW Dealer Protected Me?

Independently owned, Tesla certified repair and maintenance shops make perfect sense to me. Tesla can keep doing their higher value design and development work and the well trained independent Tesla mechanics can serve their local clients.

How a BMW Dealer Protected Me?

I'm not sure where to post this, so I'm putting it here. I believe it is relevant in reference to the discussions on "illegal" Tesla stores, the grievances of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) against factory direct auto sales and against Tesla in particular, and NADA's claim of...

Lol - I like your comment. Bumps used to be six months apart, now they're 3 months apart...it's getting bumpier!

Definitely see a head and shoulder on the weekly chart. Likely to head down to $22 if no tangible good news in the next few days.

    Rumor: Apple buying Tesla

Does Daimler have first right of refusal? If so, I don't think Daimler could raise enough money to buy Tesla. Daimler Market cap is about $47Billion. Could they raise $10Bil, because I don't think Musk would sell for less, but probably more.

Not yet - I don't think. I've attached a diagram of a recent short squeeze that occured for sears holdings, Jan-Mar 2012. @MileErlic

A squeeze in 30 days seems a bit soon. I think the squeeze will come when there is a confirmation of a good sales trend, end of summer maybe.

Wow 26M shares short - that's surprising! Not sure what these guys are thinking? Following Tesla and SpaceX has been an interest of mine for quite some time, since it fits nicely with my personal experience as I have degrees in mechanical, electrical and computer engineering, B.A.Sc. (Mech) &...

I guess I'm lucky since my wife is the perfect whole food, natural drink, ugg & lulu loving high end female consumer. I've seen it all. Tesla has never really been about CO2, enviornment and kwH/kg or miles/BTU etc... No, instead it's about having a trunk and a frunk, a cool touch screen and no...

This is my very crude valuation. The luxury car market in the US is about 1 Milion vehicles, about the same for luxury SUVs. BMW alone sells about a quarter million luxury sedans. Tesla predicts it will sell about 20k Model-S vehicles, and a year later add 15k Model-X. If wealthy woman in their...

    Aftermarket clutch pedal

When I was in Germany recently I rented an Audi 6 Turbo Diesel with automatic on/off. The feature was not very well refined at all. Often at a stop the engine wouldn't go off immediately - instead turning off just as the light would go green. If you clutched and gassed right then, you'd get an...

How long will Tesla's current retail model be feasible?

A mall store is brilliant! A few demo cars of each type in the mall parking lot is all that's needed. When a prospective customer wants to test drive, a Tesla rep meets the customer at a mall entrance and they go for a spin. That part is great, but sometimes I wonder how they will deliver all...

Gas price volatility and expectation of volatility has me in real angst: $4 today, $2.50 tomorrow, up to $6 then back to $5. For me this uncertainty is definitely a big factor for going EV. I wonder, however, if an oil glut takes the price of gas down to $2.50 and keeps it there, whether anyone...

How relevant is the price of gas to the success of Tesla? Is a de-coupling about to occur?

If anything, the data acquisition and the timely error trap of the excess pressure in Merlin engine 5 and quick discovery of the root cause (faulty check valve) makes me more confident about Tesla. Certainly SpaceX technology is finding its way into Tesla, through conduit known as Elon Musk.

    It's the Batteries, Stupid!

About once or twice a year I do a 1000 mile round trip, usually to a son's sports tournament. I'd be happy to charge twice on the way there and twice on the way back at a McDonald's or Starbucks. Other than this, my daily average driving is about 50 mile per day, easily covered by regular...
