EV-Powershare, smart 240V splitter for dryer and EVSE

A pig tail cord, couple of outlets, a breaker built-in, and very occasionally a meter are all common standards for power strips. Everyone has those at home. It’s a no-brainer. Thus I am not going to take credit for being the “first” to have a breaker build into the power splitter, nor call...

EV-Powershare, smart 240V splitter for dryer and EVSE

Interesting that Brad Apelgren felt that his relevant information is to accuse me of copying his product. Normally I don’t find the need to respond to a competitor, but since Brad personally called me out and talked like he owns this whole idea, then I will share some relevant information too...

    Determine Amperage

it's a logical and easy deduction, but no one can be absolutely sure except for the home owner. Older houses typically have 100 amp service. And it is nearly impossible to double their service to 200amps if it's underground, as it cost insane amount to pull an extra wire.

SF Bay Area Residents - Are You Really Saving Money vs Gas?

If you have TOU rates, you should save money. Run your pool during the day while you have solar, before 3pm. Then charge your car after mid night. You should be using the lowest rate all day, except for cooking.

    Determine Amperage

Should be able to. However if someone is updating the panel, might as well see if they can increase services. If you get power from an overhead power line, you are in luck, you can easily double your service to 200amps. If you have buried power line, good luck, at best you can go is from 100...

    Determine Amperage

Agree exactly. upgrading a panel will easily run you over $2400 in San Jose CA, but there is little reason for you to do so since there is a dryer outlet ready to use. You didn't mention if you are still using an electric dryer, if yes, this is a EVPS is a good option for you...

    Older home with old wiring

A nema 10-30 on a 10 gauge wire charging at 24amps will eventually get a little warm, but not hot to the touch. It is normal.

Want to absolutely confirm: I can charge off a dryer plug?

Fair, you are entitled to your opinion. Though all these companies that are selling NEMA 10-30 to NEMA 14-50 adapters would say different. Amazon.com: nema 10-30 to 14-50 adapter They likely even have UL certification. Knowledgeable consumers are the ones to benefit from these type of adapters.

Want to absolutely confirm: I can charge off a dryer plug?

Not sure why you are so triggered over the decision to make the EV socket NEMA 14-50. It absolutely saves the owner from having to buy another... adapter. It's cleaner too for someone who's not using a tesla EVSE, why on earth would someone wants to daisy chain adapters, when they can just...

BTW, for anyone who doesn't want to stomach the shocking price of a panel upgrade, and want a safe alternative. Check out www.ev-powershare.com With built in over-current protection at 25 amps, and auto switching, it is very fool prof. Once you set your car to 24 amps, you can forget about...

    Cost to charge at home?

wow some people's highest rate is cheaper than my cheapest off peak rate... And free night charging!!! Wow.. That's just unheard off. I have an EVPS that tells me how much energy I use each month, but probably an overkill for most folks.
