    Firmware 5.8

The toggle/reboot seems to have cured my regen issues as well. Thanks, phat78boy.
  2. B

    Firmware 5.8

    Ditto--and I posted about it in the 5.6 thread before the 5.8 thread even existed. - - - Updated - - - I've also never used creep.

    Firmware 5.8

Had you driven my car before and after you would understand and we wouldn't be having this conversation. To my post from last night, I really think this change may be affecting different cars differently.
  4. B

    Firmware 5.8

The first time I noticed it was the first time I took my foot off the pedal after the upgrade. It was in the low 50s. And I've noticed it every single time since without exception. It's different. Period. And without looking back through the thread for everyone's location, I do remember a report...

    Firmware 5.8

I can state definitively that this is not the issue in my case.
  6. B

    Firmware 5.8

I find it a little confusing that many of us--myself included--have noticed a significant and undeniable change in the regen profile, while others haven't noticed a thing (I assume anyone contributing to this discussion is using standard regen and not low). I've also confirmed the change in...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

Thanks for the update. It's probably easier to order individually if they'll have the color combinations on file and we don't all have to reinvent the wheel (no pun intended). That would certainly be easier for you. I can go either way, though, if people would rather save the $20 then I'll join...

    Tesla Fires

I think they were annoyed by the "safest" claim, which I'll reiterate just simply could not be made based on the crash test scores. To your first paragraph, my point was less the NHTSA reaction, but rather TM making a claim that couldn't be substantiated.
  10. B

Note the change in Model S safety claims

It was reported at the time the crash test rating came out that Tesla annoyed the NHTSA when it proclaimed that the Model S was "the safest car in America" based on its score. It was pointed out in numerous places that the NHTSA doesn't test most luxury vehicles, and therefore that Tesla had no...

    Tesla Fires

You could be right. I suspect, as I posted during an OT segment of another thread, that they "requested" it because they knew it was coming and wanted to be able to make the claim that they requested it. I have no inside knowledge here, though, so yes, there are lots of possibilities. I think...

    Tesla Fires

I'm thinking TM didn't really ask for an investigation. Washington — The head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration flatly denied Tuesday that Tesla Motors had sought an investigation into battery fires in Model S vehicles, and questioned if it would even be proper for the...

    Firmware 5.8

Curious--if you connect it to a wifi network somewhere, anywhere--Starbucks, whatever--will it stop bugging you to connect in your garage? I'm connected at home and it doesn't bug me anywhere else--wondering if you just need an initial connection to satisfy its demands.
  14. B

    Firmware 5.8

I can see how a change to the acceleration can help Wh/mi, although that shouldn't come into play much on long highway drives. I know I'm using the brakes a lot more with the new regen profile, so I'm failing to see how that can be helpful either (not to mention far less "green" on the power...

MA - legislative hearing on anti-Tesla bill scheduled in November - let's show up!

I can't make it over there today but good luck to all!
  17. B

    Firmware 5.8

Of course I'm aware of the normal issues with the cold. . .second winter with the car. . .but good question. This is completely independent of that normal limitation. Standard now behaves like Low. I also watched the power meter closely this morning and it tended to cap out around 40kW of regen...
  18. B

    Firmware 5.8

Sorry. . .memory failing. I swapped to winter tires at the same time as the switch to 5.6 so I consider my direct observations on this to be unreliable. But yes, I believe you are correct--and I stand corrected. Point remains, though.
  19. B

    Firmware 5.8

I actually don't think it's trivially small, at least from a driving experience standpoint. I find it to be quite significant on the highway in traffic--I used to almost never have to use my brake, now I use it frequently. It's a big change in my opinion. In a bigger picture sense, though, I...
  20. B

    Firmware 5.8

I would just argue that you can control the aggressive regen by how quickly you take your foot off the pedal.
  21. B

    Firmware 5.8

I was wondering exactly the same thing--that fraction of a second of it sharply decelerating could actually mean something when inches count. And of course if you don't want the sharp deceleration of the (old) regen, you just don't lift your foot as quickly!
  22. B

If offered the update are you delaying install of 5.8?

Not sure upgrading to 5.8 or holding off really matters much. Either 1) this is indeed a programming mistake and they'll fix it soon enough, 2) they'll realize owners are upset and they'll undo it soon enough, or 3) it was quite intentional, they don't care that owners are upset because it might...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

No PA3's in 245/45/19 in the U.S. Interesting you have them in Canada. Or did you go with a different size? Presumably most performance winters would be more stable than the xi3's under heavy acceleration, but then, they may not perform as well if you ever really need them. That's the inevitable...

    Firmware 5.8

I noticed the regen change immediately (literally) after going from 4.5 to 5.6 early last week. It is unchanged from 5.6 to 5.8. I haven't tested the change in acceleration claim--been pampering my winter tires!
  25. B

    Firmware 5.8

Asked the same question over in the 5.6 thread a couple of days ago (before I knew there was a 5.8 thread!). It's clearly less aggressive at first--question is whether it is just a different profile and it eventually makes it up. I'm not sure it does. Personally I like the old way better.

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

One thing I've noticed with the Xi3's is that they really can't handle lane changes under rapid P85 acceleration--like if you punch it while changing lanes to go around someone on the highway. It induces quite a bit of instability. The car was just realigned and rear toe links fixed, so I'm...
  27. B

    Firmware 5.6

Satellite view switches off automatically when the car enters night mode. I think that's probably the issue.
  28. B

    Firmware 5.8

@Discoducky--If I'm understanding you correctly, just hit the map mode toggle (always north vs. car-orientation) once and it will recenter you. No more dedicated button.
  29. B

    Firmware 5.8

This is based on only one observation, but the time lag for the charge port to engage when plugging in seems to be gone with 5.8.
  30. B

    Firmware 5.6

Yes--I've noticed this, off and on. I just got 5.8 so I'll see if it fixes it.

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

They're a very dark grey, but definitely not black.
  32. B

    Firmware 5.6

Has anyone else noticed that the magnitude of deceleration from the regen when initially taking your foot off the pedal doesn't seem as aggressive with 5.6? Trying to figure out if this is my imagination or not. Sure feels like it's been reduced by 25% or so, although the magnitude of energy...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

I got my silver Luganos installed with xi3 tires yesterday at the SC. I think its a great winter setup--thanks NJS for initially bringing these wheels to our attention. I've only driven last night and today, but the xi3's feel decent for winter tires--a bit less sturdy in turns than the...

    Firmware 5.6

I was still on 4.5 and hadn't gotten my notification yet, but I got the upgrade to 5.6 yesterday during a separately scheduled visit to the SC. They did it without my asking (I didn't want to be a nuisance) which was nice of them. Lost one mile in 8 hours overnight, so sleep mode is clearly...

One Man's P85+ versus P85 experience... am I being unfair to the P85?

Funny. . .I had the opposite experience. Got a P85+ as a loaner and thought it was too tight and too rigid. I'm sure I'll get overwhelmingly shot down on this one but for driving around town on freeways and surface streets that was my experience. I think you really really have to caveat your...

A Slightly Different (?) Take on the Fire "Risk"

I agree with your points, riceuguy. That said, I think it's probably inevitable that they wind up with a design modification to the underside of the car. These debris-induced fires are likely to continue to happen as more cars get delivered and at some point TM isn't going to want to take the...

Does anyone know if the sound from the rear sensors can be disabled in addition to the front? There are times when that is useful as well.

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

Here's a side-by-side to add to NJS's original and other pix that have been posted. The silver Luganos are a bit brighter and the OE's more matte.
  40. B

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

Personally I think the gunmetal looks great on the colors--red, grey, green, etc., but with black suddenly the wheels become lighter than the car without really contrasting, and to my eye that's not as attractive. I prefer the silver wheels for the contrast with the black as opposed to wheels...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

Received my silver Luganos yesterday from Tire Rack with Xi3's. I also almost went with the 3D's but ultimately decided to err on the side of a harder core winter tire for around here and I liked the LRR. Having them put on in a couple of weeks. I'll post a side-by-side picture to supplement...

New policy regarding non-stock Tesla tires

Evidently Tesla corporate discourages service centers from dealing with non-factory wheels/tires, but ultimately it's up to the service center. Our service center here will mount/balance/install for $60/tire or just seasonally install already mounted tires for free. Unfortunately this is one...

    Album art

I'd be happy if it would even just show my artwork. . .more often than not it overrides it with a random image of the band pulled in from Slacker (or some other source--not sure). This is one of several glitches in the audio interface that they're taking their time fixing. The other annoying one...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

Ok I'm confused. . .just noticed that the OE winter wheel package uses 19x8.0J. These are 19x8.5. Sorry for the ignorance, as I assume any issue here would have been hammered out in the first 20 pages of this thread, but does that difference in width matter?

    21" winter/snow tires

The price increase is for real. "All purchases going forward will be at the new prices." I have to say this is the first time in 4 years that I have negative feelings about Tesla Motors.

    21" winter/snow tires

I have an email into merchandise@ asking about the price increase. Haven't heard back yet. I didn't do the package last winter because with an early February delivery I figured it was close enough to spring that I didn't want to just have to swap them back out again. Frustrating though. . .sold...

Alas, new problem: Windshield Stress Fracture. Anyone else?

I got the fracture a few weeks ago--6000+ miles and 6 months after delivery, and the service station was great about replacing it under warranty. The new windshield they installed, however, is NOT the same windshield that was installed originally on the early production cars. They told me this...

Automatic Car Washes: What is the verdict?

I've decided not to use the traditional car washes (potential swirls and the tracks potentially rashing the 21's) or the laser-guided touchless washes (I've found the pressure coming out of these can be REALLY hard and at times can hit nearly perpendicular to the car). I hand wash 9 months out...
