Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
I have a small solar system that charges L1 nicely. Problem is I need to back down on the charge rate when a cloud comes over. It seems logical to do this through software but Elon choose not to allow this. So based on the conversation on this thread I will proceed with the openEVSE route...
Its very hard to get off fossil fuels even with nuclear in the mix and next to impossible without some nuclear because of the large storage requirements and lack of power lines to power a renewables only plan. I have some models on my web page showing this if you want to get in to modeling up...
I was wondering if the car charges to 99% of battery capacity does that mean the battery contains 99% of the original 100% energy in a new battery? If so my battery degradation would be just a loss of 3 miles from 310 miles. Now that I am charging a bit at a time with covid and im not going...
I wish we had a way to take grid tied panels with inverters on each panel that make AC and be able to plug them into a box that would allow us to plug those panels into the Tesla EV even if we do not own a power wall. This would be a way to extract energy into the car off grid or when the grid...
A great HF affordable radio is the ICom 7300. I got one for my daughter for xmas.
I've been wanting to build a small cw transmitter to go with my IC756P3 which has a good RX but the TX is burned out.
I have no specific suggestions for you. I see others are commenting. Maybe one of them...
Running cables to the 12 volt battery would have required drilling holes. Another ham said there is access to even higher power levels at 12 volts under the rear seat, enough to run nearly a kW. This is beyond my interest level. I was just wanting to get HF and VHF radios on the air in the...
Some local Tesla X and S owners are saying they are getting AM noise. I did some more testing.
This morning I took my Yacht Boy portable receiver out to the car which was powered down. I tuned in a local radio station on 590 and it was full scale on the S meter. I tuned up to 605 kHz and...
I made one last video of my final no holes drilled installation in the Model 3. Most importantly it's wife accepted.

The repeater background noise was due to a high audio volume, not car RFI. Most of the time I'll have the FT8100 radio off and...
I switched to 2 meters and trimmed the little 1/4 wave whip to get a low swr. It keyed up local repeaters however there was quite a lot of background noise. It sounded like switching noise to me. I spend the afternoon moving the antenna to the back trunk. There was a wide enough gap to...
This morning I qso'd KA8KCR and W4EDE both in Florida from my home in Austin TX as /m using the above video link setup. I was lite copy for them but I was running just the little whip at 25 watts on 7057 kHz. KA8KCR Richard told me he has a friend with a new truck and ham radio in the truck...
That one drive link was not very user friendly. I made a youtube video. Teslas make ideal ham radio vehicles on high frequency with the transmitter RF not causing interference to the car's electronics. The Teslas may be the only cars this well shielded. See
I put my ATAS100 Yaesu mobile mount on the front hood and powered up the IC7100 on 7038 hz. There was no rfi. I found I could run 25 watts with 11 amps peak current on the 12 volt accessory plug. Here is a short video Meet Google Drive – One place for all your files
What brand and model of mag mount antenna are you using? It's tiny, just what my xyl wants. I just bought an IC7100 so now Im getting serious about installing it in the model 3. How did you route the 12 V power and control cables to the trunk?

The truck is designed for strength, not beauty. Physics dictates it shape, not artistic opinion. The triangles add strength to the body shell. The shape is an attempt to also lower wind resistance. The ability to adjust height above ground is pure genius. Now that I've been looking at the...
Im waiting to see that new Mistang EV side by side with the GT500 in their show room and folks read the specs and learn the EV outperforms the GT500 while in the showroom. That's going to be interesting! Then again maybe all this Ford EV stuff is just propaganda on their part.
The Power Wall was designed for a normal grid that has an occasional outage. As a professional engineer I have been looking at long term outages. Even here in Austin Texas there is a type of outage that could cause the power to be off for months. So I have been thinking about the emergency...
I'm interested in the Tesla Truck being able to power tools and other electrical devices requiring 120 VAC power. A plus would also include a 240 VAC outlet with the Truck. This would give the Tesla Truck new working tools not available in ICE trucks.
Even if the truck did not have V2G it should have 120 and 240 VAC outlets for powering tools. If the 240 VAC outlet could handle 10 kW it would be possible to transfer energy from the truck into another Tesla EV using current hardware. With this outlet it would be possible to V2G indirectly...
Im looking for the minimum amps the J1772 plug can tell the Tesla to charge at. I need the plug to go to 0 amps for a specific application. All I can find it how to set some level >0 amps. But if there is a minimum level of amps the controller can be set at what is it?
Dynamic charging could be made to be easy if Tesla would have a software way to allow external users the ability to throttle the charging amps in real time.
NYPrepper thanks for the PW info. I have been trying to determine if its possible to charge the Model 3 off the PW system? Tesla rep said no because the PW is limited to 5 kW. However it's important to be able to charge my model 3 off the PW because I do grid studies and Im seeing some Puerto...
I would like to know the Tesla mobile HF noise situation using the IC7100. Also, will the 12 volt outlet handle the current of the IC7100 at 100 watts? Finally how do you route the coax from the antenna so rain does not leak into the trunk? The Austin Amateur Radio Club is anxiously waiting...
I've been testing the self driving software and I find it deadly. I do not plan on using it. Maybe in the future. In discussing with a friend who just bought a new Honda CRV with self driving software we both agree that sometimes the software makes mistakes that can be deadly. Also I find it...
I knew the Tesla 3 was well more advanced than the Bolt so my choice was between an EV and a PHEV. I looked at a Volt and was horrified by the complexity of the vehicle as far as maintenance needed. The GM dealer had their Bolts and Volts parked way out in the lot hidden away from view as they...
Yeah Im waiting to get the FOB key because my ifone is version 4, too old. So Im using the keycard but I would like to have an FOB key because I could then carry the house key also with the car key all on the same chain. Im not bothered by having to push a button. Can anyone tell me when...
