Best use of Powerwall in south Florida

In Florida you must examine your electric bill closely to see how your power company is defining "net metering". When I installed the original PV system on my home in 2008 my power company (SECO) subtracted the KWh my system backfed to the grid from the KWh drawn from the grid; my electric bill...

Towing an Alto F1743 trailer with a Model X

Good explanation regarding the specification regarding the "rise" of the ball. However, when I checked published dimensions for the Weigh Safe WS4-2 it appears the distance from the ball mount to the closest locking bolt hole is 8.42 inches. Tesla specifies a maximum of 8.0 inches for the ball...

Latest update for AP1 Model X

The sensors on my AP1 X do have some ability for detecting cars around you. These sensors are used to prevent AutoPilot from changing lanes when you activate the turn signal if an obstruction (vehicle) in in the adjoining lane. The sensors also are used for the summon/parking features. I only...

    Current S60 owners - how’s battery/ supercharging?

An additional data point for those wondering about battery life with the "classic" S60; my 2013 S has 119,500 miles (original battery, replaced drive unit) 100% charge now registers 183 miles rated range.

Latest update for AP1 Model X

While AP1 cars still receive improvements from firmware updates, blind spot monitoring is not one of them. This is due to hardware limitations (AP1 cars have fewer cameras and sensors compared to AP2+/EAP).

    Model X GPS Antenna Location

I know that the Model S has multiple antennas in the exterior mirror housings. It would seem logical the the X would use similar locations.

    Model X Road Noise

As someone who still owns both a Model S and Model X, and drives them on the same roads under the same conditions (though obviously not at the same time :-) I can confirm that YES, my Model X does transmit more road/wind noise to the passenger compartment than my Model S.

    Dash display not turning off

I haven't observed this with my Model X. However, I do see this behavior with my Model S if the car is unlocked (my S does not have self-locking feature). When I lock my S by clicking the fob the display properly goes dark.

    Black car in florida?

Agreed. After 4 years and 90,000 miles the textile seats in our Model S still look and feel new. And placing a sun screen in the windshield when parking during the day is simply a good habit for any Florida driver.

    HomeLink in Reverse

Same observation here. Used to be very reliable, but recent couple of months HomeLink activation has been erratic when I back into my driveway. Resetting the GPS location has had minimal effect.

Household solar storage increases emissions, study concludes

Even a quick look at the school's website shows a very strong relationship with many oil companies. Readers must always use critical evaluation skills when examining "research" reports.

    Rear Tire Wear on XP90D

Same here with 10,000 miles on 20" Conti-silents, auto lowering set to 50mph (which is probably 25% of my mileage). Even tread wear inside to outside of all four tires.
  14. D

What height are you riding in the MX

My Model X suspension is set to Standard, and changes to Low at 50mph. With 10,000 miles so far on the original equipment tires the tread depth still measures evenly inside to outside, and is consistent on all four tires. I would estimate perhaps 25% of my mileage is driven at 50mph or greater.

Sunpass Mini and Gate Openers on Model X

Note that page 166 of the Model X Owner's Manual provides the following instructions: I placed my Sunpass Mini immediately to the right (passenger side, left as viewed from the front of the vehicle as in the above picture) of the rearview mirror; part of the blue shaded area depicted. It works...

    AP2 can't read speed limits?

That's good to know. My Model X (with AP1) is very good at displaying accurate speed limit signs, but the Model S loaner (AP2) I'm currently driving, while my X is being serviced, is incorrect much too often - just as the original poster described.

    Model X EZ pass mounting

Page 163 of the Model X Owners Manual has a section titled Using RFID Transponders that states: When attaching an RFID transponder (used by many automated toll systems) inside Model X, locate the transponder in the topmost area of the windshield as shown. This ensures best results and minimizes...

Slacker Radio not forwarding to next song

I have occasionally experienced the same problem. Reboot touchscreen (holding down both scroll wheels for ~20 seconds, until the "T" logo appears on the touchscreen) usually resolves. One time I also had to reboot the instrument display (holding down both upper buttons - the ones above the...

    Car Unable to Charge

To add another data point for those following this discussion - my Model S developed the exact same charger problem yesterday (~78,000 miles). Tesla Service Center finished their diagnostics and confirmed that the charger has developed an internal failure. Cost to replace = $1,800, not covered...

    Model S 85 Loaner: 109,000 Miles

I'm not sure why many people assume that early production cars required drive unit replacement. My Model S (delivered 2/5/2013) has over 72,000 miles on the original drive unit and battery. When new my 100% charge rated range was 208 miles (60KW battery) and after 72,000 miles my 100% charge...

60 kWh owners - How fast does your car supercharge?

The fastest rate I have observed was 304 miles/hour (321V, 306A) with 38 miles of rated range on the battery.

Updating a classic Model S TPMS

The upgrade is indeed possible on early production cars (mine was delivered February, 2013). My TPMS system was replaced with the new version because of repeated loss of sensor signal (similar to that reported by swegman).

    Textile Seats?

After 72,000 miles the textile seats in my Model S look just as good (and are still as comfortable) as when it was new. I have driven many loaners with leather seating (original and Next Gen) and have no regrets about choosing the textile seats. Personally I believe money is better spent on...

Question about new Tesla HPWC (80A) Montgomery, AL

Model S does not to be SuperCharger enabled to use HPWC, however unless the car is equipped with the optional 20kW capable Dual Chargers it will only charge at a maximum of 40A not 80A.

    Infested With Ants

I did see an ant trail on my charging cable once (luckily, not at my home). As a Florida resident I am most concerned about the "crazy ants" that are becoming more prevalent in the Gulf Coast region. My next door neighbor has already suffered from a damaged electrical system in his car (not a...

DeFuniak Springs SpC to Lake City SpC in 70D doable?

I can'e speak for range in a 70D, but based on my trips the safest suggestion is to plan on stopping for lunch/dinner at the Sheraton Four Points in Tallahassee. They have multiple chargers, which are available for their customers (including dining patrons).

85D vs. 60 - wow, the difference is night and day!

After 56,000 miles and 2 1/2 years of owning a 60, with many loaner 85's and P85's provided during times of service, I think the above quote really sums it up. The 60 is a great economic use car!

Real-world comparison of my cost per mile - MS versus ICE

Thank you for the insight. The Civic does sound like an economical commuter car. I now realize I should have tempered my enthusiasm by saying "I'd be shocked to find a comparable ICE sedan that cheap to drive." Note for further comparisons - if we can agree that I did not NEED the...

Real-world comparison of my cost per mile - MS versus ICE

I'll add another data point to this discussion. After the first annual service on my Model S (~23,000 miles) I totaled the cost of service ($600) plus the cost of the two new tires I needed, plus the total increase in my electric usage (~ $0.12/KWh). Dividing by the 23,000 miles driven I came...

Anyone NOT buying the extended warranty?

With 49,500 I have decided not to pay the $4,000 + for extended warranty. We had our appointment at the Service Center for our second "annual" service at 49,000 miles and everything checked out fine. Granted, as a early production car we certainly had our share of hardware/electronic problems...

3G not working a few times until reboot after 6.2

I have been experiencing similar problems (no map - just blank gray grid on touchscreen, and Slacker plays but does not update on dash display) for the past month since my annual service. At that time the Service Center upgraded my firmware from 6.1.xxx to 6.1.yyy (sorry, don't recall exact...

Passing power s60 vs s85 vs p85 etc?

I regularly drive rural 2-lane highway with 65 mph speed limit, have no trouble passing cars doing 64 mph. To be honest, after driving over 45,000 miles in my S60 I am not able to notice a difference in acceleration compared with the times I have driven an S85. (P85 is a completely different...

Valet Service No Longer Free at Dania Beach SC - Miami-Dade Owners Annoyed

My car is at the Orlando (Longwood) service center for it's annual service today. I was provided a loaner and valet service (to my office in Clermont), which is within the distance that the SC said they were still offering complimentary valet. They did indicate that this was a new policy - to...

60 vs 85... the same now?

Firmware (or at least the way it interacts with the battery pack hardware) is most definitely different. As delivered, my original firmware displayed the same center instrument panel as seen on cars with 85KWh pack (i.e. the highest battery drain number was 320 KW). After one of the firmware...

    Early model chargeports

My Feb 2013 build's charge port was tight, but I had the opposite problem of jerry33 - indicators shows the port door as being open when it was actually closed. I also did not notice any difference in fit of charging cable after new port was installed.

Do you trust Any Old Tire Shop to rotate your Model S tires?

I just purchased 4 new tires from Discount Tire and had them installed yesterday. I've been going to this same shop for a few years now, and trust their service. When I arrived I asked if they had worked on a Tesla before - they were honest, and said no. I had printed out pages from the...

Car was dead this morning after 3 days in sleep mode while plugged in

    60kW Pre-Supercharger Road Trip

As luck would have it, it looks like supercharger(s) will finally be opening in Florida this week; but my business conference in Naples was last week.:frown: After completing my first Max-Range charge, we left Clermont with 203 miles rated range and driving settings set to Range Mode. I-4 to...

Suggested Tesla Supercharger locations in Florida

Point well taken - you can still get there without adding too many miles or too much time to your trip. (I just dislike driving I-95, and prefer the Turnpike - seems to be less traffic.)

Suggested Tesla Supercharger locations in Florida

Larry, Yeah - it's about 6 1/2 miles from interchange 272 to the intersection of Routes 50 & 27. The planned additional interchange will be very close. Suggested Tesla Supercharger locations in Florida

    Antennas in exterior mirrors

Here is a photo of the key fob antenna, located in the driver's side end-panel of the dash. According to speculation on teslatap.com http://teslatap.com/undocumented/ the antennas in the mirrors are Data/3G and FM radio (maybe AM also).

    Antennas in exterior mirrors

Yeah, the barricade is just fine  I'm glad it was only the mirror, and not more serious. That's what happened when my husband drove a Miata for 10 years, and hadn't yet gotten used to how wide the Model S is!
