    Supercharger - Charleston, SC

I stopped by this location and was able to charge (reduced power level). A Tesla person was performing service work on the system today. It looked like about 1/2 of the stations were operating. I observed 4 vehicles charging at the time.

Model S 19" factory OEM wheels

If you have not sold them, perhaps I can buy. I only need two right now, but can buy all 4. I can pick them up in Charlotte. I offer $400.

Clunk in rear during initial acceleration

Got the noise on mine. Its been there a long time, perhaps it was always there. I like the "normal" explanation.

    Open Vehicle Monitoring System

Good to know. That helps prompt me to further investigate another issue I am seeing with the car.

    Open Vehicle Monitoring System

Okay, I got the parts in and ran through the setup on the Model S. It seems operating well on wifi and celldata. I get very useful info like SOC percentage, ideal+estimated range, all 4 tires pressure and temps, current odometer and 12V battery voltage. First time I have been able to see 12V...

    Open Vehicle Monitoring System

I am wanting to try out OVMS on my 2012 Model S as well. It looks like I can order another full kit of parts from Fasttech with the 3G modem, add the K-line board and have a go for Model S. Adding some features like TPMS readout to my early-limited feature Model S would be neat, plus finally...

Repeated TPMS failures on a 2.0 Roadster with 44k miles

Thanks for that suggestion. I will have alook at the cable to verify, it may be out of date. My TPMS is still working today, but with this update, I hope to be ready for any future issues.

So happy to see this. I will order promptly.

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

It happens to me on occasion. I imagine just an update on the OVMS module or such. I enter my info in the app again and it comes right back up.

    Roadster 2.x TPMS Tool

I am interested in migrating/updating my OVMS when this is in production. It seems like most every Roadster in private hands will benefit from this long-term owner-empowering capability. TPMS has been such a challenge and frustration for many.

Head unit update with volume control buttons

Well this unit does come with an IR remote. I agree with gregd that it is not desirable use case in the Roadster. I put it in the glovebox, and may never use it, but it is there if I need it. I like my big buttons. :-)

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks again for that detail. I am planning to study the OVMS manual again. In particular may later want to get an alarm or notification of the battery voltage dropping below ~12.3 or so. That would be an early warning that it is not charging as it should be. This telemetry is very useful.

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Understood Mark, However, since the (non-APS) DC-DC converter is dead on my car, the only source of continuous 12VDC now is the 12V battery circuit! I have patched the 12V battery in (fusebox tap) to take place of the failed ESS 12V DC converter. So, for my car, the 12 volt battery does...

Head unit update with volume control buttons

I thought I would share this now that I think I am satisfied enough, and want to contribute back to the club. I have the 2.5 with the double DIN, and have been trying different solutions. Not wanting to spend a lot and then be disappointed in how it works, I have tried inexpensive options. The...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

As an alternative, I may consider just using the APS fuse connection to charge the 12V battery directly through a rectifier, without the boost. But I really do like this panel allowing me to see in realtime the 12V level(s) without getting the Fluke meter out and fiddling to check it. Also, I...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

So I thought I would post an update now here in November. The upgraded battery is still serving to replace the missing ESS 12V supply via the added fusebox tap I installed. The car does not die, since control units are provided the missing 12V ESS supply from the 12V battery. Also, I still...

    Roadster Service E-Mail

I am original purchser of mine, and I did get that email from Tesla. I was not in a hurry, but think I will reply to the email and ask for some details on what they are doing to support the Roadsters. How about restoring telemetry, technical details, improvements, more parts and such.

    unable to calibrate touchscreen

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps a salvage unit swap?, though it may be coded to the VIN and/or other control units and not work properly.

Did you ever get it working?

    Roadster 12V system is down.

The pins are easy to release at that point, and assembly is easy. I coated the rubber seal with a little rubber protection product (shown) hoping for some insurance there. Put back together it looks and feels like new.

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks for the info and pics. It is always good to see and understand issues that have happened in the past with the Roadster. I have completed the repair of the Molex PEM connector. Fortunately, mine was just mechanical damage to the external portion, and the pin condidtion looks fine. I...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

I replaced the small battery with a larger one to help sustain the 12V circuits in the car, but also have to keep a Battery Tender charger connected overnight, to be sure to cover and support that ongoing ~.3A/.5A drain. When the key is on, the ESS provides additional 12V power to the car, and...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Update: I have some of the work completed to revive the car. The 12V system is operational with a change to the previously used 12V battery up front, and a tap into the fuse box, running a wire from that to the newer larger 12V battery. I have been using the Deltran Battery Tender LiFePO4...
  26. driver_EV

    Roadster 12V system is down.

The car does shift properly, "drive" selection works. Errors previously seen have disappeared, as it seems they were only set when battery was used at the APS terminals. Just applying battery power at the brown/black wire returns car to to normal. Plus, I am feeling much better now too. :-)
  27. driver_EV

    Roadster 12V system is down.

It looks like I have confirmed the ESS is not providing 12V on that connector pin#1 (at all). So far it seems you are also correct that the car will be normal again (have not driven again yet) with an alternate 12V provided on that wire. I see no indication that this wire is broken or shorted...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Had to do some local errands, no actual changes or tests done today, but am taking and studying more photos of the ESS connector and wires. I want to be sure I can see the colors and pin positions clearly for identification. I may pull the trunk tub and/or LH rear wheel to get better access for...
  29. driver_EV

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Initial test at the end of the day points to no 12V provided on that wire. I will check again more carefully tomorrow. Will get things powered up again tomorrow and see if a signal shows there at all. Seems quite a shame for such a light weight 12V power output to be the failure that may...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks much for this info. Good specifics to check. I was trying to narrow down which module is responsible for float charging the 12V battery, figuring that device would lead back to an APS or ESS connection that I could pinpoint as a failure candidate. Getting closer. :-)

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks for this reply. I will begin study of these. The SHFT messages seem to always come in a simultaneus similar pair with ID:3004 and ID:3003 based on the recent alerts in VDS. The one displayed stays up for just a few seconds then can't be recalled. I am pretty sure the second error message...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks for this reply, With the state the car is currently in, the 12V battery is not being supported with a float charge. After getting the car "woke" again by applying external 12V at the APS terminals near/in front of the RH tire, and turning the key on, seeing normal dash lights, VDS, etc, I...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Okay, will try to get to that one (I need to learn and have never looked at it). It may be difficult at the moment, as I have the RH side of the car on jacks in the air with both RH wheels removed. It looks quite difficult to reach. I see two connectors in that area, have put my fingers on two...

Interesting, I have orderd the repair parts, it looks like a 3 month or so back order for the female receptacle part. -correction, Digi-key has the female in stock, -ordered.
  37. driver_EV

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Okay, from what I see, there may be two modes or branches to the APS 12V power. One is powered up with the key-on, and that one will linger for an interval with the key turned fully off, the period of time is perhaps 10-15 minutes, then it shuts off. The other one would be a baseline low power...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Wow, it looks like I may have a surprisingly great outcome. (crossing fingers) While logs operation was started I did get a "Shift: Warning lost comms DMC" -barely caught that one with the camera, and for a minute the Drive buttons all were red-illuminated. I left the car and went back inside...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks so much PV-EV for the part # details, I was looking at a list of parts on Web stores without being certain about correct items. I plan to do a proper repair on that two pin PEM connector. Update. I have connected a battery to the 12V posts on the car. Coolant pump promptly turned on, so...

    Roadster 12V system is down.

Thanks for the initial batch of replies. I am looking for the MX150 connector parts listing and will search for an APS fuse location. My PEM does not desperately need cleaning right now, but I was thinking of learning how to remove the PEM and clean it at some point. Might the APS fuse be in...

My 2011 Roadster -oddness and now not happy. (*-designates issue) After going for a drive the previous day: *I observed the PEM cooling blowers seemed to linger on after parking the car. This seemed a bit of a worry, but I proceeded to charge the car on slow level 2. Otherwise car seemed...

Repeated TPMS failures on a 2.0 Roadster with 44k miles

Repeated TPMS failures on a 2.0 Roadster with 44k miles

BTW: on the OVMS app I can see occasional updates for what seems to be the front two tire sensors (different pressure and temps grey text) so it is giving data reports that the car fails to give. The rear tires seem to have no updates, only showing 0.0psi and 32 degrees F for both. I had a...

Repeated TPMS failures on a 2.0 Roadster with 44k miles

Hi ShawnA, I have the OVMS3 installed for a couple of months now. It is terrific. I was able to get it connecting to my home wifi when the car is parked at home, and I turn on tethering with my Pixel phone while driving, so there is little use of Hologram data most of the time, but when I am...

Repeated TPMS failures on a 2.0 Roadster with 44k miles

The mothership term is a nice abbreviation for the concept of a factory-side telemetry data collection server. Speaking generally about the concept, is there reason to think they created a new and different mothership for all the ongoing newer Tesla models' telemetry, thus recreating the...

Repeated TPMS failures on a 2.0 Roadster with 44k miles

Okay, I searched around and found on the "FW Versions" screen, the last three lines down at the bottom of the report may be related. I see a value for ICCID, IMEI, and the last line (in red text) is "Offline" sometimes followed by "2dbm". I have had quite a time trying to actually get the TPMS...
