How to justify buying the new Roadster

How to justify: 1) You can afford it. 2) You want it. 3) There is no step three. I rented a Lamborghini Huracan to drive from Denver to Vail and back over the summer. It was super fun, but not a game changing driving experience like the original Roadster or even the S. It would appear this...

    Supercharger - Council Bluffs, IA

Went back last night. Made a point of not charging for a couple days to get the range down around 30 miles left. Set it to range charge. Filled up to 252 in the advertised hour and 20 minutes on the dashboard while I gorged on some wings. Superchargers are awesome.

    Really cold tomorrow

Omaha here. Air temps this morning were -10F. Parked inside overnight in controlled temp (±60F). P85. My typical 40 mile all highway commute was the same as ever, save some extra frozen condensation on the inside of the driver's window (I tend to generate a lot of body heat). Once the...

Map of current, upcoming and suspected Tesla Superchargers

I don't disagree with the Californian's route. Just saying that's nothing close to what the Tesla site has on the map for Winter 2013. Californians do know the difference between South Dakota and Nebraska, right?

Map of current, upcoming and suspected Tesla Superchargers

Apologies if this was pointed out elsewhere, but... Tesla's website (Supercharger | Tesla Motors) says "Winter 2013 – Coast-to-coast travel via I-80". The dots on the Winter 2013 slider map on the same page show the gray dots cutting through South Dakota on I-90. I-80 goes right through...

    2008 Roadster 1.5, Very Orange, +26K miles

Hey all. Since getting the S, it's safe to say my Roadster isn't going to have nearly as many miles put on it as before, so I'm toying with the idea of selling it. And to be honest, I really don't have an asking price in mind. Would entertain any serious inquiries. Here's the thread from...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2013

Rode it from 39 to 84. Just unloaded my initial investment. Have more money leftover. Not bad for <90 days. Between that and getting my S delivered this morning I'm smiling like I got away with something.

And it's here! I live downtown. I had a crowd of bus drivers, construction workers, neighbors, cops, etc, all stopping to watch it unload. For even more drama it came down on a lift off the second deck of a semi. It's too damn cool.

    Model X Tally

I'm in this club, too, although I bought my Roadster used. Can I still come to the meetings? My daily will be the S, the better half gets the X, and the Roadster will be for fun. I'll just set it up for fast dry driving and not take it out in inclement weather.

Parking and charging outside of home???

FWIW, I've been charging my Roadster outside daily in Nebraska for over a year, through two winters of sub-zero and one summer with a nice stretch of 105-110 F, plus all the accompanying rain, snow, etc. The manual specifically says not to do it but I haven't had any issues with the charging...

OWNERS! - do you get awkward questions about price tag?

I mostly don't either. It just depends on "how" I was asked, you know? You can usually tell if someone is asking because they are genuinely interested or if they want to start an argument. In uber-red state Nebraska, I've been on the defensive quite a bit since the election and the Romney...

21" wheels now included on Performance?

Am I losing my mind, or did the website change from the 21" wheels being a $3500 upgrade to included in the price of the Performance S some time today? I ask because I've been waffling on how to finish my reservation and I could swear they are priced differently now. I could just be...

Gray on Gray or Red on Silver?

Anyone have either color/wheel combo and pictures they'd like to share? I'm waffling between metallic gray on gray wheels for the "super spy" look, or red on silver for the "super hero" look. Would love to see some photos of either combo. Edit: Nevermind, found the galleries in the sticky...

Looking for advice from Roadster and Performance S owners

Hi all. Just got notice I need to make my design choices in the next month to maintain the old pricing schedule. My reservation was placed 10/19/12. I'm a current Roadster owner, and I'm waffling between keeping the Roadster and getting an entry level S, or unloading the Roadster and...

Anyone selling a carbon hard top?

    Frequent charging options

40A (on a dedicated 50A line). Only at work during the day, typically starting from a 40-50% charge. Nothing on weekends. It could sometimes go 2-3 days at times while sitting on a 65-75% charge with not even 110 to plug into.

    Model S Reservation Tally

Forgot to post earlier... I'm 12,942 on 10/19 from the Oakbrook, IL, store. Based on Omer's RSN, that's 122 US reservations in five days over a weekend.

    Frequent charging options

FWIW, I switched over to 32A at both locations and my average "full" ideal charge has gone from mid 180s (typically 184-187) to the low 190s (191-194) almost overnight and pretty routinely. Can't make any comment on impact of actual miles, or any notes I took about length of charge or outside...

    Frequent charging options

Yeah, that's a great chart: Tesla Roadster Charging Rates and Efficiency - Tom Saxton's Blog I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with a slow "top off" charge always starting from a 50-60% (or greater) charge. Those numbers seem to be from a 1/3rd charge most of the time.

    Frequent charging options

So I finally have a way to charge at both work and home. Both are 50a NEMA 14-50s that are pretty much dedicated, so I can do a full 40a if I need to. Most of the time I'll be leaving one location on a full charge (typically 185-187 ideal miles) and arriving at the other after ±40 miles of 65...

Anyone get this message: Power Train Problem Service required

I actually moved it by myself the previous night when it happened the first time. It's not an issue at all unless you're trying to start on an incline. Kind of comical, really. But I was trying to get it to storage until the PEM is replaced and got stuck. The trooper really didn't give me...

Anyone get this message: Power Train Problem Service required

I'm going through this power train issue right now, as well. Last night and today I got stuck in an intersection. Luckily, it's not real hard for one guy to push one of these. Also, I'm glad it happened in October and not January. Unfortunately, the State trooper that insisted he push me...

What did you park next to? (Or what makes the Roadster look tiny?)

LOL.... I was pulled over. I've been pulled over 5 times since Nov 2011 on the same 5 mile stretch of highway for doing between 3-6 MPH over in a 65. The convo usually goes something like this: "License and registration, please. What kind of car is this? Where did you get it? Is it...

What did you park next to? (Or what makes the Roadster look tiny?)

I cant vouch for the Lambo, but I did at least park in the closest open spot to where I was going. I'm yet to have any parking-ding paranoia with it. All the non-city owned spots here are huge to accommodate all the giant SUVs.

What did you park next to? (Or what makes the Roadster look tiny?)

Just a typical day in an Omaha, NE, suburban strip mall. Please note the Tesla did not feel the need to park in two spots like the Lambo.
