    New 7 series bimmer v Model S

We have an SL550 and a Model S. We love the Model S more, but the SL is WAY sexier. We will keep until Tesla comes up with a convertible we want. The Roadster is too small and utilitarian.

    CHAdeMO adapter wait frustration

I would buy a third party adapter in a second if it was tested and reliable. I wouldn't even bother to wait to see what Tesla was going to come out with.

That we would be a bummer. I guess I can see them not signing a roaming agreement, though.

    What Happens When You Roam?

I am driving up to Vancouver, BC for a short business trip next week. Just north of the border my phone will switch from AT&T to Rogers Wireless. Has anyone driven their S outside of their home network yet? If so, what happens with your data connection?

PC Magazine... Please Stick to Reviewing PC's not Cars

I also think that criticism is fair game and should even be welcomed. That said, PC Mag is TERRIBLE. I don't read it because I am actually afraid it will make me dumber.

Energy usage in a 60kWh vs 85 kWh Model S

LOL. I was thinking it would be nice for them to switch cars to see how the difference in weight affected consumption.

    SIRI Eyes Free

Ohmslaw, I am going to assume that you are never going to request accessories from third party suppliers because of the Model S' market share, would that be correct? Anyway, I would be concerned if the people who were working on mobile apps were the same ones working on other engineering issues...

Phone App: Additional ways to access car remotely?

Thanks Doug. I do know about Bluestacks. It is a kludge, but I can make it work I guess until something supported exists.

Phone App: Additional ways to access car remotely?

Is there anyone out there with any contacts that can comment on whether there are plans to introduce a way to access the car other than the Android and IOS apps? The ones I would personally be interested in are Windows Phone Windows Web based.

Agreed. I would happily volunteer my time.

Phone App: Android Beta Version introduced!

A web app would have been even better. The functional part of the app is clearly server based. I think mobile development is great, but this my new pet peeve. Mobile developers seem less likely to separate business logic from presentation stuff. Supporting a new platform always involves "porting".

Phone App: Android Beta Version introduced!

What I want to know is who is the product manager who said, "We don't need a Windows app, we will just make a couple of mobile apps"? The gymnastics that multiple owners are going through to make this app work on their computers was completely predictable. The omission is puzzling.

    SIRI Eyes Free

I am not very confident in Tesla providing anything that works with my Lumia 920. I believe it is a mistake, but at least I understand the rationale. What I don't get is why there is no Windows app. It is the easiest platform to develop for and would reach the most owners. If they start...

I would be disappointed if they introduced new functionality that requires owners to have a specific phone.

A few news tidbits from a visit to the Menlo Park showroom

I know you are right. I was leaning towards cheaping out because we are buying another new car as well, but it probably doesn't make sense to get the small pack.

A few news tidbits from a visit to the Menlo Park showroom

Bastards! :-) With my driving patterns it is clear that I only need the 40kwh battery. Now that I hear that the supercharging hardware is standard, I might have to upgrade myself. I am not sure I would be able to forego the extra acceleration with the smaller pack anyway.

For what is worth W8MM, I hope you change your mind. Even with the occasional in-fighting this is the best place to get information on what should be a pretty great car.

    Updated - Interior Lighting

Ridiculous? This forum has turned into a more active Fisker Buzz. When you can buy a Model S and know exactly what car you will get the need for transparency will vanish. The level of communication from Tesla is not benevolence, it is a business requirement. The talk of people cancelling or...

    Updated - Interior Lighting

I do agree that the expecations were set up by Tesla, and they have more often than not delivered on that. I just don't see this strategy in itself as a virtue. It is a business decision (that I agree with) to have early stakeholders help them deliver the Model S. The communications lately...

    Updated - Interior Lighting

Tesla might communicate more than other companies, but I think that is because they are making it up as they go. We pre-0rdered a Mercedes Clk before they were released. We were on the list 18 months before getting the car and got little communication before that but it didn't matter because at...

    Get Amped Tour: Seattle, 7/6 - 7/8

I also did my test drive in Seattle today. A couple of observations: The Model S displaces the Porsche Cayenne as the best handling large vehicle I have ever driven. If you have driven a Porsche with PDK you will have an easy time adjusting the regenerative breaking. They aren't the same, but...

Opportunity Console - New Photos, Poll

I see what you are saying, smorgasbord. If I were being really honest, I would say that what really irks me is the new design guru mentality that has taken over in consumer products. Apple created a new approach to UI and became enormously successful. Now everyone can say, "See you didn't think...

Opportunity Console - New Photos, Poll

As a consumer, why should I care about the intention of the design? Especially when this design impacts usability. In my training as a software developer and architect, I was taught that valuing design considerations over usability was folly. I am surprised by the number of people in this...

Will Android eventually run in Tesla?

There are no credible stats anywhere that show that open source is more secure than closed source. It is one of those things that sound obvious, but is not true at all.

Opportunity Console - New Photos, Poll

Bonnie, I guess I am puzzled. I do not know what I am "reading into", I am quite literal by nature. My message was not a response to your post, nor was it commentary on the people who do the like the interior. My point was that the Opportunity gave Tesla a chance to make a different segment of...

Opportunity Console - New Photos, Poll

I guess I will stop posting to this thread to save my enthusiasm for the car. For me and I assume a lot of others, the interior of the car is just going to have to be a giant sized compromise. Fortunately most of us have more than one vehicle. It appears Tesla has made enough of the faithful...

I sincerely hope that the option shown for the front is just one of several prototypes available. It seems as if someone is trying to prove to me that I don't need what I want.

    Wheel Bolt Pattern?

Has anyone been able to get any information about this? We have an extra set of 20 in wheels and tires that we have for our Sl500. I seem to remember someone saying that Tesla might use the same pattern. I would love to be able to swap back and forth between these and the stock 19's.

I know that they won't do it, but if they wrote a WinRT app, it would work with Windows Phone as well as millions of Windows 8 PC's in the next year.

    Is Tech Package worth getting?

I am not terribly price conscious but for me the tech package just does not provide enough value. The turn by turn nav is not important to me. I rarely need directions for the places I travel in the Seattle area or in my occasional trips to Portland or Vancouver BC. In the few times that I do...

    SW/Firmware: Model S Apps

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a no-brainer for the software engineers to get the system delivered first. The SDK is secondary in importance. The software manager in me just instinctively hears this statement as PR only. There is little best practice experience to suggest testing that long...

    Anti-Tesla Gibberish

We see a version of this in many product fans. Go to any tech blog and look at how many people actively try to dissuade people from buying products from Microsoft, or Apple, or Google. Often it is clear that they have little information about the product they are denigrating. It is an...

    SW/Firmware: Model S Apps

That timing to me suggests that they are building out the SDK after the release of the car. I know of no commercial software releases that are in stabilization mode for a year.

Where does the S fit in the world of luxury sedans?

My wife and I just sat in the beta in the Bellevue showroom last weekend. We usually drive luxury sedans and sport coupes. Currently havea Porsche Cayenne S and and Mercedes SL500. The inside of a Model S does not feel like one of those. It reminded me a lot of the Buicks we sometimes get when...
