    FSD discussion

My understanding is that FSD has always been on its own branch and those firmware releases have only gone out to cars that have paid for FSD.

    FSD discussion

Of the 19,322 cars on TeslaFi, over 83% have FSD. Certainly that is not representative of the entire population, probably just because FSD users are more likely to be the kind of nerds like me that like to dig into their data, but it was still higher than I expected.

    FSD discussion

Looks like I made top ten and this is only for the last year since that’s when these stats became available in the api. Since FSD replaces the standard autopilot stack, these are all FSD miles. Can you tell I like it?

No doubt it’s expensive. The shuttle is an example of money is no object (almost). There are actually five computers, four of which participate in voting. The fifth computer uses different software and is activated manually if all else fails. Voting conflicts are displayed to the crew and they...

For safety critical systems like this, reliability is gained through redundancy of the components, cross connected such that multiple simultaneous failures are needed to cause the entire system to fail. For brakes, this means multiple sensors on the pedal, multiple controllers performing the...

If I’m Tesla, I’d rather take the short term stock price hit than divulge off of this information to have it used against me when deviations inevitably happen. As an investor with a multi year horizon, I say “carry on!”

I bought my first shares at $345 right before the tweet. I was sad that I wouldn’t be able to stay invested in tesla, but it was clear to me that it wasn’t a done deal yet, so I held on. Still holding. These guys are obviously smarter than I.

It’s usually not the logic and reasoning that causes the problem, it’s the underlying assumptions that the logic is based on that people have trouble with. Continuously question your assumptions. Know the difference between what you know and what you don’t know.

FSD took me to Lathrop today, so I thought I would take some pictures. Lots of activity, but I didn’t see any actual mega packs because the fence was masked and most activity was in the building or the tent. I estimated about 300 employee cars in the parking lot. Security was tight.

In my personal experience, here’s how FSD behaves around actual children. WARNING: boring. Note that FSD not only acts on what it sees directly in front of it, it’s watching all the kids off camera to the right to determine whether they are likely to enter the intersection and it gives them...

Some of the turns were so tight that it briefly came to a stop to check visibility and in a few cases, put the turn signal on :) The disengagement at 26:50 is one of a couple of accidental disengagements due to holding the wheel a bit too tightly. See the video description for the list.

I agree. I’ve put about 10,000 miles on my car since I got FSD last November and most of it has been with FSD enabled. I’ve covered 7 western states while avoiding interstates where possible, and lots of small towns. FSD has definitely gotten progressively better, with better speed control for...

Tesla uses an automotive radar from Continental (ARS4-B) which draws about 4W max. The radar unit also does most of the signal processing and outputs target data (azimuth angle, attitude angle, and range) over CAN. Ive used a very similar radar on a test vehicle that also had cameras. Raw...
