HVAC Control - for those over 50

In San Diego, where the outside temperature is often 68-72. The whole point is that I don't need the temperature to be exactly 70 degrees. I'm happy with 68-72, but there is no way I can get that range without constantly changing the settings.

HVAC Control - for those over 50

30 years ago, most houses had a thermostat with two settings: How LOW the room temperature will go before the HEATER kicks on. How HIGH the room temperature will go before the A/C kicks on. Yes, you set a temperature range. There were two slider adjustments to limit "how warm" and "how cool"...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

My 2020 M3 full-charge is 303 miles indicated after charging 100% (65ºF). I have only 4,000 miles on the car. First time I've only charged it 100% once since I bought it. That's a 10% loss compared to the claim. Additionally, I noticed that the my new M3 gets worse mileage than the old M3...

Scheduled Charging - Start Yes, Stop No

Let me answer your question, and correct your assumptions... YES. My (super)-off-peak is only 6 hours, not 7. Midnight to 6am @ 10¢/kWh. After that, it goes to off-peak @ 24¢ and then peak at 55¢. Not all power companies deliver 240V. Some areas (mine) only have 208V supply. Hence 208v...

    Tesla vs Gravity

    Tesla vs Gravity

My model 3 has a 75kWh battery and weights 2000 kg. Theoretical limit: If I did the math right, the car could potentially climb to 44,000 feet on a battery charge. (that's ignore traction and large heat losses). Conversely, if you descended from 44,000 feet, you could fully re-generate a...

Car won't unlock until I handle my iPhone

Your tip about checking the background Battery Usage was a good idea. Mine shows 16m screen and 23m backgd. As for the BlueTooth as a location device... I don't agree: IMHO, BlueTooth is not a location device, anymore than a train horn is. If a train blasts its horn and you hear it, then...

Where did you get the idea I was worried about Bluetooth power consumption? To the contrary, I said I wish there was a device or setting that would leave it on longer (not turn it off so fast). So the how would you explain why, 100% of the time, I have to pull my iPhone out of my pocket (grocery bags in both hands) and tap to wake to get my Model 3 to see my phone? Do you think perhaps, the BlueTooth LE does not transmit what Tesla requires? Does BT LE transmit, receive, or both?

I’m guessing that the people who think it works well with an iPhone, are the people who have Air-buds or a Apple Watch⌚️. Because both of those things probably keep your iPhone Bluetooth active even when it’s in your pocket. I wish there were a setting or an app or some other way to get my...

Wanted, 40A 14-50 home charger @ reasonable price

Seems a bit odd that the Corded Mobile Connecter is almost twice the price of the Universal. 32 vs 40 amps doesn't double the cost to build it. And removing the "universal" should lower the price. I would think that the two chargers would be about the same price. At $275, I'd buy the corded...

Yeah, probably time to confront the P.U.C. about SDG&E. (San Diego) 22 cents per kWh at midnight San Diego is more than ridiculous. Electricity is easy to ship from city to city with very little loss. Even worse, in San Diego county, there is a Power Plant on the beach in Carlsbad, but the...

    Service panel upgrade

I live in a condo with a 100A panel. Condo is wired for both Gas and Electric range. Since I have a gas range, there was 40A/240V unused. I had an electrician disconnect the 40A range circuit, and add the 50A breaker for 14-50 charging.

Is the Charging port DC or AC?

Nice summary. Thanks. That leads me to a follow-on question about the UMC. I was previously thinking that the UMC was an AC-to-DC converter because it seems to get fairly warm when in use. After reading the above, my guess is that it may not be. I'm curious about exactly what the UMC does...

Does anyone charge from a regular wall outlet?

The extension cord is (truly) 12 gauge, so there are no safety issues. But that does bring up a good point... Some extension cord are not what they advertise. Buy a known brand or at least from a known store (like Home Depot or Lowes, Ace, etc). Beware of imports for mail-order stores (even...

Wall meter to measure power usage?

I charged my car with a meter attached. For my Model 3, it took 18 kWh from the house to add 55 miles of range to the battery. So roughly, 3 miles of battery range requires 1 kWh. Note: For those who sometimes skim too quickly (I'm guilty of that too), this is the ratio for putting charge...

Does anyone charge from a regular wall outlet?

Check your electricity bill. Pay attention to plans with Tiers, Baselines, and TOU (Time of use). The problem with 120V is that your longer charging time makes it harder to avoid the "peak" rates. Peak rates can be 3X more expensive than Off-Peak rates.
