There's something on Tesla's end that causes the "Energy" notifications option to show up. For a long time after I had my Powerwalls installed, I only had the "Vehicle" option. I was going to call them about it, but then randomly one day the...
I had a power outage 2 days ago on Tuesday and I got both app notifications (when power went down, and when it came back up). I'm also on iOS 13.4.1, Tesla app version 3.10.5, and 3x Powerwalls on version 1.46.0.
I was surprised because this was actually the first time the notifications worked...
Is anyone else having issues with their Tesla app where it can’t refresh and gives the “no recent data available” error at the bottom? This started yesterday for me.
I can connect to the Powerwall gateway directly in a browser and everything looks good. It’s just the Tesla app having issues.
I know this one!!
I had the same squeaking and had a mobile service tech come out to fix it. He showed me exactly what it was and said it was not uncommon. If the bolts that attach the second row seats to the floor of the car aren’t perfectly centered, they rub against the edge of the screw...
The app tells you when one of the powerwall breakers is tripped. I had a bad breaker on one of my powerwalls a few months ago that kept tripping. The other two powerwalls worked fine (charging and discharging), while the third was disconnected. Here’s what it looked like in the app:
I would recommend just adding the additional panels now to save yourself the headache later. I have almost the exact specs of your system (5.04 kW solar, 3 PW) and I wish I would have gotten more panels. Like you, I thought about getting a bigger sized system but I opted not to. Don't make...
Tesla did the same with my system, except I also backed up my HPWC breaker. I too was alarmed when they put the load center on a 125 amp breaker even though my main panel is 200 amp. I haven’t had any issues either.
• Make sure the “Power Flow” screen in the app is correct. I toggled on/off big things like A/C, oven, dryer to verify. Incorrectly installed CT clamps are not uncommon.
• Simulate an outage and verify the powerwalls are working as expected. Wait a few minutes to make sure your solar turns...
There should be a page that compares the rate plans and gives you a price estimate at the bottom. I don’t know the details for EV2-A vs TOUA. I think it depends on your usage since the pricing might change if you go over the baseline usage with TOUA. I would recommend looking into EV2-A.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Today I was surprised I even got higher than 3kW. These past couple months have usually been in the 2kW range.
Like Sylvia said, it could also be due to the angle of your roof. My roof faces almost perfectly south. Google Sun Roof has it as the brightest...
I’m also in the SF Bay Area (South Bay). Production in the winter is pretty crappy. Here’s my production from today to compare. I have a 5.08 kW system and the highest output I hit today was 3.7 kW at 11:55am.
It’ll get better once winter passes.
This issue comes and goes with firmware updates. It’s happened to me at least 2-3 times. Every time, the issue fixes itself after the next firmware update. I wouldn’t sweat it.
I remember reading about someone whose fob was misbehaving and kept sending out the open charge port command. Maybe try moving your key fobs out of range and/or taking out their batteries to see if that fixes it.
Yep, I’d be down for that! Let me know what the SC says. You can have the orange tinted glass since that was the way yours originally came. Mine originally came with the tinted glass.
I’m in the South Bay, close to the Santa Clara SC, but either one is fine. Burlingame is a short drive away.
Holy *sugar*, I have this too. Except I have the opposite. My orange tinted glass is over the driver’s side FWD. I had that side replaced shortly after getting my car and they must have still had the old orange tinted glass as replacement parts.
I am also in the SF Bay Area.
Maybe we can...
Elon tweeted that the integration between powerwalls and cars would be coming to prevent that sort of case from happening (charging your car when the grid is down and draining your powerwalls). I can’t find the tweet, but I remember it was a reply to DÆrik.
They did the exact same thing for my install. I got a whole home backup where they moved all the loads from my 200A main panel to the backup load center, and ran a 125A breaker back to the main panel.
I also thought the same thing, where it’s odd going from 200A to a 125A breaker, but I haven’t...
Thanks all. I will take a look inside the breaker box and see. Before I do this though, how do you fully shut off the power with powerwalls+solar installed? Is there a proper shut down sequence documented somewhere?
Before getting the powerwalls, it was an easy flip of my main breaker and I...
My powerwalls were installed in April and everything was great until a couple of weeks ago. The breaker to one of the powerwalls (I have 3 total) started tripping when the powerwall is:
1) charging
AND
2) at about 97%+ capacity
This one breaker only trips during this scenario. Charging...
I wonder if it’s possibly your home WiFi? When I was using Asus routers, I had horrible issues with all of my network devices. My Nest thermostat would constantly drop connection and never recover, my printer would print half of the pages in the job and just stop, my IoT light switches would...
I’ve had this happen a couple times in the ~4 months I’ve had my powerwalls. It usually fixes itself within an hour or so. I’m pretty sure one time was due to firmware being updated.
There shouldn’t be any difference in performance or output when stacked vs separate. That is just how you choose to mount them. In fact, some people even do both (e.g. 2 stacks of 2 powerwalls along a wall.)
Having a separate shut-off and critical load center for each powerwall seems weird...
Yep, in California (PG&E, EV-A) peak price is almost 4x the price of off-peak. By exporting all solar production during peak, you get plenty of credits to cover grid usage during off-peak and even partial-peak.
Same thing just happened to me last night from 12am - 8am. My powerwalls discharged during off-peak. If I had my been charging my car, I think I would have drained my walls completely. I’m on firmware 1.37.1.
You can't directly export from Powerwall --> Grid, but the time-based-control setting lets you effectively do something similar.
During off-peak and partial-peak (if needed), your powerwalls will get charged from solar while powering your home from the grid.
During peak, your home gets fully...
Did your solar turn back on during the outage test? It should turn back on after a few minutes and power your home + charge your powerwalls. I have read posts from people whose solar wasn’t coming back on during outages.
I’m just going to wait and see how this all plays out. Hopefully their non-replacement solution is decent enough. No way I’m paying $1300+ for a new screen. (I was already worried about having to take apart the dash... there was a post about someone’s dash rattling after their screen...
Sounds like it "sun bleaches" the yellowing material? Interesting solution. I hope it works out since the screen in my X has the dreaded yellow borders.
Yes, I got 3 powerwalls and can’t imagine anything less. My sales guy was recommending 2 but I’m glad I pushed for 3.
My home is pretty efficient, we barely run the a/c, and I still feel like my powerwalls drain pretty quickly. Also remember that each Powerwall can only sustain 5kW output...
I'm guessing this is how they were able to cut their solar prices. Sorry, I don't know too much about Hanwha vs Panasonic. From the pictures I see online, they look exactly like my Pansonic panels. This site has some info about the differences between panels: Best Solar Panels in 2019: The...
I really like the all black panels especially with the angled edging that Tesla adds around the borders. All of my panels are laid out in a perfect rectangle, kind of like what you see on the Tesla.com energy webpage. They are much nicer looking than my neighbors panels where you can see the...
I can't find the system document right now, but iirc they are the 315 W all black panels from Panasonic and a Delta inverter. I had a choice for the more efficient panels, but chose the all black ones for aesthetics. I got my solar system last year, before the recent price reduction. My...
I am in the SF Bay Area (south bay) and I just went with Tesla for my solar + powerwalls. I have no complaints and am very happy with the whole process and how both projects turned out.
I was wondering though... If you do NOT buy solar + powerwalls through Tesla, can you still see the...
You should be able to see your solar production and home energy usage in the app. Like you, I just had Tesla solar and my car in the app (before getting powerwalls). I could see the solar production and home energy usage in the app when sliding right from my car. After adding powerwalls, I...
I can understand OP’s situation with the contract. They don’t actually send it until their design team specs out the extra work that needs to be done. It took a couple of weeks for them to send me my contract after I gave the green light to proceed with the powerwalls.
OP, did you check with...
Could you please post a screenshot of the notification screen in the app that shows the vehicle and energy section? I think I'm in the same boat as you were. I only see vehicle notifications in my app and have not yet seen any powerwall notifications, even when the installers did a few...
