Ownership Experience for somebody who's never driven one

I have an LR RWD version that has for me proven to be a real pleasure to drive. There are so many things I like about the car, but mostly... it just works really well. Before I got mine last year, I was really skeptical with a slight lean towards being worried about the decision I made before...

    M3 SR+ Delivered!

I go to Montreal one or twice a month on average(about an hour.5 away), and on my last two trips, I stopped counting at 6 Model 3's going the other way. I usually fill at the Dix/30, and I rarely see less then 4 other cars using the super charger there. About the same for Quebec City(Levis).

Here's the million dollar question: where's the promised 35k

I asked the question because you would have to be the odd man out complaining that he got more then he paid for. I don't think it is any secret, Tesla would obviously prefer to sell nothing but fully loaded Performance models. But the model 3 was supposed to offer a decent EV at a reasonable...

Here's the million dollar question: where's the promised 35k

OP, your posts make absolutely no sense. If I didn't know any better, I would say you are just trolling to make waves. Are you sure your real reason isn't to try and sway people from buying an electric car? I wonder how many people in the ICE world complain when the manufacturer adds upgrades...

Is a Model 3 for me?

In terms of charging, alternatively you might also check if it is possible to charge at work. I used a 110V plug for the first 6 months of ownership with no problems doing about 50 miles/day round trip. You can add around 50 mile of range if your car sits plugged in for 8 hrs while your at work.

    Is autopilot worth it?

Like you, I declined at configuring. After getting the car last summer, I tried the trial version while taking a long road trip across the US. I bought FSD with the promotion that just ended. The version I trialed did not have NAV on AP, so that is a nice touch, although I use and think of it...

SR+ Delivery with Scratch | Tesla would not fix | Poll Q

Actually not true. I was able to reach someone in customer support in California, and I live in Canada. I will admit that I had to be persistent likely because it was end of Quarter, but I was able to resolve my issue. Considering your long standing history with Tesla, I find it hard to believe...

SR+ Delivery with Scratch | Tesla would not fix | Poll Q

Would you have taken delivery AS IS with no fix from Tesla given I don't need another car? NO WAY, even if it was my only car!!! The only thing I would have done differently is to make sure that Tesla management at HQ gets the full story. The only thing I wish the OP would consider is to help...

2018 EAP people, should we buy FSD for $2000 before next Monday?

2018 EAP people, should we buy FSD for $2000 before next Monday?

Regarding your inquiries about the FSD. I have found two instances where it is stated that customers who pre-purchase the FSD features before it is released will be able to receive the hardware upgrade at no cost. Here is a link to a tweet directly from Elon stating this. Elon Musk on Twitter...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I get the frustration, but it is another end of quarter period which = off the map crazy number of deliveries. Being from Montreal, I know that the cars are sent in large batches. It is probably safe to say that you will be in the next batch for your area. Good luck on whatever you decide.

2018 EAP people, should we buy FSD for $2000 before next Monday?

Update for anyone interested. Just got off the phone with Tesla vehicle support regarding FSD. I was given email confirmation following my call that HW3 will be included free of charge (FOC) for all Model 3's with preordered FSD. I was also told that the price change will happen as of midnight...

SR/SR+ (Model 3 RWD) Waiting Room

If you are following the news, especially investment news, you will no doubt be bombarded with lots of negatives. And while Tesla is not without its problems, most of the negatives IMO are more about selling the drama. I can't speak directly to anything South of the boarder, but it does appear...

Tesla told me to cancel bank transaction?

Fair enough and I agree, but since he hasn't actually received the thing he paid for as a pre-order, it wouldn't be unreasonable for Tesla to take that into consideration either.

Ordered this morning, delivery for Wednesday. How late would you accept a 2018 model?

And apparently the same people are dumb enough to accept a performance upgrade for free a year later.

Standard Range Model 3 Now Available for $35,000

I disagree. Look at all the blowback from traditional dealerships that Tesla has to wade through. How much are they spending in legal fees just to be able to say that they can open up shops in all states? In the long run, it might be better to just stop swimming against the current, close most...

Standard Range Model 3 Now Available for $35,000

I had the same experience. In fact, I was warned in advance by the Tesla rep helping me to just sell it myself, as I will be able to work out a better deal. He also told me that Tesla will just push my used car to guys that, as you said, move them at auction. I got the impression that they...

Standard Range Model 3 Now Available for $35,000

A big thank you to Tesla! In the spirit of where this thread seems to occasionally drift from time to time, I was one of the first to take delivery in Canada. Yes I paid a little more then what I would pay now, but then I was also able to enjoy the car for nine months, and I received the full...

Standard Range Model 3 Now Available for $35,000

I gave your post a like, so now I have to literally type out that I though it was also very funny. Reading this thread to its end, which is now on page 7, I think the message he is sending is not so much his interest in Tesla, but why others shouldn't be. Seems to me that there is a word one can...

Help me time my M3 purchase.

My suggestion would be to start communicating your interests with a delivery specialist and see what they say. They should be able to give you a good idea on how to best meet your needs so you can stop lurking and just get in the car. Good luck!

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@Big Earl, my point was as per your first quote. Even though the battery is fully charged, I would have expected that battery heating would start so that full propulsion power is kept available. I wasn't thinking that battery heating would continue the entire time the car is plugged in. But I...
  23. evJOULE

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

I agree and think that the small increase in range that we see during battery heating is more likely the result of the battery warming up as opposed to energy being added (as in car is plugged in, but scheduled charge time is set to start at a later time).
  24. evJOULE

    Battery Replacement

Another way to look at it is that Tesla tries to give its customers great service. They are not waiting for a failure, they are informing you that they are going to replace a major piece of equipment proactively as a warranty item. I am not so sure you would be able to say the same for most...
  25. evJOULE

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

There are some technical descriptions of the Model 3 that explain how its motor can draw current to generate heat without applying torque to the drive wheels. So in other words, while the car is parked and I am assuming plugged in. Doing away with a dedicated battery heater like in the S and X...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@RavenM3 I agree, I would prefer to have regen available, but it is not a really big deal, and especially not in place of battery life. And you are right, preheating the cabin before departure is the way to do it especially when the car is plugged in, but my efforts here were really to see if I...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@Big Earl I think you misunderstood me. I was comparing your test to my experience. In other words, based on what you are showing, I wouldn't expect that you would ever arrive to your car and see cold battery status icons while it is plugged in, even when your scheduled charge time is delayed...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@Big Earl, do you know the software version of your car at the time you did the test? It appears at first glance that our cars are operating very differently. After taking a closer look at the photos you posted, it would seem impossible for you to arrive at your car in the morning with cold...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@derotam, yes the dots were also visible under the green battery icon. Thanks for pointing that out, I should have mentioned it the first time around. After several weeks of very cold weather, I have given up trying to find any indication that the car is somehow heating the battery. And I am...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@Big Earl, how sure are you that the Model 3 heats the battery to meet requirements for charging and full propulsion when it needs to? As you know, I am very interested in this topic and tried very hard to get the facts straight as Tesla's printed information in this area is lacking to say the...

Beautiful shot. Makes me think of Chris Isaak. It would be even nicer if one of the S3XY line-up could be seen there. Actually you can get all the way to Acapulco via Tesla SC. Anyone here that has gone south of Laredo or McAllen TX?

    2019 Model 3's?

I think I get your concern, but I am not sure this is what you are looking for. Just do a google for "Bloomberg Model 3 tracker". Tesla has registered more than 50K VIN's with the NHTSA since the first of the year (2019).

Tesla Super Chargers south of the border.

Anyone in Brazil have information on the situation for Tesla in Mexico? Any contacts? There are already 12 SuperChargers in Mexico, but we never have any news from anyone there. I am sure a lot of people in USA/Canada would like to get an update on the situation down there, and possibly even...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

I parked my car outside unplugged this morning (08:10am) in -20C weather. When I returned at 14:30pm, the temp had warmed up to -8C. Same blue icon cold battery status as before, but with no regen available. Sat in car for 10 minutes with car turned on and cabin heat off. Nothing, nada, ziltcho...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

Back to you @Big Earl, I just noticed today that using the cabin heat does cause intermittent power consumption on the touchscreen exactly in the same way that I had previously observed. Now you have me second guessing myself and I can't be sure. I did turn cabin heating off as a check, but...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@Big Earl, in this case I did as you said to confirm whether there could be anything else causing the energy consumption while the car was in "HOLD". The other point I noticed was that it would only last for about 10 seconds at a time with probably a 15 to 20 second pause in-between. This...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

Certainly as you draw current from the battery while driving, you are generating heat which definitely warms the battery if it is in a cold state. From my own experience, I believe that this is what is being referred to in the owners manual as a recommendation to warm a cold battery (blue bar...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

Just to update, I think I have confirmed that the message "HEATING" with the single heat wave icon probably has nothing to do with battery heating. It looks like this is the message received when the defrost function has finished. With the battery warm from a long drive, I received the 'HEATING"...

    V9 Cold weather update.

With the car left outside and unplugged for about 5 hours in -8C weather, the car had no regen available for about 10 minutes of city driving. Regen started to appear just under 20 km/hr after about 10 minutes.

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

Good point @AlanSubie4Life, more to my point though, I was meaning more the Tesla. These cars are monitoring things with some frequency as has already been pointed out, Tesla says that a 1% drain/day is normal. I completely agree with you, that does seem like a lot. I especially agree with your...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

Yeah that does sound like it might be a software thing. in my case, the "Limited Charging" message with yellow flashing light remained while the battery warmed up and charged. It wasn't until the battery warmed up enough to accept the full amp charge that the message went away and the charge...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

Unlike you, I really like to use regen. I really liked the recent update with improvements in regen, but wish Tesla would update to allow full one-pedal driving. So my interest here was to ask if anyone was able to get the battery heating thingy to work, because I can't seem to, or at least I...

Preheating battery in cold weather use.

@ggnykk, thanks for the video tip. I have seen this before, but it is not something I would do myself or recommend anyone else to either. If you consider the extent that the BMS regulates charge rate and temperature of the battery, it seems to me that causing high rates of discharge when the...

    V9 Cold weather update.

So you only get a blue bar at like -10C? If you activate battery heating at that temp, how long does it take before the blue bar status is removed? And at what temp will the Model S start taking a charge?
