    Update on Service Issues

FWIW, I have a (non-Tesla) car with frameless windows, and I do not have any problem with water getting in. I go through a high-powered brushless car wash a couple times a week, without issue.

GOP tax reform bill would end the $7500 EV tax credit (and other tax related grousing and grumbling)

Look on the bright side... Based on the current production ramp-up, by the time the Model 3 is delivering at scale, there could be a Democrat back in the White House and the EV credit could be back. ;)

Burned by Tesla on idle fees. Something to know

Oh I'm sure that a few have... but unfortunately I am skeptical that it will become widespread any time in the foreseeable future.

Burned by Tesla on idle fees. Something to know

What could they do? They can't do anything, except perhaps push for legislation so that ICE cars could be ticketed... Good luck with that.

Which means... few to no (non-employee) Model 3s... where it will hurt the most. And if you want it on an S or X, you'd better get moving.

    License Plate

This. Maybe look up the cost of the fine in your state, but to me it's worth the (low) risk of a ~$70 ticket. They're legally required here, but it is extremely common to see luxury/sports cars going without. When I got my first BMW, the dealer asked me whether I wanted them to mount the...

Tesla sends out delivery delay emails

I'm guessing the thought process was to give people a heads up that the windows would be pushing out rather than letting them log in and be surprised by it, without any warning or explanation. That said, the email could have been clearer about when the site will be updated...

Tesla sends out delivery delay emails

Yep, got the email. Cannot login - it just reloads the page when I click "Sign In." I've already bailed, in any case... bought a 440 a couple weeks back. But for the moment, I'm hanging on to the reservation just because.

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

Funny you mention this - a coworker was just telling me about this for BMW last week. He is already planning a trip to do this with his next BMW in the spring. I have only heard details of the BMW offering, but I assume Audi's is roughly the same. In the case of a BMW, BMW still ships the car...

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

The S5 Sportback is what I really want. But although theoretically they're about the same price as the S4, in reality they are in short supply, the ones that are to be found are highly optioned, and the dealers aren't negotiating much on them... resulting in the S4 being available for...

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

Every day I go back and forth. It's likely to come down to where I can get the better deal on a car that I want. I've had a truly flawless experience over all with my 335, which makes me want to stay with what I know and have enjoyed. On the other hand, I (like granger) drove the new 2018 S4...

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I will probably be cancelling my reservation. 1) I have major concerns about some core controls only being accessible on a touchscreen. Sure, it looks cool, but it doesn't make functional sense and IMO isn't safe. I can do everything in my car without taking my eyes...

NO mechanical handle for rear doors. Seriously?

Ha. It depends on the age and maturity of the kid, as far as which you want... Although, personally, I have never used child locks. And at this point, I fully trust my 7yo (girl, I should add) to not open the door when she shouldn't.

    Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

FYI, found this article comparing Apple CarPlay with Android Auto. Android Auto does look even better... You can't beat Google Now (not to mention Waze!). I seriously may switch phones if I end up in a car that supports it, although I've enjoyed my iPhone very much. Android Auto vs. Apple...

Is there no way to to change the text reading in settings somewhere? That does sound annoying. CarPlay supports Spotify. Agree about Apple Maps. With an iPhone I want CarPlay for its support for Google Music and texts. As I mentioned above, if I were to get a car with CarPlay/Android Auto I...

Fair enough - I should have said ACC. Costco Insurance "Ameriprise" has the best rate for MS

Apparently Liberty Mutual "specializes" in Teslas. I have no firsthand experience with their coverage, but I did call for a quote a while back (when I was considering an S) and found them reasonable. The agent did say they are focusing in on Tesla as a specialty.

    AWD Performance Model 3

I drove a very nicely appointed S3, really enjoyed it, then immediately after made the mistake of taking out an S5 Sportback (not realizing what the sticker was on it - $69k) and that kind of blew the S3 away, which spoiled it for me... A couple days later I drove an S4 and loved it. In...

Yep.... I've been cross-shopping the 340 v. 440 v. M3 v. Audi S4 v. Audi S3... all vs my theoretical Model 3. I regretfully had to rule out the M3 cuz I just can't afford it in a 2017 model year or newer. Plus... it's probably just not practical as a daily driver.

    AWD Performance Model 3

Technically, the RWD 340i does 60 in more like 4.7 seconds... That is according to BMW, which is conservative. Enthusiast mags have it down more like 4.2-4.4. Typically the AWD version does it about 1/10 second faster than the RWD version.

I'm in ongoing conversations with BMW, Audi, and Alfa Romeo salesmen, and all of them have taken it in stride that I have a Model 3 reservation I'll probably be purchasing. I completely agree that no car can be death-proof. But this seems like a basic safety functionality that wouldn't be difficult to include yet is absent. It also doesn't help my mindset that I just read this article this morning... Tesla owner asks for $1 million after Model X caught on...

There is also fire. My seven-year-old can open a car door, but she definitely couldn't break a car window to escape, even if a glass breaker were there. Nor could many elderly people. I don't understand this decision and as a parent do find it troubling. :-/ Yes, there is the 2-door coupe...
